Avatar f tn I know propranolol is used for PTSD...but what should I ask for in the pharmacy and what is the dosage? Are there any serious effect if taken without proper knowledge?
Avatar f tn PROPRANOLOL Prapranolol, introduced in 1965, was the first widely used beta blocker. It is most often used to treat hypertension, agina, and abnormal heart rhythms but it is also helpful in controlling the fast heart rate and other symptoms of an overactive thyroid gland. Propranolol also helps to reduce the palpitations, sweating, and tremor of severe anxiety and is also used to prevent migrane headaches. STOPPING THE DRUG Do not stop the drug without consulting your doctor.
Avatar f tn I've had a rough couple of weeks, herxing like crazy with my mood going downward. I know I need to make some changes and have put an email into my Doc with no answer...The 3 new drugs I've started in the last 2 weeks are Mepron, Propranolol, and Methyl-Guard plus. I'm wondering which of these is causing the depression. If it's the mepron I'm off it for 2 weeks but I never want to take it again.
Avatar f tn The way, for example, nutritionists often treat food allergies is to eliminate almost all the food you eat to a bare minimum and then start adding foods back one at a time to see if that's what you're allergic to. Just a hard thing to deal with. In your case, when you get a new problem right after starting a medication, the medication is the most likely culprit.
Avatar n tn When you were switched, I'm assuming a doctor made this decision to switch out Lexapro for Paxil and add on Klonopin? Are they aware of your also taking propranolol? Drug interactions are real but typically doctors try to be aware of a patients full history as long as you provide it to them. A pharmacist where you fulfil your prescriptions is also a great source of information. In general, paxil and klonopin are frequently prescribed together.
Avatar m tn Your drug is also used for anxiety, usually social anxiety, so it might be helping. But when you're obsessive about something, the only way to overcome it is to stop doing it. If you think taking the drug isn't helping but is just obsessive, a good therapist, probably one who specializes in CBT, might help guide you through this. But if you feel you're going to need medication, well, you're on one used for anxiety that's easier to stop taking than most.

Avatar n tn Over 8 years, i lost count of the meds I tried for anxiety. The top four benzo, altering doses as needed. I also was a medication aide for people like me and had to administer anxiety meds as needed for others at a group home I worked at. Currently I am getting 90 valium a month, three a day as needed. Does it work? Honestly, I don't think so, but I am sure it prevents escalating or has some unknown benefit. Valium is a long lasting benzo, Short stuff won't protect a job.
Avatar n tn But I used to get panic attacks in form of tachycardia and palpitations. I have been taking Propranolol for last 3 months and have tapered it off to 5 mg 2 times a day. Because of the persistent symptoms of panic attacks, my endocrinologist referred me to a psychiatrist. She diagnosed me as having Mixed Anxiety Depression. She prescribed me: 25 mg Sertraline - Once in a day 0.
Avatar f tn 7, T4 not tested I have now been taken off the Methimazole, and am weaning off the Propranolol (I see the cardiologist in Nov) and wanted to know what the likelihood is that the medication will have permanently prevented the nodule from becoming active again and if there is a time frame - i.e.: if my symptoms don’t return for 3 months, can I be reasonably assured the problem is solved permanently? Thank you for your assistance.

Avatar n tn can i take 5mg diazepam and 10mg propranolol together and what is the best dosage to work effectively for panic attacks and anxiety when public speaking?
Avatar f tn You are substituting one Beta Blocker for another, so the warning does not apply. Bisprolol is a selective Beta Blocker designed to have most effects on the heart. Propranolol is non selective, it affects the heart and Beta Receptors elsewhere in the body. Propranolol is sometimes used to calm people as well as for its use for the heart and blood pressure.
Avatar f tn I discussed my occasional ED with my psych doc and we both feel it's anxiety related. He recommended propranolol 10mg just before sex. It's a beta-blocker mostly used to lower blood pressure but sometimes used for performance anxiety situations like stage fright, exam taking, job interviews etc. He's used it with other patients experiencing ED. I also do take the beta-blocker pindolol which has kept my BP at 125/70 for years.
Avatar f tn ll feel sedate for a few days to weeks, but many people enjoy that, some have used prescription propranolol just for anxiety. You mentioned concern of feeling shortness of breath, what exactly caused you to focus on that?
Avatar f tn Hi and welcome to the Migraines & Headaches Community. I take it daily however it is along with other meds too. Usually treating migraines and/or anxiety is not a one-thing-fix-all. And even if something worked on you in the past may not work today and vise-versa. You can definitely ask about it, it won't hurt. But, my suggestion is to just let your doctor how bad it is and let him/her choose what to give you next. Remember, treatment is a marathon, not a sprint.
Avatar n tn I have a question. Are drugs in the benzo family ever used to treat seizures? As in Xanax, Klonopin, Valium, Ativan, Restoril, etc? I have simple partial seizures and was on xanax on an "as needed" basis to control some nervousness about going back to college. I was on it for about 2 months. I started realizing I got less of my sensory and motor seizures which have always been uncontrollable since I started getting them back in 2000.
Avatar n tn This is what I found on the web for propranolol: ------------------------------------------- Propranolol falls into the broad pharmacologic category known as beta blockers. Beta blockers block specific sites in the central nervous system known as beta-adrenergic receptor sites. When these sites are blocked, heart rate and blood pressure are reduced and patients become less anxious. Because of this, propranolol is useful in treating chest pain, high blood pressure, and excessive nervousness.
