Avatar m tn But that are usually prescription brand-vs-generic, or OTC (non-prescription) brand-vs-generic. What I am looking for is real-life experiences from people who have moved from PRILOSEC OTC to GENERIC RX OMEPRAZOLE, or vice versa. I've been taking PRILOSEC OTC (non-prescription) for quite awhile, after years on the original prescription brand Prilosec. With my current insurance I can save money by getting generic prescription omeprazole.
Avatar m tn While GERD could cause a few symptoms you describe it's unlikely it's causing the shaky, anxious, sweaty feelings. A reaction to meds can however including an allergic response that mimics panic attacks or heart problems. When you say that Prilosec didn't work out but you are on omeprazole? It's the same medicine--omeprazole is the generic. If Aciphex works and doesn't cause side effects, that might be a solution unless something else is going on.
Avatar f tn actually medicaid will pay for protonix or a generic version of it...I had gotten it filled three X just recently.
6778631 tn?1396407123 Anyone taking Omeprazole and milk of magnesia on occasion for acid reflux????
Avatar f tn I am taking tagamet otc- Walmart generic brand and for me it is better than the rx ones- But that's just me....
Avatar m tn HI, I have to agree with ChitChat to ask ur dr or pharmacist about something else u can take.....what u r taking is the generic of prilosec and that is a PPI or proton pump inhibator...it stops all acid. from being produced...however u need acid to break down the food in ur digestive track.....HII or histimine inhibitors do not stop acid from being produced only slows it down.....I was on prilosec on and off for yrs and it stopped working for me...so I am on a HII pepcid...
1364792 tn?1278051187 Omeprazole is an H2 blocker. It is helpful, but not the big guns for acid reflux that could be harmful. Omeprazole is available OTC. Some H2 blockers are also used as supplement antihistamines for people who have a hard time controlling allergies. OH, not acid reflux presents with the typical heart burn symptoms. Some people reflux higher and it does burn the esophagus in that way. Feel better.
Avatar m tn If you are taking a PPI such as prilosec or the generic omeprazole, peopl ehave reported the high BP as a side effect. I took 40mg omeprazole for 3 weeks and it elevated my BP.
Avatar f tn Until two days ago, I had been taking Prilosec OTC, 40 mgs. daily. I'm now taking the generic Omeprazole capsules, prescription. I switched to the generic version because it's covered by my insurance and it's a lot cheaper. I was told both meds were the same. However, after taking the generic Omep. capsules, I got bad side effects. I've never had any side effects from the Prilosec OTC. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed a significant difference in the two.
568812 tn?1379165794 Hi and welcome to the GERD forum. Antibiotics can trigger symptoms to worsen.....have you modified your diet and lifestyle? Talk to your Dr to explain your concerns and see what other options you may have....for me PPI's like omeprazole did not work for me and I switched to H2b and they work great.
Avatar m tn Losec or OMEPRAZOLE is what I am taking now and yes it works fine.I was told by the pharmasist thst it is a generic of prilosec. Ask ur dr on the dosage u need....the instructions on the box r to take for a period of time and stop.....but ur dr may tell u something different. If I stop for one day I can tell, so do ask ur dr what meds r right for u and what dosage to take and how.
Avatar f tn After having a throat infection for 13 years (Lingual Tonsillitis which has irritated the hyoid bone), I found an ENT who diagnosed me and put me on a few medications to bring down the inflammation. I was put on Prednisone for 14 days, Augmentin and generic Prilosec/omeprazole 20mg. As of a week ago wed the inflammation was down 75% and I was feeling much better after being sick for so long.
Avatar m tn Perhaps your son has allergies to foods with acids? Both orange juice and spicy foods have lots of acid content. You could trial him out on the over the counter Zantac, which is an H2 blocker, and will help with allergic reactions as well as indigestion. Or his own production of gastric acids are in excess and with the added acids in those foods, it leads to sweats, like when people eat hot chilli or hot wings.
Avatar m tn I have been taking 40mg Omeprazole for a year now for a stomach ulcer and because I also take celebrex 200mg for osteoarthritis I also have diverticulitis/ diverticulosis and had 30 polyps removed from my colon dec.
460830 tn?1347219306 I am taking several meds (mostly OTC/Vitamins) at different times of the day; Am I taking them at the right times? The Zyrtec makes me sleepy, so I take it at night...I suspect that the Lisinopril may be making me sleepy, too, or maybe slightly light-headed (?), but I still take it in the morning; Here is my list: Morning - Lisinopril, fish oil cap, Vitamin C, Calcium chew (with Vitamin D and Vitamin K added), Flonase. Noon - Multivitamin (Centrum Silver generic) and Vitamin A cap.
Avatar f tn Afrin is the original name brand for oxymetazoline. Never use it for longer than 3 days at a time and then off for three days. You can rotate if needed. There are a number of other meds a dr can prescribe to help control your symptoms if you really suspect allergies to be the cause. If that doesn't help your symptoms you can try OTC acid reflux meds like Pepcid, Zantac (omeprazole) and many other options.
Avatar n tn I take 300mg up to 2-3 xs a day of ranitidine. a generic prilosec and always take one before I lie down for bed at night Its great and its on the $4 list at most pharmacies!
Avatar m tn real simple: can men get candida overgrowth? I being have GI problems. I did endoscopy, and they found gastritis in my stomach. I'm trying to figure out what is wrong with me. Fungal infection could be a reason for gastritis. (I tested negative for H pylori). I also have white flaky dry skin around my belly bottom.
Avatar f tn I was taking a prescription (omeprazole) to control my severe reflux(GERD) before I found out I was pregnant. My primary doctor suggested I stop taking it until my first appt with OB( 1/27) to see what she suggests. My reflux is severe and I don't want to keep taking Pepcid and tums like crazy. Has anyone else had this before pregnancy and what were you given to take that was safe?
Avatar f tn HI....Omeprazole is Prilosec...it is the same thing...just a generic name, but the same med. If ur mom feels worse, it could be 1 of a few things....she possibly did not need the meds as she may have a condition called hypochlorhydria which is too little stomach acid....the symptoms r very similar as when u have too much acid. One other issue could be the fact she just stopped taking the meds...she should really step off of them slowly to avoid rebound effect...
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with "silent reflux" by my gastroenterologist a little over a year ago. Was put on 20 mg. of prilosec. Experienced a lot of belching and a feeling of a lump in my throat so it was increased to 40 mg. Symptoms went away. About a month ago my prescription plan changed and I was switched over to 40 mg. of generic omeprazole and didn't have any issues for several weeks. This past week the belching and feeling of the lump in my throat has come back.
9487829 tn?1404261279 My heartburn got to be a daily problem for me and my Dr prescribed Prilosec (Omeprazole generic name) and it works for me!
Avatar m tn Hey there. I'm so sorry you didn't get any responses. I forgot about this forum. I have had GERD also on and off. One thing that is very much associated with my Gerd is my weight and my diet. When I need to lose weight, I have BAD gerd. I lose weight, it gets significantly better. I don't know if that is you or not but it's common with Gerd. Talk about motivating to get in shape. Second, what I eat and drink factors in. Carbonated beverages or coffee? Gerd.
Avatar f tn Most knowledgeable hepatologists prescribe proton pump inhibitor (PPI) drugs like Nexium or Prilosec. Both are generally considered liver friendly; omeprazole is available generically if cost is an issue.
Avatar n tn Omeprazole is a generic out-of-patent medication that is a proton-pump inhibiter, commonly prescribed for GERDS. It is very inexpensive and works as well as nexium. That being said, there is disagreement in the complementary medicine community as to the treatment of GERDS, the details being too complex for discussion. There are alternative treatments. Phenergan is used to treat allergies. The simplist way to do that is to identify what you are alergic to and avoid that substance.
Avatar f tn s hard to tell what is causing the aches and pains. But for lowering cholesterol fast, it really does work. Be sure to throw in regular exercise. Nexium? Ask for a prescription for a generic version and you can get those $4 rx's that are a lot cheaper than the OTC nexium.... that stuff is pricey. I take a version of prevacid. You need to take a calcium supplement - it can strip your calcium and set you up for osteoporosis. My EGD is scheduled for mid-June.
