protein

Avatar f tn I am also having difficulty in finding how much that is (e.g. is 1 mg soy protein equal to 1 mg soy isoflavones; the articles I have found state that 30 soy isoflavones is the amount found in 5-8 ounces of soy milk which only contains 10 mg of soy protein).
Avatar n tn m glad you already knew about avoiding heavy loads of soy or peanuts. This is especially important for vegetarians, since their main source of protein is plant based. I hope the expert still answers your question soon. You are wise to take action now to prevent future problems. I'm glad you feel good with the diet, too. I know you're just wanting to keep things that way.
Avatar f tn soy is a controvercy that will always be there. Many leading health writers now say its bad for the whole body, yet many still support it. Its though to steer away from it if you have thyroid issues. Its used in Asia for centuries in food, but the difference apparently is fermentation....... or not, and how much you are consuming.
Avatar f tn Okay I'll start with what I've figured out for myself so far! What is your favorite....... Apple? - Cameo Protein Bar? - Not sure yet! Still trying them out. Avatar f tn I have read this anti-soy stuff for over three decades now, as I was in the health food biz as a store manager for 18 years. I can tell you it was all started by the same people who came out with the "Beef: it's what's for dinner" ads, which are paid for partly by the Dept. of Agriculture, just as the milk ads are. I don't doubt the theoretical questions raised about soy.
Avatar f tn For a nine year old, this is complicated. Goat's milk is milk, and though it's easier on the human body than cow's milk, it's still milk, so the question is why milk is being discontinued. A lactose intolerant person might very well still be lactose intolerant to goat's milk, for example, but someone who has digestive problems with cow's milk might not with goat's milk. There's also a taste issue.
Avatar m tn These include MSG, aspartame, hydrolyzed proteins, vegetable protein, isolated protein, soy products (including soy protein isolates, soy protein and soy milk), natural flavoring, sodium or calcium caseinate and others. All of these food additives worsen brain excitation and have been shown to specifically target the amygdala nucleus a set of neurons in the brain’s temporal lobe. They are key to the processing of emotions. Increase your vegetable intake to at least 5 servings a day.
Avatar f tn I tried googling this earlier in my pregnancy and didn't like what I found... that none are really "good" for me or baby right now. I went with veggie & fruit smoothies and used soy milk as it had higher protein content (vs other but mills). But I want to know if anyone else has found out anything else!
Avatar f tn It was from soy. In 1998 I decided to start eating soy as a replacement for protein. While my diet had very little protein as I was a vegetarian, I could now finally have the protein I always craved and I found it in soy frozen food products. I also developed a love for coffee to keep me going with all the issues I was going through at that time. So here I had my soy food to finally eat and coffee with cream and sugar to keep me feeling good.
Avatar n tn What I do know is the kind of soy that is most problematic is isolated soy protein -- this is what you find in so many processed foods in the US. This is different than soy protein, which is fine -- it's a highly processed and altered form of soy. The other thing which is even worse is tvp, or texturized vegetable protein, which is even more highly processed soy.
Avatar n tn I have read that you should not have soy isolates if there is a thyroid problem. Is this true? I used the whey protein for a couple of years. Can't prove that the nodule came after that. Cathy S.

Avatar m tn I am concerned about this and wish to remove her from soy and try almond milk (she has no tree nut allergies). My concern is almond milk has very little protein. What should I give her to provide her with enough protein that cow's milk has? Do I give her protein pills? Are there any side effects of almond milk?
Avatar m tn What you need to do is research the forms of protein. Some soy protein is quite bad for people, some is quite good. Depends on the form. Same with whey. For building muscle, some prefer egg protein, but most seem to like the whey. Organic is great, but when you're isolating something down to the protein, it's more important it be done correctly. An organic product that uses the wrong kind of method of isolating the protein isn't going to be very helpful.
Avatar f tn doc, im 31 cirrhotic patient for 10 years. although they could not traced the caused of the liver problem since it was found when i was a teenager. had my spleen removed when 15 yrs old but after that few years back i was in and out of the hospital due to portal hypertension. also have esophageal varices as they found it when i had the operation.
Avatar f tn Only buy organic soy products, avoid the soy based additives in so many foods such as TVP and hydrolyzed protein and soy extract and such -- the more processed any food is, the less healthful it is. Also remember that soy is a common food allergen, so be alert for that possibility. What you need are a few good books on nutrition, since nobody really knows what's best to eat and there are many theories about it.
428506 tn?1296557399 s not true that phytoestrogen is the what makes soy dangerous. Isoflavones are also progesteronic, which is why they were originally advocated. They actually balance hormones, they don't create them unless they're needed. Now, the controversy comes in mostly with men, who don't generally need balancing of female hormones. Not with women.
Avatar m tn If you look at just about everything even some tea bags it has Soy!!!! When my granddaughter was born her digestive system wasn't fully mature and she couldn't drink formula. The DR. wanted to put her on Soy and My son said no and they put her on a pre digested formula that is only made in England for about $400 a month for about 1 year!!!
Avatar n tn Not that Silk crap. I mean good soy milk. I did use yogurt for a while, but it has more sugar than soy milk and soy milk has more protein and calcium. You can't even taste the veggies. Its full of protein, calcium, omega 3s, pretty much all the vitamins you need in the day. Also, I make this salad, no dressing needed. You just use whatever dry beans you want and wash them and soak them in water overnight.
Avatar f tn What are you trying to accomplish? Normally protein drinks are a supplement and not made to be "meal replacement". I'm no dietician but typically protein drinks don't have a bunch of nutrients.
Avatar f tn You get protein by using dairy products which can come from animal or plant sources, such as, milk, soy milk, rice milk, yogurt, soy yogurt, cheese, soy cheese, soy ice cream, and rice ice cream. For the plant protein, you need to combine grains and nuts / seeds for essential protein have to be used daily such as rice and beans, pasta and beans, nuts to oatmeal, peanut butter and bread, and salad and nuts.
290018 tn?1240365868 My son is almost 4 and is allergic to casein (milk protein) we have switched him to soy milks and casein free products. We purchased some "Tofutti" brand dairy free (and casein free) pizzas for him. I have noticed the last 2 times I have given it to him that minutes after eating he develops a rash on each side of his mouth. They first time the rash on each side was round and bright red. This time one side is rounded and the other is more of a rectangle.
Avatar f tn If you are concerned then I say yes try some other formula here are 3 hypoallergenic ones I know of Alimentum, Nultramigen , Pregestamil Johnsons do a natural formula aswell.
Avatar n tn We would like to avoid giving him soy until he is over three years old. However, the nutritional benefit of soy may be worth giving it to him now. Should we give him soy milk? How likely is it that he will become allergic to it?
