Common Questions and Answers about What is evista used for

evista

Avatar n tn Is there any drug interaction between these two drugs ? I am taking Evista for Osteoporosis.
Avatar f tn I wondered about the connection between Evista and Ovarian cysts which have also been mentioned "together". However upon further researching and talking with my Gyn., no real correlation has been found. Also, Evista is an Estrogen "blocker" . It has been shown actually to prevent some types of breast cancer..I was placed on Evista 8 years ago after some suspicious mammograms , which fortunately turned out to be nothing.
Avatar f tn he said I am cancer free right now, but a high risk of getting breast cancer so he is recommending this medication Evista. Of course there are side effects now what medication doesn't have any side effects right.Has anyone taken this medication of Evista an had bad side effects or has seen great results in preventing getting breast cancer? My prayers go out to all of you going threw treatment right now or who were just diagnosed.
Avatar n tn This to my knowledge is not a side effect of this type of drug. You might discuss it with your Oncology Team at your next appointment. I would doubt that a side effect would appear after months of administration. As a rule side effects appear during the first few weeks and often subside after a few months. This may be due to something entirely unrelated to your Cancer situation so you might take it up with your Primary care Physician. Regards .....
Avatar f tn Can anyone tell me what this means? I understand that my samples shows ADH and LCIS. What are the other things? What are they looking for in the excision biopsy? Thank you to all of you. You have made this stressful time bearable.
492490 tn?1255405372 As I have only been on Carbo/Taxol (6 cycles), Taxol (maintenance 9 mo, failed) and Gemzar for 9 months and recently failed that too. What is the next best option for a 44 yr old, stage lllc patient? Any suggestions? Thanks so much!
Avatar f tn to be tollerable. Now I start Evista for lcis and osteoporosis. That is supposed to cause flashes. My doc says Effexor and Clonidine will help flashes. I do not want to take Effexor, and Clonidine may lower my blood pressure too much since I am already on two blood pressure meds. I will try the Evista and if get flashes again, I may just stop. I read magnesium helps, so I tried. It did help quite a bit, but unfortunately, if you take enough, you get diarrhea. Some choice.
Avatar n tn Hi again, In addition to all the good information zouzi provided, IF you are postmenopausal, there is a second drug, Evista, that has also been approved for prevention of invasive breast cancer. It is also used to reduce the risk of spinal fractures related to osteoporosis, which is a plus for some women. (It was during studies of the use of Evista to treat osteoporosis that researchers noticed that among post-menopausal women who took the drug there was a lower rate of invasive breast cancer.
Avatar f tn How long should a woman stay on Evista if no negative side affects?
Avatar f tn this is known as off labeling...where a drug is intended for one purpose but used for another....in this case insomnia......
Avatar f tn Don't be surprised if your oncologist sort of thinks out aloud, and will bring up different thoughts over time. You see, they all don't know for sure what is best. Like mine debated between Aromatose inhibitors and Tamoxifen at first, then this last time he said maybe I should have my ovaries removed and switch..but then he thought the way it is OK. I just want to reassure you it's normal.
Avatar f tn I think, in your case it truly is a matter of knowing how badly your bone density loss is, and if your risk factors for the side effect risks of serious health concerns are increased for any reason other than the suggested link to a possibility of cancers/stroke etc. If you have cancer risks in your family, your risk is obviously elevated. If you have a family history of heart disease, your risk for stroke is also elevated, and therefore your need to adjust for those risks accordingly.
340734 tn?1256586262 Get that port put in!!! It really is the way to go, Chemo is really hard on the veins and the port makes things go so much easier. Also get a power port put in. That way you can use it for CT scans too. The procedure is easy and it doesn't hurt.
Avatar f tn Atypical ductal hyperplasia (ADH) is a medical condition in which the cells which line the milk ducts of the breasts experience abnormal growth. This condition is not cancerous, but an incidence of atypical ductal hyperplasia can indicate an increased cancer risk for a woman. As a result, doctors usually recommend careful monitoring and follow-up in patients who have exhibited atypical ductal hyperplasia in one or both breasts.

Avatar n tn A Schmorl's node is an upward and downward protrusion of a spinal disk's soft tissue into the bony tissue of the adjacent vertebrae Schmorl's nodes are detectable with an x-ray test as a spine abnormality Schmorl's nodules typically do not require extensive treatment. However, pain relief due to Schmorl's nodules is usually relieved through rest and/or by going to a doctor who can use his/her hands to manipulate the bones surrounding the spine.
Avatar n tn I've been reading up on the interent and I am frightened for my health. This afternoon, I was struggling, and I took four Dulcolax pills. I took two yesterday. I have been having loose bowels and slight abdominal discomfort as well as feeling dizzy and faint. Should I worry about taking the four? How would I know if I needed to get to an emergency room?
Avatar m tn There are some medications that are used to treat breast cancer that can be tried, though they would be used off label. These include tamoxifen (Soltamox) and raloxifene (Evista), here in the U.S. Another is Danazol. I don't know if they would be available in your country or not. Some of these drugs are quite potent and may have unwanted side effects. Be sure to discuss all of that with your doctor prior to taking them. The other option is the surgery.
Avatar f tn My husband and I have been married for almost two years. We are very much in love, we enjoy each others company, and we have a solid commitment to our marriage. The problem has been our sex life. Both of us were virgins when we got married. Although my husband has been an extremely passionate lover, from the very first night of our honeymoon, sex has been an ordeal for us. Sometimes it works and other times it doesn't.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with Atypical Lobular Hyperplasia as the result of an ultrasound guided needle biopsy where they took 7 tissue samples. Now, it has been advised that I proceed to a surgical biopsy at the end of this month. I'm a nervous wreck as my mom and her cousin have both had breast cancer (at the ages of 67 & 69). I've been told that 25% of these cases are positive for breast cancer which means that 75% are not and I am trying to focus on that number primarily.
