Avatar m tn ive been on and off escitalopram for the past 3 years...ie once I feel better I go off of it..sooooo here I am about to take it again..should I start off taking it in the morning, afternoon or night? What works best for everyone else starting off... I have felt relief on just 5 mg before within the first week... Should I start with 2.5? Has anyone had an interaction with escitalopram and nexus 24 hr? Thanks all!
Avatar f tn In my experience, prozac has been used more for depression than anxiety. Escitalopram (celexa) is one of the better medications for anxiety & depression. As CJ said above, a lower dose of escitalopram does not mean it's less effective. You're already taking the right steps to get better. You're on a waitlist to see a counsellor and yes 6 weeks seems like a long time but it will fly by.
Avatar f tn I have been taking Escitalopram 10mg (aka Cipralex / Lexapro) for 31 days today. For this past week Ive been having repeated very bad morning anxiety/ morning terror. I wake up in a state of panic, palpitations, difficulty breathing, hot flashes, feeling of extreme terror, and I'm afraid to start my day. This sometimes continues for 3-4 hours and improves gradually if I take my Seroquel 100mg. But some days it continues until I go to bed.
Avatar n tn The medication that you are on is from a class of drugs called Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (or SSRIs for short). Lexapro--generic name escitalopram--is a medication that is prescribed for & quite effective at treating depression and anxiety disorders. It is often recommended that anti-depressant agents be continued for a period of at least 1 year, even if you now feel fine, in order to prevent relapse back into a depressive state.
19965699 tn?1487511518 I am currently taking 400 mg of gabapentin 3x a day along with, Metformin 500 mg 1 a day, Tripilix 135 mg 1 time daily, Tizanidine 4 mg 3 times daily, Diclofnac 50 mg 3 times daily, Nexium 40 mg 1 time daily, trazadone 25 mg 1 time at bed (for sleep), and escitalopram 10 mg 1 at bed, ibuprofin 600 mg as needed, and sumatriptan 25 mg as needed ft or migraines, I have looked up every drug interaction with gabapentin and found all safe to take except for my anitdepressent escitalopram 20 mg once
Avatar m tn 1 mixture of (S)-Citalopram and (R)-Citalopram]; Escitalopram [(S)-Citalopram) is a pure enantiomer. The dosages for Escitalopram are typically 1/2 of those for Citalopram, and there are fewer side effects, suggesting that most side effects come from the (R)-enantiomer.'' Basically escitalopram is the new citalopram with less side-effects and requires only half the dosage and I think it is the reason for it's cheaper price. -http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar m tn In my opinion, you are taking WAY too many different medications. Sometimes, "more" is not always better. If it was working for you, then I would say..."great, keep doing what you're doing", but obviously the regimen you're on isn't effective. I would discuss that you are still struggling with a high level of anxiety with your MD, and even seek a 2nd opinion about your meds/condition.
Avatar f tn It has now been five weeks since I took the last dose of that Escitalopram. My question is, is it possible that my brain chemistry is still returning to normal after just six days on the medication? According to what I have read, the drug should have been out of my system after just one week but I am still experiencing mental anxiety and racing thoughts that I never had until I started on the medication.
Avatar f tn Hello and welcome to the forum. Thank you for your question. Questions regarding medication are best discussed with your doctor as they prescribe the medication and know your particular situation. What is your specific issue with insomnia? Rozerem seems to be best used for those who don't fall asleep easily. Is that your situation? It works on melatonin and is not supposed to be habit forming which is a great benefit. https://www.medicinenet.com/rozerem/article.
Avatar f tn i have recently been perscribed 10mg Escitalopram to treat my general anxiety disorder, as well as underlying depression i have, i was just wondering if anybody knoes of any herbal substances i can take along with the Escitalopram to help me sleep as at the moment my sleep pattern is all over the place, and it makes me feel lowsy all day , any herbal sleep enchancement tablets available from the pharmacy without perscription state to not take if you are on any type of anti depressant medication
Avatar n tn Your best and most accurate advice will come form your physician. Lexapro is escitalopram and Celexa is citalopram and as you see from these generic names they are similar but not the same. One difference is that Celexa is available in generic form and Lexapro is not which means theoretically generic Celexa (generic form) should be less costly. Lexapro and Celexa are not interchangeable, and they are not approved for all of the same uses. Both are approved for the treatment of depression.
553096 tn?1267348927 In the U.S., escitalopram is branded as ‘Lexapro’, a SSRI antidepressant. Doctors here routinely prescribe this drug (along with other brands) to help manage mood changes secondary to interferon treatment for Hep C. I was prescribed this drug prophylactically (before treatment) about three years ago, and recently stopped. I have not experienced any of the side effects mentioned above, either during use or afterwards. Based on my own experience, I would recommend it if needed.
Avatar m tn I do not believe 25 mgs of Zoloft caused you to suffer from serotonin syndrome. Escitalopram is a good med as is Zoloft. You only took the Zoloft for one day so there will be no problem with changing meds. You should, however expect side-effects. They should subside within a couple of weeks, but be prepared and don't give up too soon. Good luck!
1166402 tn?1303847056 s best that you talk this over with your doctor so the two of you can decide what is best for you and your needs. Take care.
Avatar f tn This drug is for the GAD, but not if it's just for the insomnia. If it helps with the GAD it will apparently help with the insomnia, but antidepressants aren't sleep aids. As the above suggests, melatonin is for sleep. A lot of people are put on drugs that have an unwanted side effect of making people sleepy, but that doesn't make it a good choice for sleeplessness.
Avatar m tn When it comes to mental health there can be different diagnoses so good luck. For anxiety i take clonazepam and it is very helpful for anxiety and and that general feeling of malaise.
Avatar m tn i'm posting a question asking for your medical advice as i've suffered from long term depression since i was 18 as i'm now 38 going through various medication regimes throughout that time. I've previously been on mostly SSRI's ie prozac and seroxat, with in addition dosuphin and amtitrypline. Prozac and seroxat worked well with me for some time until they "pooped out" on me.
Avatar f tn this is known as off labeling...where a drug is intended for one purpose but used for another....in this case insomnia......
Avatar n tn t go away and is more than you can handle while waiting for the month or so it takes for the drug to start working in the beneficial sense, then this isn't the right drug for you. Another factor here is how well a particular person absorbs a drug -- if you absorb it poorly, it won't work, but you also won't get much in the way of side effects from it.
