Avatar n tn Seborrheic dermatitis may require frequent shampooing and washing of affected parts of the body.It usually presents in the chest, the scalp and the face. Psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis may sometimes be hard to distinguish fom each other. A consult with your primary physician may be able to help. Psoriasis may present atypically as nonscaly reddish bumps that may appear like rash.
Avatar f tn It usually occurs in areas of the body that have many oil-producing glands, including the scalp, face, more specifically on the eyebrows, the bridge and sides of the nose, and in the crease between the nose and lip . The cause of seborrheic dermatitis is not completely clear but may be associated with overgrowth of a normal skin fungus. There is no specific test for diagnosing seborrheic dermatitis. The diagnosis is usually based upon a person's history and physical examination.

Topical antifungals and mild steroids are the usual treatment and combination of the two can be used to treat stubborn patches. Oral antifungal drugs and immunomodulators such as tacrolimus and pimecrolimus are used in very severe cases.
Avatar n tn At this point, there is really no effective medical therapy for hair loss. If your hair loss is associated with tinea and seborrheic dermatitis then the underlying disorders need to be addressed first. Hair loss also has a genetic basis. Male or female pattern baldness may follow a hereditary pattern. Treatment of the tinea and seborrheic dermatitis may help resolve the hair loss. Creams may not be sufficient for scalp infections. You may need oral antifungal therapy.
Avatar n tn Hi, probably it is because of seborrheic dermatitis, you might be having acne problem. In some people, a yeast (fungus) called malassezia grows in the sebum along with bacteria. Antifungal treatments, such as ketoconazole (Nizoral), are often effective. “Try using the shampoo daily until your symptoms are controlled, then cut back to two or three times a week.
Avatar n tn Lack of sleep, emotional stressors and even weather have been implicated. There is no definite cure for seborrheic dermatitis. Vigorous and frequent shampooing seem to be the therapy of choice." The type of shampoo used is less important than the aggressiveness and the frequency with which it is applied". Shampooing should last for at least 5 minutes. Topical corticosteroids may be necessary for more severe cases. This may be applied after shampooing.
Avatar n tn I make my own which is cheap and easy to do and I apply it topically to the effected areas daily (takes seconds using a cotton pad) I also wash my hair with ACV once a week and I do not rince it out (there is no odour once its dried). Acv is a natural antibacterial agent and ph balances my skin to the acidic level it needs to be to fight this scourge. I have this afflîction under complete control. Try it, you will see results within seconds of application. ps.
Avatar f tn Hence if your child is school going then it is unlikely to be seborrheic dermatitis. However it is often hereditary and if you have been diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis, then your child carries the risk of having it in future life during adulthood. Moreover it causes redness and inflammation of skin with yellow patches or red, greasy skin covered with flaky white or yellow scales. Hence it is unlikely to be seborrheic dermatitis in your child’s case but confirmation needs to be done.
Avatar n tn I have dry, flaky skin around the creases of my nose and a spot of it above an eyebrow. It's a little red, not itchy, just peels off and then reappears. Anyone know what this is and how I can get rid of it?
Avatar m tn Topical tacrolimus or pimecrolimus does not exacerbate acne rosacea and is very effective for thin plaques of seborrheic dermatitis. These are the agents of choice for the treatment of combined seborrheic dermatitis/rosacea. Hence you should first get the diagnosis confirmed and then get the treatment prescribed. You need to get it examined from a dermatologist. He will examine it by a dermatoscope and maybe send a skin biopsy sample containing few skin cells for examination to the laboratory.
Avatar m tn Hello, It looks like seborrheic dermatitis. Seborrhoeic Dermatitis is believed to be an inflammatory reaction related to the proliferation of normal skin habitant Malassezia – a yeast, which produces toxic substances that infect and irate the skin. The disease is neither contagious nor related with diet but it may be aggravated by other illness like Psychological stress, immune compromised patients, neurological diseases like Parkinsonism and stroke.
Avatar n tn i try to hide it with lotion and stuff but its not removing it.. its getting worst and worst..
Avatar m tn I put moisture cream o it and it doesnt really help. Is this still donsidered Seborrheic dermatitis? And would the desonate gel still be the right rx to use?
Avatar n tn Hello, From the symptoms it can be dermatitis skin, seborrheic dermatitis or fibrous papule of the nose. Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes flaky, dry, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas esp. under the nose or anywhere on face. People with seborrheic dermatitis produce too much sebum (the natural skin oil). Later, pityrosporum yeast grows excessively in the sebum, sometime along with bacteria, making the dermatitis more persistent.
Avatar f tn I have never had any issues with my skin and I have read that seborrheic dermatitis is strongly related to HIV, i also have red eyes and frequent migraines. When do HIV patients start developing seborrheic dermatitis? What other symptoms are developed with it? When performing my last test alcohol was not completely dry on my finger + the final reading was before the 20 minutes mark set by the manufacturer.
