Avatar m tn My question for the group is what drugs are being given to yoiu for long term pain care. To let you know about me I have stenosis in my entire spine, ruptured discs in both cervical and lumbar areas with nerve damage, constant pain, on a scale of 1 to 10 always between a 6 and 10 . I have loss of feeling in my hands and the constantly shake. I am a fall risk due to constant loss of balance. I am also starting to loose feeling in my feet.
Avatar n tn I know pain mgt docs often perscribe methadone and oxy together I believe to help offset the addiction-methadone is essentially a medication used to help stop withdrawls from heroin but has pain-relieving proerties to it.Supposedly without the "high" (although there are plenty here that will attest otherwise). Not sure if this answered your question?Do a little research on the health pages as well as read some of the other posts...there is much to be learned hre so stay with us!
Avatar f tn Sorry, I forgot to ask about methadone for bipolar...I read that methadone can help with this. I'm desparate to help my husband and keep me safe..I don't want to have to file charges against him for threatening me.
Avatar f tn It will be a fight, so dont take it for granted, but you must do it for yourself. The Methadone is just a synthetic opiate that will only prolong your battle and will be even harder to conquer in the end. I hope this helps you make a good decision. I came off of 600-700 mgs a day. Best of luck in your decision. This is just my humble opinion. May God bless you and keep you in your future struggle with this issue.
Avatar n tn I feel like I am on an episode of Mystery Diagnosis. This used to be a minor inconveneince and now it is ruining my life. I also have had big problems with constipation and bowel movements.
Avatar f tn I am really nervous and concerned about taking methadone. I have been without my medication before for a short time and the withdrawal is just brutal...I am very scared thinking I may have to feel this again. Any thoughts would be welcome.
Avatar f tn When you can't sleep from the withdrawals, I've been told that Trazadone is a good choice for sleep because it isn't a controlled substance, etc. What is the story with this medication?
Avatar m tn with opiates, so I felt I should address the former issue I used to have that is not an issue anymore. Further on I have my father who is also on methadone give me my 4 a day in two incriments. I am open and honost with my doctor about this because I feel he needs to know every last thing. Both of my legs from the hip down my thigh have a little pain Nothng I cant take, Some discomfert like nerve twitches, and constant numbness. I can pinh my skin and it feels like I was shot with novicane.
Avatar m tn Methadone is being used legally in the US. All of the pain specialists use it. It is highly addictive and if you must come off of it, you have to wean off slowly with the guidance of a pain specialist. It is highly affective for people who cannot take other opiates and it is relatively inexpensive.
Avatar f tn It is banned in Thailand, Malaysia, Burma and Australia (although these countries grow and export it under license,) It is used as Methadone replacement in New Zealand. It is legal to import it and use in this country though it is currently on the DEA watch list. It is not classed as a narcotic but it hits the same receptors. It is not as euphoric as 'real' opiates unless you are opiate 'naive'. I used it abstemiously after my Methadone/Sub.
1549092 tn?1297046311 Neither Suboxone or Methadone are designed as withdrawal medications if that is what you are asking. One thing the doctor can give you to help ease withdrawal is Clonidine. There are also otc medications and natural supplements that we can recommend.
Avatar f tn m sure there are many medications for MS for different things but I am wondering if MS medication is to eleviate symptoms or to slow down progression?
Avatar f tn I am taking methadone 5 mg tablets 3 times per day and Ultram 100 mg in the morning, 50 mg in the afternoon and 100 mg extended release in the evening. The reason for the mixed up dosage on the ultram is I am trying to get off of the extended release due to the cost. The problem I have is that before when I was taking 100 mg Ultram ER twice a day with the methadone as listed above my pain was controled, but since I have tried going down on it I have pain all the time again.

2107861 tn?1346470646 My question is does anyone if this is the right thing to do? If anyone has ever used these patches please reply with your pros and cons and any other info you may have. Also I have a 8 year old daughter and and a 2 year old chihuahua I worry about it falling off and them touching it!!!!
Avatar m tn I would highly suggest to get your friend some medical help. Anytime a medication is used for another reason other than its intended purpose is of great concern. In a hospital setting, many other narcotic analgesics are used to help the withdrawal symptoms as well as other medications to help 'relax' a person, including benzodiazepines and anticonvulsants (for both alcohol and drug withdrawal) This needs to be monitored directly by health care workers.
1774104 tn?1314215207 Although my doctor and I discuss my NOT telling ANYONE (besides my immediate family) that I was on Methadone because although it is used widely for pain. People have it set in their minds that Methadone is used solely for addicts. I take 40mg of Methadone before I go to bed at night and I am still trying to deal with not HAVING to take anything during the day. But that is mental, I just hope that the Methadone will continue to make the pain better. Do you know how long that usually takes?
Avatar f tn I know this article is very old but just for some knowledge here. Methadone clinics are not for the poor. Most will not accept any insurance and its all out of pocket. I am paying $340.00 a month. I can no longer afford it but to find a doctor to prescribe Methadone is nearly impossible...
1365271 tn?1277918074 If you are travelling Internationally however, you need to check with the embassy of the country you are travelling to, as some medications legal here in the US are not legal in other countries. For example, when I was on Methadone, I had my medication confiscated in Japan, as methadone prescribed or otherwise is not allowed to be brought into Japan. It was a miserable trip to say the least. This is rare however and only heavily controlled substances may be prohibited in certain countries.
6815927 tn?1395511425 I would never recommend Methadone for a Fentanyl taper. Methadone is ten times harder to come off of and comes with lots of side effects. I think if you continue a slow taper with the Fentanly you will have success. What will you be doing for pain management once you come off?
Avatar f tn s tall for his age (95th percentile) so try not to worry. Do what you think is best for you and your baby. But I will say methadone is hard to come off of.
Avatar f tn Knowing it would be a hard month for me with pain but needed time to think about my options. Now im not sure where to go. What are ur thoughts out there about oxycodone and the other oxy. I know one is time released and one is short acting. Will i fall into the same kind of medication withdrawal from the oxy family as i did with the fentanyl?
Avatar n tn If you are having such a hard time of it on the Suboxone then going back on the Methadone may be the best choice for you. Im curious why you transitioned from Methadone to Suboxone in the first place. You wont go into precipitated withdrawals going from Suboxone to Methadone. That only happens going the other way.
