Common Questions and Answers about What is levothyroxine used for

synthroid

Avatar f tn the doctor said to do citology, is this necessary?? alsow doctor prescribed me levothyroxine, at first 25 mg, then for 2 weeks 50 mg and then 100 mg ,is this right?
705042 tn?1228721787 One part Cytomel and two parts Levothyroxine is not a good balance. The Cytomel is metabolized very quickly and is gone in a few hours. So you are getting overmedicated half the day, and undermedicated half the day. You're going up and down like a yoyo every day, and the chances are pretty good your bloodwork will show you are hyper.
168348 tn?1379357075 Levothyroxine is the generic name for Levothyroxine. :-) Levothroid, Levoxyl, Unithroid, Synthroid, Euthyrox, Tirosint, are all name brand drugs that use levothyroxine as the active ingredient. I've heard of Levo-T, but I'm not sure what that falls under. I'm sure this is only a partial list.
Avatar f tn ve been on that for years since neither generic Levothyroxine and Synthroid worked for me. Another good one is Tirosint, which is a gelcap and contains only glycerine, water, Levothyroxine and gelatin. Tirosint tends to be the most expensive, but the manufacturer has programs for those who qualify. Is TSH the only thyroid related blood test that's being performed regularly? What about Free T4 and Free T3? Those are the actual thyroid hormones.
Avatar n tn Please post her thyroid related lab test results and their reference ranges shown on the lab report. Also, what thyroid med is she taking and what is the daily dosage? Which, if any, of the following symptoms does she have? Fatigue Increased sensitivity to cold (temp. below 98.
Avatar f tn Which tests did you have done for thryoid function? What is the 27? Was that for TSH or was it TPOab? If you are referring only to TSH, then both 27 and 20 would be too high. Do you have the lab report so you could post the thyroid function tests that were run, along with results and lab ranges?
Avatar f tn this is known as off labeling...where a drug is intended for one purpose but used for another....in this case insomnia......
Avatar f tn Levothyroxine is the generic name for the medication. Synthroid, Levoxyl are brand names of the same medication. Some doctors, especially endos, it seems are convinced that the brand names are superior to the generic. Generics can be nmade by any number of manufacturers, and there is no guarantee that the same manufacturer is making your tablets from one refill to the next. The reason cited for preferring brand names is usually "consistency".
Avatar f tn Lets start from the basics. Levothyroxin (a T4 replacement) is for hypo people that need to raise their T4 hormone. Thay may have been diagnosed as 'regular' hypothyroid, or have Hoshimotos hypothyroidism. Or their thyroid may have been medically altered that changed their hyperthyroidism (Graves) to hypothyroid for 'easier' management by hypo thyroid replacement meds.
Avatar f tn Hi I know about TSH and its relationship with T4 and T3 but i was interested to see what values of TSH people on this board feel best at. I have a TSH of 3 at the moment (on levothyroxine) but still feel dreadful.
19622464 tn?1481141180 Levethyroxine is only T4 (synthetic) and should you have T4 to T3 conversion problems, Levothyroxine is not only not helping you, it is making you sicker!!! Ask for Free T3, Free T4 and Reverse T3 tests and please insist you get them. It is of utmost importance to truly know your thyroid function. Let me know your results if you decide for these, when you get them back.
1831920 tn?1320857757 I took topamax before and it made me feel weird, but Celexa i'm not sure about all medications are sort of a trial and error thing, kinda like mascaras lol . You have to find the one that works for you.
9766232 tn?1405758582 Please remember that we are not doctors and are not allowed to tell you what dosages of medications to take. What are the reference ranges for the T3 and T4? Reference ranges vary lab to lab and have to come from your own lab report. Are they Free T3 and Free T4 or are the Total T3 and Total T4? Free and Total tests aren't the same. If at all possible, you should be having the free tests, not the totals, which are considered obsolete and of little value.
7991152 tn?1396061810 I have been on thyroid hormone for 45 yrs. I switched to a generic; levoxyl once for about 2 yrs and never want to do that again. I didn't attribute it to the switch because me loosing my mind didn't happen immediately. I couldn't understand what was wrong, I felt like my mind was not there, not me, crazy. Then read in a pill book that levoxyl had difference dosages of ingredients then Synthroid did. I remember there being significant differences.
299155 tn?1235489269 hello everyone. what exactly is cytomel? my background: on synthroid 125 with a tsh of 0.82. hair loss since first diagnosis in April of 07. I still don't feel like I am where I should be. NO WEIGHT LOSS whatsoever etc. Would cytomel help me feel better? Also, what is the thyroid Pub? Can I join? Thanks.
Avatar f tn FT3 and FT4 are much more important than TSH, especially once on meds. The target for FT4 is about 50% of range. Yours is at 24%. Target for FT3 is 50+% of range, and yours is 16%. So, you are still hypo. It's not unusual for symptoms to worsen a bit or new ones to appear on starting meds. That's partly due to the fact that you are unlikely on a therapeutic dose yet. It looks like you need an increase. How much are you taking now? You had no symptoms prior to meds?
