Pataday is for allergy. While I cannot give you an exact diagnosis the most common problem by far is contact lens related problem not dry eye which is extremely rare in a male age 18. Generally it means your contacts are not fitting, you are not wearing them properly or disposing at correct interval or have developed a problem called GPC (giant papillary conjunctivitis). you will need to work through this with whomever fits your contact lens.

I've been dealing with this problem now for about three years. I don't think my opthamologist knows exactly what is going on. Isn't there any way of the doctor to take a tear sample and have a culture done? That seems to be the only way of finding out whether there is a bacterial thing going on. If I suggest this to the doctor, she will shrug it off and just say that she can't see any sign of infection and that it's an alergic reaction to something. So, what do I do?

I suffer from the exact same thing with the inside corner of my eye driving me crazy at times it itches so bad. What has helped me is Rx eye drops called Pataday. It is for itchy allergy eyes, and sometimes I put a drop or two on the end of a q-tip and dab it in that corner of my eye and sometimes I put the drop directly into the eye. Works wonders. Whether it is allergy or irritation of some sort, the drops take the itch away for me. I hope this works for you.

I have now added a puffy, itchy lower lip to the problem. I do not know what is causing this and need help.

Keratoconus and Coguns Corneal Dystrophy. Recently a syst has formed in the corner of each eye. Can't tell if it has added to already existing discomfort. Have beenn Restasis, Alrex , Pataday and now Muro ointment. I see a well known Corneaologist and he wants me to have the Amniotic Membrane Transplant especially now that I have developed the eye cysts.

The doctor prescribed me Lotopred, Ikul, Systane ultra eye drops for every four hours a week and said not to wear lenses for 10 days. I followed the instructions and my eyes got back to normal.

I have GPC and do not wear contacts. I’ve been on prednisone eye drops for the past week with no relief. Was on Pataday for a month before that with no relief. What can I do?

What do you mean by leaky eyes? Tearing, or is there leakage in your macula? Dr. O.

Systane, Blink, Refresh, Soothe and something for allergies like Patanol or Pataday. If your allergy is bad enough to require a steroid then lotemax, or pred mild would be better choices.

Neither is specific for dry eyes. pataday is a once/day allergy eye drop and Xibrom is a non-steroidal antiinflammatory. If your problems are truely dry eyes you would do better with frequent artifical tears, a lubricating gel at bedtime, oral fish oil (2-4 enteric coated/day) and if moderate or severe then a 6 month trial of Restasis.

There are different names for what you are seeing but "Ghosting" is the most often used. Ghosting can be due to cataracts, corneal disease, astigmatism, macular disease or problems related to contact lens wear. See an Eye MD for a complete evaluation. This is important. Find one at www.aao.

I was diagnosed with GPC and recently ended the use of steroid drops. Ever since I've stoped the steroid drops, I've woken up with crusty, glued eyes. Could the lingering GPC be causing this? I've been doing artificial tears multiples times a day and Pataday drops 2x a day. I have a follow up appointment soon, I'm thinking about trying to move it up if this is something serious.

How long does it take for the plugs to work, I mean my eyes aren't burning like before, but they're still somewhat red. I don't know if it's cleared a little, but I don't see a big difference. How long before my eye plugs clear up my dry eyes.

I went to my eye doc and vision was 20/25 in both eyes with glasses of course and that is even with my wet, now dry AMD. ( Eyelid scrubbing and tears are not helping either. And I've been checked for diabetes, I am fine. Please help.

With ceasing contacts is is very rare for the bumps not to go away. If they persist its unusual which is why you find them written up in medical journals. There is a grading system for GPC. A few bumps may persist indefinitely but if they don't cause irritation they don't need to be treated. You can get GPC from other causes such as irritation from a scleral buckle.

Thanks for your reponse Dr. O That is my next plan. I don't know what it is. THe opthamologist said he didn't thikn it was . Now both eyes are swelling over night while I sleep. My face is broke out with a rash of some type and the skin on my face itches allot around outer surface of the eye area. No irratation at all inside my eyes. I has been 6 weeks straight now. The doctor has me taking antihistimine drops ( Pataday) in my eyes, Omnaris Nasal Spray and , Zyrtec by mouth.

I tried a short course of steriod drops which relieved my symptoms, but they returned as soon as I stopped. Restasis for three months has offered no improvement. Pataday and Acular provide no benefit either. I am at a loss as to what to do next. I would greatly appreciate any direction or ideas.

Mitomycin is a very potent drug which is used to prevent scarring in glaucoma and other surgeries. It can have some serious complications if not used appropriately. An amniotic membrane graft is used to prevent recurrence of pterygium after excision, and could conceivably be used in your case. I would see an EyeMD who is a specialist is cornea and anterior segment disease.
