What is the difference between crestor and zocor

Common Questions and Answers about What is the difference between crestor and zocor

crestor

Avatar n tn You need to speak with your doctor for clarification. Zocor and Crestor are both used to reduce LDL cholesterol and triglycercides not raise HDL levels. Also ask your doctor for an A1c [hemoglobin A1c] test to see how well you are controlling your glucose levels and whether your lifestyle has made you a candidate for diabetes.
Avatar n tn Within the first 6 months I started to have palps and my legs continued to get weaker and I got slower and slower. I quit the Lipitor and the Dr. now put me on Crestor and the palps are severe. I get very little sleep they are so severe and I have to get up and walk around. Now all kinds of heart tests! These station in just my opinion cause a much issues as they solve. Getting desperate as well for answers.
Avatar n tn Londres is certainly correct that there are a few other options available to treat what could be assumed to be familial hypercholesterolaemia, even though your doctor has obviously tried those that would be most obvious. Generally, if you experience muscle weakness as a side effect of Lipitor (atorvastatin), other statins will produce similar effects, so that eliminates the use of Zocor (simvastatin), Crestor (rosuvastatin) etc.
Avatar n tn I am diabetic since 6 years, two years back i discovered that my Lipo is high( cholestrol 290, LDL and HDL),i start taking Crestor and after that i discovered that my CPK level is 600. i stoped it for two months and went down to 450 , due being Hypolipid i couldn't control cholestrol by exercise or food so i changed three doctors and each gave me a different Statins and the CPK now reaches 1375 . , i tried Ezytrol for a while but it's effect was very low .
Avatar n tn My understanding is that the statins with the greatest LDL reducing effect are Crestor, Lipitor, Zocor, and Pravachol, in that order. I don’t mention Leschol and Mevacor since they appear to be rarely used since recently due to the aforementioned being more powerful. Do we have any available solid data on the effects of the various individual statins other than LDL reduction? For example, do we know which ones raise HDL the most? What about effects on particle size or Lp(a), etc.
Avatar n tn Pulse pressure is the difference in blood pressure between the systolic blood pressure and the diastolic blood pressure. Pulse pressure in healthy adults in a sitting position is about 40 mmHg. Your have a wide pulse pressure of 93mmHg.
Avatar f tn I had to look twice at the date on your post to be sure. Crestor is not new, it's been out for almost 7 years. It's called the "gorilla statin" because it is much more effective than the lighter statins like lipitor and zocor. As such, it does have higher incidence of side effects. Check with your doc about any muscle soreness when on a statin, there is a blood check to see if it's anything to worry about.
Avatar f tn I hear this quite often. Next tie you speak to your doctor ask about Zocor. There is a generic called simvastatin and it is very cheap yet very effective. Also, the additional med that your doctor was talking about is most likely a fenofibrate like Tricor which is commonly added to a statin med. I am on both and they have worked very well for me with no side effects.
Avatar f tn I have been trying to google this and find out what I can in the difference between these 2 areas as far as where lesions present in different areas. So far I have only become more confused. Thank you in advance.
315318 tn?1353251800 has anybody else been prescribed these medicines together and what was their experience. On the internet, there are articles which show strong interaction between these two types of lipid lowering drugs. My second question is, in the absence of fenofibrates what other alternative medicines can be taken ? Fish oil like Lovaza is out because that acts as a mild blood thinner. I am prone to serious nose bleeding because of Efient and aspirin.

Avatar n tn Yes, the prophylactic administration of isoniazid (INH) for a TB chest conversion may cause inflammation of the liver, but does so in a minority of individuals taking the medicine. However, there is also the risk of liver inflammation due to the medicine Crestor® (rosuvastatin) and it is conceivable that there could be an additive effect of Crestor® (rosuvastatin) and INH. In addition, niacin may increase the risk of muscle disease called myopathy when used with Crestor® (rosuvastatin).
Avatar n tn Yes, indeed! After 7 years of therapy taking Crestor and Tricor (fenofibrate), I, too, started experiencing intense pain in my legs, feet, back, and arms. My Dr. took me off Crestor last month but the pain returned within a few days, although not as intense as it was prior to my stopping Crestor. I took myself off fenofibrate just a couple of days ago and "Wow" what a difference! I can actually sleep at night and notice that the pain is dissipating more and more each day.
Avatar f tn My husband could barely walk due to leg pain, could not exercise due to muscle weakness, and now this is gone. So, I did my own research and was shocked to learn about statins and all the problems they cause. Our doctors have approved of us stopping these, so we did the right thing. I want to thank everyone for their help and great advice, especially for my husband, he has gotten his life back. Thanks to all!
Avatar f tn t read anything that says the Zocor was responsible, just conjecture that it may be based on some Internet research. Zocor which is merely simvastatin is very safe and the incidence of side effects very low, but some will be affected differently than others.
Avatar n tn Recent studies have shown no reductions in death in people over the age of 65 or people with no existing heart disease on statins (regardless of how much their cholesterol was lowered) and no benefit at all in women of any age. It is very important to understand statistics here and the difference between relative risk and absolute risk reduction. Much of the advertising with statins describe a 36% risk reduction in heart attacks. This is a relative risk reduction.
Avatar n tn Fat-soluble statins like Lipitor and Zocor cause more damage than water soluble statins like Pravachol and Crestor. Hence the latter should be tried at lower dose. Possibility of hypothyroidism and diabetes should be ruled out as the presence of either disease can complicate the muscle pain. Please discuss these points with your treating physician. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted.

Avatar f tn My best way to describe the baby movement (early movement) have you ever felt a gold fish swim in a bag of water?!?! That light swooshing is simular to the baby moving. Also when a fish pecks at the bag is simular to the kicks! I alway been able to feel the baby by laying on my belly (at this point of pregnancy it won't hurt baby)! If you lay on your belly and feel that fish movement you will know if it's gas or movement when you are not laying on your belly!
Avatar m tn m on day 12 off the norco 10s(vics when my script ran out) I am doing pretty good besides the sleep part but my question is...what is the difference between addiction and dependence? I was reading another post and someone mentioned that he/she thought someone was dependent not addicted.. I'm just curious. Thanks in advance for any responses.
Avatar f tn Fenofibrates in my experience do have side effects especially if prescribed together with Statins ( Lipitor, Crestor, Zocor are some of the brand name statins). Check drugs.com for drug side effects and interactions.
