What is clonidine used for

Common Questions and Answers about What is clonidine used for

catapres

i have never used clonidine but it's suppose to be for high BP and also can be used for anxiety from what i've read. I am on a diff med for high BP. Good luck and hope it works for you! i've read that it helps alot of people calm down thru WDs.
second, my doctor prescribed two clonidine patches for me for any withdrawl symptoms. What do these do ? my doc said it woud basically knock me out...love that of course... but, i am hesitant because i had never heard of it... i know it is a little strange for a prescription lover to be afraid of a new drug...weird. but, i would like to hear about some experiences with people who have tried it before. Thank you so much.
This is untrue-clonidine is becoming more and more widely used for anxiety, especially anxiety related to PTSD, cPTSD, ATD, and other forms of anxiety of trauma-related etiology--especially panic and nightmares.
) My friend also gave me something called Dicyclomine and said I might be able to use that as well.. anyone know what it is? Most importantly tho - just wondering how much Clonidine to take.. Thanks you!!
you know when you are going through w/d and you feel like your blood is racing through your body - it is, your bp is high a lot of the time during w/d. clonodine slows everything in your body down and makes you tired/calm/more relaxed. thta's about it. it definitely helps to have it during any w/d or detox in the begining and i would assume it would be fine with the thomas recipe - as that uses natural supplements that should be fine with the clonidine - but ask a dr if you can.
meds if your friends has been clean for 1 month and herion was the only drug he was taking the acute wd phase should be over the clonidine could be causing him to be sick, take him to cvs, wallgreens, find a blood pressure machine, see where he is it is very hard for addcits to take self administer clonidine our need for more can get us in trouble with this drug
anyone have any info on using Clonidine .1 mg for opiate withdrawal systems? Suppose to be a high blood pressure medication, but says it can be used for withdrawal systems too? wondering if it really works?
u can skip the next dose or only take 1/2 if it is not time released...what was ur doc and dose per day? Clonidine is usually reserved for very high intake///strong drugs like heroin or very large doses of oxy....low blood pressure is a concern..
The main use for this medication is used to treat high blood pressure. It works by stimulating certain brain receptors (alpha adrenergic type) which results in the relaxing of blood vessels in other parts of your body, causing them to widen. Clonidine is typically available as tablets (Catapres, Dixarit), as a transdermal patch (Catapres-TTS), or as an injectable form to be given epidurally, directly to the central nervous system.
thxs for the reply I'm taking.
Some vit/min you can take at night to help relax the muscles and such and some during the day for Energy..Do some homework and find which one you take for what. There are tons of natural ways to detox with out meds, but I would highly recommend the BP med right now. Just know that the physical detox will be over soon..It is dealing with the mental and staying clean that takes the cake..Just take it day by day and get that Support.
WIkipedia says clonidine is good for reducing sweats and general "unease", but the patient must withdraw carefully from it too, in order to avoid rebound hypertension. Has anyone had experience with this? Did you experience the rebound hypertension after using clonidine? I'm considering asking my doctor for this drug because I'm still experiencing w/d symptoms after 2 weeks w/d. I've not slept for four days, too. Thanks for your help.
it does help more than i can describe, i think it is a miracle drug for wd's. i took it for 10 days, then tapered for 3, it is not addictive, but you have to taper to avoid rebound high BP...nothing physical felt. especially with the length of time you MIGHT be looking at for withdrawals...
my husband takes .1 mg 2x a day for now. Obviously that may not be what is best for you and your situation but thought I'd throw it out there anyway lol. Oh and we have three kids too lol, two in school one at home! I can relate to your situation :). I was in your husbands shoes and well I still am lol. This site and the people here have been amazing to say the least. I've made new friends, I've learned a ton and I have support. Invite your hubby here, everyone is super nice here!
Thanks Jim .So it helps alot for withdrawals? What Ihope is to be so tuired and oblivious when I am detoxing.
In every story i have read about Clonidine being used for withdraw, the addict was only prescribed .1mg twice or three times a day. I was prescribed 15- .1mg Clonidine every 12hrs and 15- .25mg Xanax every 6hrs as needed. It was a tremendous help as far as the anxiety goes. I'd been through withdraws MANY times, and i really feel like these were a huge help in getting me through that first week. I wish i had a few more Xanax, but i made it without. I agree with bmdad...
L-theanine is a amino acid used for relaxation.. its like herbal valium.. YOu could try that with the melatonin to re set your sleep clock.. worth a shot right?? It can't hurt.. it worked for me.. and I was even detoxing... keep me posted..
I have the clonidine patch for high BP, and change it once a week. Clonidine is for people with high BP, but its not only for high BP, it is also prescribed for people who want to withdraw from either cigarettes or certain drugs and alcohol. It is also prescribed for women who suffer from hot flashes.
hi and welcome to the forum...clonadine is a B/P med it is used for its side effects during withdrawals it will give you some relief form the creepy crawly feeling it will also help control the blood presure spikes common with detoxing...also for some it makes you tired this would have been a lot more helpful 5 days ago for you but if your symptoms are lingering it could help ...good luck and God bless....
clonidine is used for many different things: high blood pressure, excessive sweating, adhd, tourettes, restless leg syndome, migranes, bad menstration, flushing related to menopause, methadoneand opiatedetox, withdrawal from alcoholand benzodiazepines/valium.clonidine by epidural injection has been used to treat cancer pain.
1mg on clonidine this morning. It is not hleping. For those who have used clondine for help with wd, what was your dosing amount? Is .1mg a low amount? Should that be helping her at this point? Does anyone know the usually dosing amounts to help for severe wd or what the max allowable for clonidine? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
By itself one pill 2 times a day, I don't think clonidine is very effective and feels strange. When used in combo with other detox meds as a sleep cure, it works wonders. all the best.
IT IS A BLOOD PRESSURE MEDICINE, that has been used ALOT FOR EASING THE W/D SYMPTOMS.. I had them give me a ptch one time in the ER when I went in telling them I was addicted to oxycodone.. But when I put it on after being in SEVERE w/d for like 2 1/2 days straight then my mom was giving me some 10mg vicodin to help the w/d.. So I cant be sure if it ever really helped or not.. Then I found more pills and took it off after that..
I would NOT take any other blood pressure meds for this.. Clondine has been used for decades for withdrawals.. i would not supplement just any med for this.. if you really want it go to the ER or a urgent care center if you regular doc won't prescribe it.. Also i am a smoker and i took clondine. don't think that matters.. you just don't want to take it if you don't have hypertension..
Hi marcatj..how has the clonidine done for you so far? I used it myself and have suggested it many times on here. I saw that you were using it and was womndering if it had done as well for you as it had for me??
i have high blood pressure (and clonidine is a blood pressure med), but my doctor is mainly prescribing it for me as a SLEEP AID to try to keep me off of the benzos for sleep purposes (which have always worked so well for me!)....i'm curious about two things though.....one, how much has anyone taken strictly for sleep purposes? and two, have you had ANY problems stopping it if you want/need to?
Question for those taking Clonidine.... I'm having a hard time acquiring Clonidine, I'm in Canada and the manufacturer cannot supply my pharmacy whith what I need, I have to have the 0.025mg pills so I can combine them to take 0.050mg three times a day and 0.075mg at bed time, the last prescription they could only supply me with 0.2mg tablets, so I have to cut them into 4's to get the 0.050mg dosis, I still have some 0.
Just so you know, there will be some withdrawal if you take it for a long time, but it's not a pill that is abused. It is used for menopause and night sweats and to sleep (insomnia) off label. I read up a bunch on it when I started it. I took it for a few days before I started withdrawal, and then through Day 5 (today). I took my last one this morning. They also make it in .2 and .3mg. But, start small and work your way up. Later!
clonidine is a blood pressure med that is used extensively for detox also... they help with the withdrawal symptoms greatly... the anxiety, sleeplessness, and overall comfort... I can really feel it if I miss a dose and am in the WD's. It's the first thing I recommend! It is not addictive at all as far as I know??? Help me people on this if I am wrong... Next I would recommend ativan which can be addictive but in a way lessor sense than the opiates.
