Common Questions and Answers about What is symbicort used for

symbicort

Avatar n tn COPD is the umbrella term that includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema. The symbicort is good for reducing the inflammation (therefore narrows the breathing tubes) in the lung pathways. It should help your bronchitis.
Avatar f tn What antihistamines have you used? It wasn't an antihistamine with a decongestant or Benadryl was it? Singulair can be used for Allergic Rhinitis like you have, however, this is usually prescribed for someone with Asthma issues secondary to Allergic Rhinitis. What nasal steroid are you using? Most of them can be used long term.
Avatar n tn A careful nasal examination, Allergen-specific testing includes Skin testing, Serum tests for allergy, Allergen challenge and as well as Evaluation for concurrent conditions like Sinusitis and Asthma is necessary and it directs further steps for management. Also you are on various medications, some of these are known to reduce the blood potassium levels (like thiazides) and can cause weakness known as hypokalemic periodic paralysis.
959034 tn?1253671476 m curious, are you using Symbicort as both preventative and rescue? If so, how is it working for you? The reason I ask is because it's not usually used for both purposes yet in the USA. I use Symbicort as a preventative primarily, a maximum of eight times each day, but I use Xopenex for rescue.
1098963 tn?1257865718 And in my case it was prescribed for COPD a medication commonly used for that condition. But for high blood pressure?
Avatar f tn here in the uk many people get symbicort for asthma , I have been on it for around a year , and I was only diagnosed with copd a cuople of weeks ago . I found it helped me enormously, it is probably an issue of cost why they dont give it to you , as each inhaler costs around £70...
Avatar f tn will be starting on champix and will be done with ciggarretes in 2 weeks but i was told if i take ventalin and smoke pot it could kill me and i currently take symbicort and ventalin (salbutamal sulphate) but i asked a nurse about if i was to smoke sum pot one day if i didnt take the ventalin all day would i be ok and she said yes but i would like a professionals information so my question is it ok for me to take symbicort and smoke on occasion?
Avatar f tn From your message, you appear to have an intolerance to the so-called non-sedating anti-histamines but hopefully will be able to take Singulair; it is a good drug for nasal allergies and also, for a fair number of people, effective treatment for asthma. And it is safe, not a cause of significant liver disease, and not associated with other side effects, deemed serious. To the best of our current knowledge, the long term use of a nasal steroid, as directed, does not pose a problem.
Avatar f tn I barely had symptoms and rarely used my rescue inhaler. Most of my past doctors said what I have is a mild asthma, but what confuses me is that my spirometry tests come back really good, like I was told I have 'super lungs'. Then why is it so hard for me to breathe? My current pulmonologist is skeptical because of how good my test was and now I am getting confused. He wants me to do the methocholine challenge, which I have scheduled in a few weeks.
Avatar m tn m sure it would be a scary time to have any breathing difficulties. For informational purposes, albuterol is an inhaler that is not a steroid.
Avatar m tn I have had breathing tests that shows my lung capacity is 65%. I just started to take Symbicort. Could the Symbicort be raising my blood pressure, or is it all in my head? When I take my BP a couple of hours after taking Symbicort its high. My Meds are: Crestor 40mg Amlodine 5mg Synthroid .250mcg Lisinopril 40mg twice a day Zolpidem 10mg Metoprolol 50mg one & 1/2 pills twice a day Symbicort 80/4.
Avatar n tn Symbicort does not cause "soaring" blood sugars. Consult your enchronologist. You may need to go to an injectable insulin, such as Lantus.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I am taking inhaled symbicort for months but I still have breathing problems
Avatar n tn Thanks for your comment and advice.
Avatar n tn after that my weezing was worst than ever and i started noticing that after i used advair my weezing was much worse. i saw this thread yesterday and now for a day and a half i havent used it and i feel alot better. i just started using sinus rinse today but i dont know if that had something to do with it also. other than sinus rinse, can you all recommend some other type of medications that i can use instead of advair that gets rid of inflamation?

Avatar n tn Having been on Advair for one year, I now have "frogs" in throat which causes me - a singer - to lose my voice when singing low notes. The Advair was discontinued and I am now on Symbicort which, I am afraid, is causing the same problem. Is there a simple "home remedy" for this problem? Thank you.
757137 tn?1347196453 The long lasting bronchodilator should only be used together with a steroid inhaler. This is a website that will help identify other drugs you can use. Spiriva I have heard is good for COPD. http://www.lung.ca/diseases-maladies/copd-mpoc/treatment-traitement/medications-medicaments_e.
Avatar f tn I have been taking symbicort for about 8 months and in that time i notice that my weight has gone up by around 1 stone (14llbs), i have never been overweight and have always eaten healthily and taken exercise. No matther how many times i go to the gym or how much salad i eat it wont go away. None of my clothes fit me and i have gone up a bra size or two.
Avatar n tn (I am at the lower edge of stage II COPD). I substituted natural anti-inflammatories and my breathing is better for it. What had been serious bronchitis abated. I continued to use DuoNeb and Zyrtec. But the real improvement was when a respiratory therapist suggested I take nebulized Mucomyst (acetylcisteine). I have not coughed one single time since I started using it and my FEV1 has improved 20 per cent. Doctors routinely prescribe steroids with little thought to the problems they cause.
Avatar f tn Hmm, really? That is so interesting! I am only on an oral contraception at this time. So Symbicort can cause pupillary abnormalities? Is it specifically known to cause tadpole pupil, tonic pupil or pupil movement? Or all of what I am experiencing? Do you know any more about this or the mechanism by which Symbicort causes that side effect? Thanks so much!
Avatar f tn The inhaler he gave is helping thankfully. But I am only suppose to use it for a week so what I am suppose to do after that I am unsure, hoping to be able to ask him. He did not give me another inhaler. I did do some form of breathing test at the beginning of the appointment though.
Avatar n tn I am wondering if his sore throat is caused by the Symbicort and what can I do for it, I am giving him throat lozenges and pop sickles. This has been going on for about 4 days now and he has been on the Symbicort since July 7th.
