Common Questions and Answers about What is tamiflu used for

tamiflu

167 tn?1374173817 OB says to take Tamiflu and start today, but Tamiflu is not recommended for pregnancy based on unknown reactions to unborn children. Hubby and I don't know what decision is the best for us. Any opinions? The prescription is waiting for me...just so scared either way. I am leaning towards taking my chances and not taking it, but that is not the recommendation. What if I harm my baby by taking it? What if I do by not taking it??
Avatar n tn Tamiflu is completely safe for pregnant mama's. I'm a pharmacy assistant, a dispensary assistant and used to be a medical receptionist and a practice manager. So I'm partially aware of what's safe and whats not (obviously not as advanced as doctors and pharmacists) but it is most definitely safe to take. It's generally used for Influenza though not just a common cold.
Avatar m tn it was too late for Tamiflu) and he was good to go. Tamiflu is very expensive and from what I have heard time, rest, and fluids unfortuantely.
Avatar f tn I agree with the ladies above get to the dr asap. They will give you tamiflu. I felt better a day later took longe for the cough to go away. Good luck . I kno you feel like dealth. Hope for a speedy and safe recovery.
Avatar f tn My OB called me and told me that as a prevention she wanted to put me on Tamiflu which is not recommended for pregnant women because the side effects are unknown. She said that the benefits would outweigh the negatives most likely because there have already been deaths linked to this strain of flu. The pharmacist didn't seem worried because I am 18 weeks along. Any of you ladies been put on tamiflu? Should I trust my doctor and pharmacist?
Avatar m tn It did sort of answer my question as far as the timing goes. All we can do is try it. I used Tamiflu once because I got exposed and felt it coming on before a surgery that had been rescheduled two other times already. It worked like a charm - in combination with Sambucol - and knocked it right out of my system.
Avatar n tn He was given Tamiful within the first 48 hours and he is recovering very well. I do believe had it not been for the Tamiflu he would be feeling much worse for a longer period of time. I'm a believer!
Avatar n tn A doctor can write a prescription for any patient, regardless of age. He may have meant that your son doesn't fit the criteria for being helped by the drug. For example, Tamiflu is only helpful if started in the first 48 hours of the flu. You don't want him taking a medicine that won't help, and drugs become less effective when given to people that they won't help.
551343 tn?1506830518 Many people with MS took it and it was also used in Parkinsons. Amantadine stopped working for flu so we now have tamiflu. So many people have been given tamiflu a resistance must happen shortly. A nasty chesty cough is typical with swine flu but chest infections and pneumonia are complications. If she is continuing to bring up green mucus I would insist on seeing her GP.
Avatar n tn the chest infection is not getting any better (cant get in touch with my doctor till monday now) what is worrying me today is that my breathing is still bad..and any slight movements walking leads to coughing and lack of breath....today though..i am experiancing dizzy spells when i stand/move and a strange tingling/pins and needles feeling in my face - especially around my mouth.
Avatar f tn Mainly for prevention i was exposed to three different people who had it but I started showing some symptoms it just makes me nervous I've been uncomfortable since yesterday a lot of stretching feelings and some mild cramps.
Avatar f tn 30 weeks pregnant, has anyone ever took tamiflu while pregnant? Any side affects to you or your child after birth?
Avatar n tn The flu vaccine does work. There is overwhelming evidence to that fact. You are better off for having gotten it overall. However, this year, one of the strains of flu has mutated and we are seeing more flu cases. The warmer than usual temps don't help either because that means more people out in close contact with others. You may actually experience fewer or less severe symptoms for having gotten the vaccination. As far as Tamiflu, yes, it is safe during pregnancy. I have taken it myself.
7714453 tn?1394714282 I'm panicking! I'm pretty sure this is what getting hit with a bus feels like.. came down with a 101.5 temp tonight, chills, body aches, but I think the worst part has been the diarrhea... Any of you mom's got hit with the flu or severe cold during your pregnancy? I'm 18 weeks today and I feel awful. This crap hit me out of no where. I have a pretty good pain tolerance; just scared I'll cause harm to my baby. Anyone been prescribed meds for flu this pregnancy?
167426 tn?1254086235 Leslee had the flu shot this year, but her daughter that lives with them and is going to college developed Influenza A, last Tuedsay, Wenesday went to ER, dx with the flu, started on Tamiflu 75mg twice daily for 5 days, this put Leslee at great risk because of her immune system, after doing some research I found that the Tamiflu also is used to prevent flu, so I called Les and she went to her clinic today and they have now ordered the Tamiflu for her 75mg daily for 10 days.
Avatar f tn Yes I took tamiflu when I was pregnant with my son it's on the lowest scale for harming you or the baby. In other words its safe.
Avatar f tn I did, however, begin having symptoms a few months after a really bad bout of Flu A, for which I took Tamiflu. I'll ask my doctor about the SPECT. Thanks again!
Avatar n tn Yes. Your doctor should have given you a prescription of Tamiflu immediately. It would have helped tremendously. If you are having trouble breathing and your chest hurts, you need to get to the doctor, immediately.
Avatar f tn Tamiflu is in no way safe during pregnancy. The risks outweigh the benefits I'm pretty sure.its class c. I had flu last January 7 months pregnant and they couldn't give me anything. But tell me to stay hydrated!!
Avatar f tn If what he got really is confirmed to be flu (via nasal swab test), then his doctor should have prescribed Tamiflu for both him and you. Just take it and you will be fine.
