329165 tn?1515471990 Thanks for all the info, Irene. You are right: I was actually planning on switching to Sotacor/Florinef that I used pre-op, but in the meantime decided to consult my Pharmacist and she also advised me to phone Cardio. Lanoxin is used to treat CHF and Sotacor is a beta-blocker that can worsen CHF. Cardio didn't tell me that I still had CHF so that was a bit of a surprise to me. He actually advised me to add MORE salt to my diet to elevate my BP. I really don't feel well.
Avatar f tn Thank you for your post and information. It is my 88 year old father that has the Afib. He takes Coreg and Amlodipine along with several other medications 13 different meds in all. We had Echogram and also he wore a halter monitor for 24 hours. I don't take him back until next month. His Doctor said he knew this would happen eventually it was just a matter of time. And that he needs the results of the Halter Monitor to confirm his suspicions so that we can treat it.
Avatar n tn Lanoxin should be used with caution if he has excessive calcium. What is his heart beat and blood pressure now?
Avatar n tn If my 2D echo with Doppler showed all normal, what is the cause then of these palpitaitons. Whsat will I do to avoid such worrying palpitations? TYVM and God bless.

Avatar n tn I meant to say Lasix... instead of Lanoxin... Uggghh too many meds to keep track of!!! Thanks for your reply. I am hoping to get a doctor reply on here also as I would be curious to see what they have to say. I have never heard the figure before that 25% of people with cardiomyopathy get better... how is your friend doing? Again, thanks for taking the time to reply!
329165 tn?1515471990 Can anyone tell me what is this Pro-BNP test and if 218 is high? GP is conserned and whant to send me back to Hospital and I don't want to go, unless there is something wrong. Current symptoms: still have pains (both breasts and middle/sternum area) dizzy, irregular heartbeat (at times 30 miss beats/extra systoles per minute), palpitations when I climb steps/urinate (had these symptoms pre-op), fast HR low BP. Please help. I am going nuts here.
390388 tn?1279636213 after speaking with the supervisor at the insurance company they are going to do an override to allow the lanoxin to be filled... but of course he said it may not go through until tomorrow morning.. luckily her pharmacy will give her what she needs. what amazes me here is that had i had not seen this post today i would not have known about this... this is a class 1 recall there is nothing on my local news stations broadcasts or on any of their websites..
Avatar n tn The 20% you refer to is the amount of blood pumped out of the left ventricle into circulation with each heartbeat. Normal is 50 to 70% and medically referred to as ejection fraction (EF). If the left ventricle is overworked by pumping against high resistance, i.e. high blood pressure, increased volume, etc.
162069 tn?1224677411 we got her ef number back last week and we are happy to report that it is now up to 48% This is the highest it has been since her initial diagnosis of dilated cardiomyopathy three years ago. At the time of diagnosis it was 32%. It seems that the addition of digoxin to her regimen is what has done the trick, as it has significantly lowered her amount of SVT pac's are still very frequent, but as long as her ef is improved I am a very happy camper....
Avatar n tn I have a question. Are drugs in the benzo family ever used to treat seizures? As in Xanax, Klonopin, Valium, Ativan, Restoril, etc? I have simple partial seizures and was on xanax on an "as needed" basis to control some nervousness about going back to college. I was on it for about 2 months. I started realizing I got less of my sensory and motor seizures which have always been uncontrollable since I started getting them back in 2000.
Avatar n tn amiodarone is, from what i understand, a very powerful antiarrythmic with serious side effects... i know that my daughters cardiologist at the univ of mich had told us when they put her on lanoxin that the risks of amiodarone in her case made her not a good candidate for it. i do know that many have taken it for short periods and it seemed to help, but i believe it generally not taken long term as lanoxin or digoxin is hope my little bit helps and good luck....... dawn p.s.
Avatar f tn My mother is on coreg .325 and docs just took her off of lanoxin hoping that is causing platelet drop, they aren't sure yet. today heart rate at 142 bpm at rest. All this started happening feb 21. before that heart rate around 100. The problem with more coreg or other beta blockers is the fact her bp too low 96 over 50 the majority of the time. I am soo scared for her, lanoxin prevents heart attack yet it could be the cause of very low platelets and she could bleed to death. catch 22.
Avatar f tn The heart gets enlarged from the over workload and due to high blood pressure. EF of 46% is much better than what you had at 20%, but normal is far higher. You still should get enough rest and not overwork yourself. I would definitely try to avoid any stressful environment if you can. Make sure that you are taking your medications as prescribed by your doctor. The medications really helps and are best.
Avatar f tn I recently noticed increasing lethargy and fatigue. I’m used to tired..it’s my normal, this is different. I told my specialist and he ordered a blood test which came back as double normal value for heart failure. He ordered an echo to see if my EF was normal or low to determine what kind of treatment I can have. I left hospital before the echo results were given to my Doc so I have to wait until my next appt in three weeks time.
Avatar n tn Thursday my female 10 lb. 2 year old Japanes chin was lethargic and not eating. She was givin Reglan and Pepcid at the clinic. Friday still lethargic not eating and had a fever. Friday she had blood work and xrays. Everything was normal except slightly anemic. Also a questionable gas pattern and a dark area in the stomach on xray. was given fluids, baytril injection, and ampicillan injection. Went home with bayrtil prescribed once a day and probiotic, still on pepcid.
1353213 tn?1277008115 the doctor prescribe lanoxin and aldazide to treat his CGF. he is 8 months now and weighs 5.7kg. in his echocardiogram his LV is enlarge grossly.
Avatar f tn Atenolol is a lot safer than the digoxin (Lanoxin) they used to use to treat cardiac arrythmias. One common side affect that many people compain of when using beta-blockers (atenolol) is fatigue. Taking any medication for a long period of time poses an increasing risk. I would strongly consider catheter ablation though. It is a very simple procedure.
Avatar n tn Left ventricle functionality should be preserved subsequent to CABG and valve replacement. There is often is no improvement of the EF if it was abnormal before the surgery...surgery is oftened contraindicated for a patient with low EF. Heart failure is an EF 29% or below. Six years ago, I was in ICU for several days with congested heart failure. The EF was 13-29% and blood backed up into the lungs causing edema (shortness of breath, dry cough, fast heart rate).
Avatar n tn Well, you should NEVER stop medication on your own without notifying your doctor. Do you have a mood disorder or bipolar? That is really important to treat. Talk to your doctor. Seroquel works well instead of Abilify as you know (why did you change?) but there are others in the same class of drugs as well that are good medications. There are several to choose from. Seroquel is one and if it worked before, no reason to change. But that is between you and your doctor.
Avatar m tn SEROQUEL is approved to treat the depressive episodes and the acute manic episodes in bipolar disorder and to treat schizophrenia. SEROQUEL XR is a once daily tablet approved only to treat schizophrenia Antidepressants have increased the risk of suicidal thoughts and actions in some children, teenagers, and young adults.
