This makes clinical trials much easier and allows for off-label use by hepatologists. Interestingly, the U.S. and Europe have given up on making recommendations for a one size fits all approach to hypertension. There is now more focus on treating hypertension while taking into consideration other comorbidities.

I think after this month, that will be 3 months on losartin(cozaar), I will see how my blood work is then add vasotec to the cozaar wait 3 months check my blood work and make a decision on dropping cozaar for vasotec. It was first published as far as I can see that losartan reduces fibrosis in 2000, that sure seems much to long a time lag between discovery and clinical use and I'm sure it is that way across medicine.

I have recently stopped taking Coreg 6.25ng and started on Cozaar 50mg to manage my blood pressure which is working out really great according to measurements. I was weaned from Coreg by taking just my dosage at night and skipping the morning one for two weeks and then to stop. Since about a week after I cut down to once a day I started to notice a constant pounding heart.

I don't have EDS, but my aortic root is at the high end of normal, and I might have some mild degree of connective tissue problem (not enough of anything for a diagnosis), but the enlarging of my aorta was completely stopped by taking max dose of valsartan (similar to cozaar (ARB)). Many other people I know w/ connective tissue problems like MFS have had the same results, or aortic shrinkage. I have not yet heard of anyone taking a proper dose of ARB and continuing aortic enlargement.

My MD put me on Hyzaar for hypertension. Previously I had been on Cozaar but she changed it to Hyzaar for the added benefit of the diuretic. I noticed my drug company autosubbed generic Losortan. The bottle doesn't say anything about hydrochlorothiazide being included. Could I be getting the wrong thing, or should I assume some form of hydrochlorothiazide is included?

Sorry, the Walgreen brand is not Cozaar (that is the alias for Losartan). It might be Merck. In any case, I have canceled my Apotex order and going to order from Walgreens again as an experiment.

Just wanted to know if losartan(Cozaar) is the best option for an alcoholic with gout and high blood pressure? Of course, the best scenario would be to completely delete alcohol out of the equation, but it is not an option at this time for the person involved.

this is known as off labeling...where a drug is intended for one purpose but used for another....in this case insomnia......

There are studies going on at Johns Hopkins concerning cozaar to see if it can stop or reverse the growth of aortas, which it has done in mice. My son has taken Cozaar and his beta blocker for three years and his aorta has not grown wider...so this is good news!

and Ambien for sleep. Am concerned that what I am taking, or increasing anything, will cause further interference with getting stabilized. I feel like anything I try to do for myself results in adding additional problems, and it is becoming confusing and frightening. Any feedback on this subject is welcome....

Before I had my mitral valve repaired in 2002 the ventricale had enlarged to about where it is now and the cozaar brought it back to within normal limits for a year or so, maybe it will work again but in any event I think I am going to push for surgery. Putting it off for an extra year is really just prolonging what is bound to happen and might make things worse. I just hope permenant damage has not already occurred.

Cozaar is what my husband is taking for regular heart rate due to a past heart attack. However, it has side effects of chronic lack of energy and the big one of erectile dysfunction. What are some other alternatives?

I do take 20 Lasix every other day..............what types of tests are needed for this? Is it just a matter of finding the proper drug combination? I need to get this settled as I feel like a ticking time bomb with numbers running this high........I'm 78.....thanks for any input!

Pulse rate 37 this morning prior to medication. Usually Pulse is 39/42. Has been for years. Athlete when young may explain low pulse to some extent. Clearly, BP 165/85 too high still. Plan to take a herbal treatment claimed to cure Atrial Fibrillatiion. That high BP, suggestions please?
