Avatar m tn After recent cath my doctor changed my medication from vytorin ,have taken vytorin for 5 years, to lovastatin. I did ask for a cheaper medicine and lovastatin was what he came with. My engineering background comes out if I d not have proper data.
1817071 tn?1366228243 Statins work by preventing the production of cholesterol in the liver unfortunately they also prevent the production of other materials required for proper muscle function. One of these is Co enzyme Q10 as this is considered a food supplement your Dr, may not be able to prescribe it. Statins do not discriminate between HDL (good cholesterol) and LDL ( Bad cholesterol) and so may reduce both simultaneously.
Avatar f tn I've been taking Lovastatin for 2 months. For the past couple of weeks I've been experiencing aching kidneys and I'm very tired. I had blood work done today for follow up of the drug and notified the doctor that I had this problem. My body temperature is 96.8, which I realize is a bit low, but perhaps normal? Could the achiness be due to the Lovastatin? I'm quite concerned about this and have had kidney problems as a child.
Avatar m tn what is the brand name of sim from ranbaxy? And pl tell me the dosage.
Avatar f tn The higher a food is on the glycemic index, the quicker the blood sugar will rise and the more insulin that must be produced - when that food is not used for energy, it is stored as fat. Ultimately, if not used, the food eaten will cause the blood sugar to continue to rise, which in turn instructs the pancreas to produce more insulin - and it becomes a vicious cycle. This is a very simplified way of explaining the process, but I think you will all get the "gist" of it.

Avatar f tn You did not state which PI you will be using. Here is what I found for Incivek or Victrelis in combo with Pegasys, Ribavirin and Simvastatin. Both PIs are contraindicated.

599170 tn?1300973893 You know, that's great -- I never noticed the small print. These companies are amazing! Actually, here's the lovastatin story. It was actually developed from the study of mushrooms, not red yeast rice, by a Japanese researcher -- many mushrooms traditionally used in oriental medicine also contain natural statins. That researcher invented the pharmaceutical statin, which became lovastatin, making him a very rich man.
Avatar f tn this is known as off labeling...where a drug is intended for one purpose but used for another....in this case insomnia......
Avatar m tn FYI Update...this is for those that might find some similarities with my situation above. I have been off all medications for one week to find out if the Lovastatin is the cause of my Paresthesia. I can say that I am almost 100% symptom free. I no longer have tingling in any part of my body. My left foot never burns anymore and my right foot only burns a slight amount. I can tell with each day that my right foot is burning less and less.
Avatar m tn from all the articles i have found looks like what maters is cellular cholesterol which is quite different from serum cholesterol and i guess also very difficult to measure, i think the type of cholesterol to lower is ldl or the type of cholesterol from which ldl is made.hdl must not be lowered it looks like only liposome which can enter cells directly can lower cellular cholesterol enough to make virus weak but as long as we dont try it in vivo we will not know.
Avatar m tn In summary, presence of cholesterol within the viral envelope is not important for viral binding, but indispensable for the entry process of HBV and might be important for a later step in viral uptake, e.g. fusion in a yet unknown compartment.
Avatar m tn Low cholesterol gives opportunity for virus to replicate? And what is red yeast rice?
Avatar m tn Hello, I am not entirely sure what you meant by "Will me actor help me it says it's the cure for nf1"... Based on your follow-up comment, I guess you are assuming that you have Type 1 neurofibromatosis (NF1) and Mevacor medication can help you...? I don't have any experience with Mevacor (Lovastatin) in my clinical practice, but read some studies about positive effect of Mevacor re verbal and non-verbal LD in children with NF1.
Avatar f tn My brother and I both have this and it is totally under control with meds for both of us. My triglycerides were over 2100 before I started taking Tricor. My brother takes Tricor and Lovastatin. Both of us now have normal readings.
446474 tn?1446347682 While I do think statins may be indicated in several situations and for some patients, I do think the statins are over prescribed. For doctors it is an easy fix and for the patients it seems easy too. Just take a pill and no diet , weight or smoking modifications are needed. I think diet modification and exercise should be tried first. (If one smokes, that should stop.) A doctor wanted to put me on statins about 3 years ago.
Avatar n tn I am 69 and have a calcium score of over 2000. I am on lovastatin and my cholest is 177, hdl 58, ldl 103. I excersize for 45-1hr of light running and walking. 5'10' weighing 160lbs. Has anyone seen these high numbers?
Avatar m tn If you feel it is the Simvastatin, you can always ask your doctor about going off of it for a short while to see if it improves. This is a rare side effect of Simvastatin so I would look elsewhere for the problem. You should speak to your doctor.
1321741 tn?1304530624 HI, Last May I had an ekg with 1 abnormality made an appt with the cardiologist and after a treadmill and echo everything was fine. Now I went to my general physician for my annual check up and my new ekg showed five abnormalities. My general physician told me I need to follow up with a treadmill and echo with the cardiologist is this really needed. I have to pay 20% so it will be very costly to me.
636290 tn?1224186146 Yes I've read about that before and there's been a thread on it in the past. There are studies going on with fluvastatin currently. I know that it stops the replication of the HepC virus and I wonder why it's not being used to assist ppl prior to getting on tx? Maybe it doesn't stop everything as far as the progression of the HepC virus goes, but in my mind something is way better than nothing.
