Avatar m tn The name of this medication i am on is Minodene (50mg) and it contains a substance called Minocycline. It says it is used for sexually transmitted infections, prostate infections etc and in the instructions it says it may affect medical results. Is the test at 8 weeks reliable?? so in other words im on these tablets and do the tablets affect my result i got from a INSTI test? Thanks!
Avatar m tn Thanks in advance for your response. I'm a 19 year old male that had a potential exposure 5 months ago with a female who is known to get around. The sex was unprotected. For the last year, I've been on 100mg of minocycline per day to treat acne. I looked up that minocycline is an investigatory drug for HIV because it can potentially reduce replication and activation in latent infected HIV cells, primary CD4+ cells.
Avatar f tn I know that you have already answered questions about antibiotics affecting HIV tests, but I wanted to ask this specific question. I am on 50mg of Minocycline twice a day, every day, on a long term basis for acne. When I searched the internet, I found a handful of results about Minocycline affecting HIV patients.
Avatar m tn Perhaps half of all Lyme patients in the US also have one or more co-infections along with Lyme, and medication for the co-infections is usually different from what is given to treat Lyme itself. (I had Lyme and babesiosis, which is in the malaria family. I was treated first for babesia, and then for Lyme, using different medications for each infection.
Avatar n tn The doctor told me I had “impetigo” and gave me two small sample tubes of Topicort 0.25% and some pills to treat it with. My skin quickly healed with the cream and pills. A few weeks later the same rash returned, this time a bit on the other side of my mouth area as well. I used what was left of the Topicort and it healed again. A few more flare-ups and treatments of Topicort after a return visit to the doctor and I was hoping to have this problem solved.

Avatar f tn Here is a great article about food interactions with drugs sometimes used to treat Lyme and coinfections. I have been on a few of the meds listed in the artIcle, and I was unaware of these conflicts, especially dairy / calcium with the tetracyclines (Doxycycline, Minocycline) & fluroquinolones (Cipro, Avelox, Levaquin). It also mentions that caffeine, and therefore chocolate, can interfere with some antibiotics, but then doesn't say which ones. http://health.yahoo.
Avatar n tn s skin cells, therefore breaking down my skin barrier or turning cell turnover too rapidly, which may make the cells clump up in my pores. How do I get to the gist of it and stop it? Is this auto-immune in nature?
Avatar n tn Hello, Perioral dermatitis is a chronic papulopustular and eczematous facial dermatitis.Treatment consists of oral antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs. A mild soap or soap substitute, such as Dove or Cetaphil should be used for washing. Scrubbing should be avoided. The antibiotics that you are taking can be taken and they wont worsen your condition.Consult your doctor for prescribing you a less potent steroid cream as steroid creams can cause redness and peeling of the skin.
Avatar f tn Not sure why you are taking the Minocycline which is used to treat bacterial infections. It is a potentially dangerous drug. You should get a referral. if needed. to see a gastroenterologist who is experienced in successfully treating patients with hepatitis C. They can help you coordinate with the psychiatrist before and during treatment. Good luck to you!
Avatar m tn Hello Peter, It usually helps us if you have a question or want to share a potential risk. Please see a physician for the correct dosage and correct diagnosis.
Avatar m tn So an autoimmune is being treated with an abx and abx are used to treat infections. So getting on Minocycline is a win win. Minocycline is also combined with Copaxone for greater improvement. Terry Walhs using Minocycline, and so does the Wheldon Procotol. Mino can enter the BBB which MS patients are known to have a damaged BBB, mine was still intact but I did have 5 o-bands of inflammation according to my LP. I am against DMDs because interferon-betas have pretty been proven to not do much.
Avatar n tn Generally, skin creams containing steroids should not be used to treat perioral dermatitis. Your physician may choose to treat the bumps with other topical medications, such as metronidazole, erythromycin, benzoyl peroxide, tacrolimus, clindamycin, or pimecrolimus. In more severe cases, oral antibiotics (such as tetracycline, doxycycline, minocycline, or erythromycin) may be required. Perioral dermatitis is a difficult condition to treat effectively.
Avatar m tn m worried because I read on the web minocycline is an investigatory drug for HIV that has been shown to reduce replication of the virus. Here's the link. http://jid.oxfordjournals.org/content/201/8/1132.full Please advise. Any replies are helpful. Thanks.
Avatar n tn Discuss it with your doc. Probably it is time to stop the minocycline; I doubt any antibiotic is going to make a difference. Perhaps most important, none of these problems -- chronic prostatitis, recurrent/persistent NGU, CPPS -- causes serious health outcomes for either affected men or their sex partners. All are an issue of comfort and inconvenient symptoms, not important health difficulties. I hope this helps.
314892 tn?1264623903 he said that even if the Igenex WB is negative, he will treat with Minocycline for some months to elicit a positive test. He said that patients who are initially negative will invariably become seropositive after being treated long enough. He will also use Benicar (BP med) to reduce inflammation in the blood vessels at the same time as the antibiotic. He also uses Flagy or the like to break up the cyst form.
Avatar m tn I went to the dermatologist and he gave me pills for my face Solodine 80 MG which is Minocycline. The irritation got better with the Solodine but I still have irritation. I told my girl friend to get treated and she went to her doctor but they checked her for everything and they said she they couldn’t treat her for something she doesn’t have. I told her to go back and get treated and she said her doctor finally gave her 2 pills.
Avatar m tn Ps i forgot to say that i wanted to try accutane but he wants me to try this first..im really nervous about going off the minocycline and retain micro.
Avatar n tn I have a question. Are drugs in the benzo family ever used to treat seizures? As in Xanax, Klonopin, Valium, Ativan, Restoril, etc? I have simple partial seizures and was on xanax on an "as needed" basis to control some nervousness about going back to college. I was on it for about 2 months. I started realizing I got less of my sensory and motor seizures which have always been uncontrollable since I started getting them back in 2000.
