Avatar m tn Dogs don't do well on long term steroid treatment. Are you sure it's prednisone/prednisolone that he's taking? What is he taking the steroid for? Did he have seizures BEFORE starting the corticosteroid? How long has he been taking the corticosteroid? These are all important questions before an answer can be attempted.
Avatar m tn He went to the vet for an ear infection and was prescribed prednisolone 20mg. When he got home he started to become dizzy, yelping and unable to walk properly. He's holding his head up and refuses to lye down. It looks like he's in a lot of pain. Does this sound familiar to anybody?
Avatar f tn The difference between prednisone and prednisolone is that one is the precursor to the other. Prednisone is activated by enzymes in the liver to turn into prednisolone. They do have similar uses but prednisolone is more readily absorbed by the body. Prednisolone is usually used when there is liver toxicity or liver failure involved. There is no great difference between them, other than the above, however ...
Avatar f tn I'm going to check out Chewy for the Dasuquin, and will call the vet tomorrow about prednisolone. Our other cat was on it for years for IBD, I can't see why it couldn't be tried for this one, even if it was just for a short while.
9214378 tn?1408881584 The increased drinking is a marker for prednisolone, as it is a common side effect, however kidney disease can also cause this (as many of us know). With prolonged use, prednisolone can cause both Cushings and/or Diabetes, so it should not be prescribed over a long period. I am very concerned your vet stopped the prednisone suddenly, as this could have caused the dog to become seriously and potentially fatally ill. Prednisilone should never be stopped abruptly.
17344032 tn?1455826300 I buy the vivitonin, the prednisolone and the food from regularly from the vets, unfortunatly my dogs symptons have started to return As I have now spent the verylast of mysaving onvet fees for my Benji dog my already overstretched budget just dosent allow for the very expensive veraflox, and so my question is... Would it be safe to give my dog Flucloxacillin the human antibiotic and if so, what would the dosage be for my 7.
Avatar m tn This did not work either, so the ivomec was increased to 2ml and a treatment of 5mg prednisolone was given for one week along with a treatment of 1 biotin daily. At first this seemed to help but after she came off of the prednisolone she started to lose hair again and the flakes started again. My vet then advised me to give her a constant dose of the prednisolone i.e 1 tablet every other day. This did not work. The yellow flakes are now all over her body and she scratches all night.

Avatar f tn I had been in a treatment with prednisone and Methotrexate for one year but the abscess goes away and comes back, so I guess that the medicine is not working in my body, at less not for the GM, b/c is killing me with the side effects. I would like to start think on the mastectomy but i am really confused. yesterday I was on the Dr and actually I have a drain until tomorrow when the Dr will change it.
Avatar f tn The medications suggest that she is being treated for asthma. Keep her diet low on sugar, since sugar is an inflammatory, and make sure she has a good, healthy diet, as free of chemicals and additives as possible. You might want to get her checked for allergies.
Avatar f tn I am worried that the prednisolone might react with the oroxine therapy which I am taking daily for my Hashimotos hypothyroidism. The amount of prednisolone is 25mg per day for 1 week, then 10 mg per day for 2 weeks, then 7.5mg per day for 4 weeks, then 5 mg per day until i see the doctor in 3 months time. The liver doctor has also put me on ursodeoxycholic acid tablets 1 tablet two times a day.
1580703 tn?1651904887 ve been given prednisone 10mg for 30 days and was previously on 10 days of 25-50mg of HC. Is it ok for the liver and will it damage the adrenals or cause adrenal atrophy? thanks so much!!!
Avatar m tn the vet cant figure out what is causing this.Blood work shows nothing major. Was put on prednisolone 4 days ago 20mg twice a day, no more twitches but seems not like her happy self, could I cut in half and still get benefit of no twitches but my happy dog back.If anyone knows what could be causing her to almost have seizure like episodes I would love to know.
665797 tn?1225283365 My husband has suffered with cluster headaches for 12 years, he was prescribed Prednisolone in a high dose then reducing, the headaches would stop. He did this for a few years, but unfortunately he started to have chronic cluster headache for about a year, he tried & tried the prednisolone but this did not work.
Avatar f tn I know...I'm so happy really I am. As I said before this forum gave me the confidence to ask questions and ultimately change vets too...so thank you. I also went on my gut feelings too knowing that the first bloods and the way my dog was just didn't seem right. Baillie loves cabbage and white rice which is what I'm adding to her Royal canin renal food along with a little chicken thigh meat and for a treat kangaroo meat.
577603 tn?1217700205 Hi, Has anyone taken the above tablets- they are a steroid and I have been put on them as the doctor is not sure if it is Chron's or Colitis. Just wondered what side effects anyone had experienced on these?
Avatar m tn t as bad as I thought, but she hasnt been eating very much the last few days. What else can we do to get her to eat? Is she in pain? or is she just too weak from not eating? How long does she have to be on the antibiotic for? Will she get her appetite back? I've read a lot of the threads on this website, as well as read Tony's guide. Thank you for any input.
Avatar f tn HIV COMBO test came negative after 46, 70, 124 and 138 days . I have been taking 5 mg Prednisolone daily for last one year . I have below concern 1. Prednisolone can delay antibodies? 2. These results are conclusive or need to repeat at 6 months?
612551 tn?1450022175 The battle to be won with/for Wilson, is what is he allergic to, and keeping me from giving him "stuff" to eat because I have always done that with dogs and he/they love it (have fun). Right now I am wrestling with the "No grain" issue. That is one aspect of his Kibble, main food, but given many recommend rice in a dog's diet, that can't be with "no grain", same goes for corn. I have used both to get him to eat a pill, including the subject prescription.

Avatar m tn Hi Guys, I am newly DX with chrons two weeks ago and have been placed onto Prednisolone 50 mg a day. I was wondering how these drugs worked for other people? Other than the fact that they hav brought my D under control, I am still having really bad stomach pains. How quick did you guys get results with these drugs? Was it long term effects bad on you? I was told that they should work straight away, but no such luck! Since starting them, I have had UTI AND A KIDNEY INFECTION.
