My mom, who is now age 67, was on prempro for over 20 yrs. She had a hysterectomy at age 32 and therefore experienced menopause medically. She was not put on hormones at that time but later her ob/gyn started her on prempro. Her ob/gyn retired 5 yrs ago and the new doctor she began seeing is quite a bit younger. He flipped when he found out my mom had been on prempro that long. He told her in his opinion it was totally unnecessary and took her off of it.

After calling my doctor, she recomended going back on the Prempro and doing a very gradual taper which would take 42 weeks. This is the only treatment she will recommend for me. I was just given a prescription for Vagifem and I have my Uterus. I'm using it because I feel like my skin is tearing during sex. It's very painful. I'm not sure if it's going to work or not. So, yes, I would guess you could have mood swings due to menopause any time after. I am 59 and have been on Prempro for about 7 years and just went off them and my hot flashes now are worse than ever! I have severe insomnia (I take sleeping pills every night and sometimes they don't help!) I have been sleeping with the windows open even when it's getting down into the 30s and 40s at night and that helps a lot.

Then came the big Prempro crash and controversy. I stayed on it anyway for several more years without insidence then the pedulum swung back and some people have resumed its use again. The main point to me is I am pretty sure hormones have some HUGE part in MS and I so urge the drug companies to try to find out just what part they play! It could be the prempro. Ask your doctor about going off of it for a few month and see if that helps. I heard that estrogen can cause congestion along with other medications. In the past few months my blood pressure has been really crazy. The diastolic is always over 100 and my doctor has changed my medication now 3 times. Is there possibly an interaction between the Hoodia I'm taking to lose weight and the blood pressure?

Called him again today and he takes me off prevera and puts me on prempro. I dont understand why he is putting me on all this hormone medication. I am afraid it will afect me getting pregnat or worse. Has anyone been through this and will it harm me.

While this new FDA stance against neutral bases....they use a hypoallergenic cream such as what is used as the base for every over-the-counter cream in America, or lactose, which is component of MILK for crissakes....it means that anybody with an allergy or a sensitivity to an ingredient in a manufactured drug is up a creek, at least if they are on Medicare.
