Hi everyone, My mom was recently diagnosed with Hep C associated cirrhosis. She has had some complications, including esophageal varices and ascites. She remains fairly well compensated and does not exhibit symptoms such as fatigue or confusion. During an endoscopy her doctor also noticed an ulcer and tested her for H pylori (which was positive). He's prescribed Prevpac to kill the bacteria and heal the ulcer.

The doctor prescribed Prevpac. This medicine is very strong and always have bad taste in my mouth. Now I have been taking this medicine for five days. I still feel pain in the stomach especially in the early morning time close to 5 am. My question is if I am having pain due to the bacteria then by taking this medicne when should I start feeling comfortable. Could it be I have some other condition?

Yea, I hear ya. Am taking a prevpac which is a combo design specifically for this issue. 2 antibiotics from different classes as well as a PPI.

Stomach ulcers are caused by the bacteria h.pylori. There is a combination of antibiotics that has a good chance of curing the infection. They are usually sold as "PrevPac" and you take them for 10-14 days, depending on what your doctor says. However, stomach pain is not always caused by an ulcer. Antibiotics will not help with other causes, and could possibly even make your stomach pain worse. Be sure to talk to your doctor.

i would def. take the ppi for a few months after your prevpac is done because your stomach needs time to heal, but it shouldn't take longer than that. digestive enzymes are a great idea while taking the prevpac, i took it also in jan. 09..i ate alot of yogurt and took probiotics, in fact i still take the probiotics. all your stomach issues should be reversed with the elimination of the h pylori. eat a very bland diet, high in fresh non-citrus fruits, that is easy on stomach also.

About a month ago I was prescribed a course of Clarithromycin for a skin infection. Since taking the drug I've suffered huge surges of adrenaline, which kicks in like a lighting shot at the point of sleep. It kept me away many nights and I was beside myself with worry. It's now more than three weeks since I stopped the medication (I only completed 2.5 days out of 7) and I find that the adrenaline surges have subsided somewhat.

I feel the antibiotic company is getting a good sum of money. Lots of human being are taken this Prevpac treatment. Accordingly to them it works but why it keeps coming back.

I am 32 yrs old and suffering from upper left rib cage quardrant/abominal pain for 2 months. The pain is not related to what I eat and does not feel on phyical examination. But the dull pain comes/intensity increases by sitting or laying back. I dont feel the pain when I walk or do exercise. Have been visiting GI for 2 months and performed following tests: Endoscopy - Normal - Found h pylori bacteria and mild gastritis. Having been taking Nexium for 2 months. No changes in pain.

My husband started on 14 days of prevpac 4 days ago and is now experiencing extreme lack of energy and tiredness--very hard for him to get up in the a.m. and he is exhausted by 2 or 3 p.m. Could this be a side effect of the drugs? I have noticed every so often I will have a sore throat. It looks raw and unpleasant. Is it common to get sore throats? I thought maybe this was caused by the acid reflux going back into the throat??? Also I am on 5days of doing the prevpac and am wondering how long it takes to heal?

I had OT for about 14 months and tried most of the home cures with occasional temporary relief. Like most, I appear to have developed OT after a round of antibiotics and/or indication of Candida Yeast infection/exposure. In my case I had been on a low level Tetracycline prescription for decades to help control adult acne.

that burrows its way into the lining of your stomach making you sick..did they give you antibiotics for it? i was dx with it in jan. 2009 and did 2 weeks of prevpac, and am currently waiting for EGD to be done next wed. to check for inflammation and a biopsy if its still there..

I just started my 2 week dosage 3 days ago! Each time I take the 4 pills I do get a lil' nauseated..but nothing tooo bad! But my main problem is that I have this AWFUL metal taste in my mouth! And the more meds I take the worse and stronger the taste gets. Is there anything I can do to lessen this?? Just that awful taste makes me very sick to my stomach! Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

I had gasteritus but I finished my pills (prevpac). I have tightness in my left shoulder and it has a little lumb on the bottom of the shoulder. I have discomfort in my whole body and cant find relief.

t seem to be going away. At what point I made dr appt. They found I had the H pylori antibody. So this is day nine on the prilosec and day seven on the antibiotics (Ammoxicillin and clarithromycin)for the H pylori. My symptoms are still there SOMETIMES after eating. For the most part it has been a bland diet, except for the exception of a hamburger yesterday which caused extreme discomfort. Could this be a side effect of the medicine or my stomach trying to heal still?

If it is indeed ulcers, then she has h.pylori, which is a bacteria, not a virus. There is a combination of antibiotics that is effective at treating it. In the States, they sell it in a package called a PrevPac.
