What is clarithromycin used for

Common Questions and Answers about What is clarithromycin used for

biaxin

Is it okay to use clarithromycin for an infection in the root of my tooth (an abcess). Will it work? I was given a prescription (500mg -20) from someone that hadn't been used yet and i've only taken 2 because it leaves such a bad taste in my mouth. If it is useful for my infection then I will suffer the taste & nausea and continue on with my 3rd dose.
If, for example Clarithromycin (which is one of the antibiotics to treat H. Pylori) has been used in someone several times to treat upper respiratory infections, would this make H. Pylori resistant to this antibiotic? Or, how can I be sure that I don't have a resistant strain of H. Pylori, or which antibiotic will kill this bacteria? Also, what are your thoughts on using chloromycetin to treat stomach/intestinal infections, when other antibiotics are found to be ineffective?
Treating the infection helps reduce the risk of the ulcer returning. Amoxicillin is a penicillin-type antibiotic and clarithromycin is a macrolide-type antibiotic. They work by stopping the growth of bacteria. The antibiotics in this product treat only bacterial infections. I can understand why your mom is skeptical but this is a very serious condition that must be addressed right away. If left untreated serious life threatening conditions can develop.
I used clarithromycin, doxycycline, dexilant, and pepto to kill mine.
Plaquenil is often perceived as an anti-arthritis drug used to treat connective tissue disorders. What it does is make the body more alkaline. My doc explained that he prescribes it with Biaxin (Clarithromycin-an intracellular abx) because by making the body more alkaline, the Biaxin can more easily penetrate the body's cells, which makes it up to 40% more effective. There is the common belief that inflammation causes pain.
What DeltaDawn said is important. The adrenaline from a local anestethic can increase blood adrenaline levels about 5-10 times, and when you add the natural effect of the fact that no one like going to the dentist, you can end up with fairly high adrenaline levels. The numbers look dramatic, but also keep in mind that adrenaline levels are highly variable.
From what my LLMD and LLND told me, the Bb spirochetes are never totally eradicated even once treatment is done. My LLMD and LLND said that once a patient is asymptomatic for 3 months they stop treatment and the belief is that your own immune system has been built back up enough to continue the fight on its own, as it does with other bacteria on a daily basis. I know there are some of you who don't agree with that.
As I sit thinking today what I know for a fact is that each episode only occurs between 2am and 5am. Now if it where my heart I don't think it would wait between these hours to act up so I feel a little better with this rationalization. However, I did come up with the fact that this is about the time that the Prilosec is wearing off, even though it's supposed to be delayed release I notice that it usually only lasts me about 8 hours. Also this is when my stomach is empty.
With few exceptions, most of you will have either increased stress (out of the ordinary), a history of eating later than normal, or drinking alcohol later in the evening. Sudden weather fluctuations such as pressure or humidity changes is another common trigger.
(grin) Another factoid-----taking blood serum tests for mg and ca do NOT reflect what is in the body. An ND once had me do a blood test for the minerals in my body. Mg. and ca. were low even though I ate well and took supplements. I was confused and went to the Internet and pubmed to find answers. File under: Something doctors don't always tell you.
Well, had to see my doctor today to get more clarythromycin, which he's happy to keep me on for at least eight weeks to see what the effect is. When I mentioned aspirin sensitivity, and noted I have it (but from decades ago), he went straight to salicylate sensitivity and the options of (a) avoiding and (b) desensitisation, saying he could send me to a nutritionist or immunologist.
Weisbrun (Wisconsin) are infectious disease doctors who know Lyme for what it really is. I believe Donta is still practicing. I don't know if Weisbrun is. If you can't get what you need from Dr. J., you could check out these docs and ask if they're willing to certify disability for a patient who has Babesia and probable Lyme.
Thanks for the heads up on what to look out for. Good to hear your chemo is coming to an end soon, i guess that means the cancer will be gone? I'm gonna read up on johns hopkins to findout info on that, never heard about him.
So, all this means that it is a medical logistics nightmare! What works for one may not work for another and vice-versa. Cheers. Niko P.S. Go to the coconut research center website for information on virgin coconut oil which is: antifungal! antiprotozoic! antiparasitic! antiviral! antibacterial! it may help with constipation issues and if you use it for "oil pulling" daily, it will rid your salivary glands and oral cavity of BILLIONS of harmful bacteria and toxins.
But you have your theory, so you see a person die in your environment, and within the context of that theory, you make it fit well. You have a negative MRI showing no MS, good for you, but what other tests did you have? There is much more to test before getting to find a conclusion yourself. I am not saying that a relation between your legs and a flu is impossible, it would be only considering this autoimmune theory. But how possible is that?
Hi, I have finaly been diagnosed with Laryngeal spasms, i too had had these choaking fits which always happened when i was fast asleep, very frightening. I was tested for sleep Apneoa anthis is how they found out what I had.
I was prescribed antibiotic, “Gen-Clarithromycin 500 mg”. I took it for about 15 days. I must mention here that for the first week while I am taking it, it was thinning-up the sputum but it made my chest to feel uncomfortable. In fact, I feel like my case is worsened a lot upon finishing this antibiotic prescription! Talking about the tests, the doctor told me that I seem to have some deficiency in iron level in my blood. I was given a puffer (Flovent HFA 250 mcg).

Now, at present, a couple of months ago when one doctor tried to give me clarithromycin for a bacterial infection that could be used for, I got the same symptoms as in May 2002 (specially the more bloated stomach problem). Of course, after these experiences, I try to avoid clarithromycin by telling the doctors about the bad reactions that I've had. Stomach antrum biopsies from endoscopies have been tested for HP infection with the CLOTEST method and have always became negative.
erythromycin, minocycline and sulphamethoxazole) has demonstrated poor efficacy and high relapse rates. (Tigecycline is a derivative of Minocycline – see previous) Clarithromycin is active against most strains of M. abscessus, and current expert opinion recommends clarithromycin monotherapy for localised cutaneous disease, and combination therapy including clarithromycin and parenteral agents for treatment of disseminated infection, pulmonary infection or extensive cutaneous disease.
At that time I did not realize why this happen to me! I also still remember that for couple of days after that day I used to see a little blood coming out from my bottom after defecating. I was absolutely ignorant about how dangerous asbestos is. I just realized the danger when the employer told us that asbestos was found in that place and they were not aware of it! We were told that our exposure is low as far as the occupational exposure limit is concerned.

Generally metronidazole is used in combination with Clindamycin or Clarithromycin. I think you should discuss these possibilities with your doctor. Take care!
According to the article, a Doctor Juha Sinisalo of Helsinki University treated 148 heart patients for 85 days with 500 mg/day of clarithromycin. Clarithromycin is a type of antibiotic called a macrolide. Over three months, 11 patients receiving the antibiotic suffered heart attacks, unstable angine or death compared to 19 in the control group. In addition, in the 1.5 years of followup, those who got antibiotics were half as likely to suffer another heart related complication.
First of all, my heart goes out to you on this devastating problem. What happened 4 weeks ago? Something is irritating your airway. Obviously, smoking or living with a smoker (of anything) is out. The weather now is cold and wet. Has your environment been checked for fungus. Look for black walls, condensation on/around windows, etc. Whatever the cause, you must strengthen your immune system above all. Antibiotics weaken your immune system.
my LLMD told me that some test came back indicating a microscopic parasite which is why he added the plaquenil. He said that is what is used to erradicate it. He also said like you know parasites can cause symptoms similiar to lyme like tingling, etc. So we'll see. I was on a three day course of flagyl and it made me herx bad and had really awful dreams. what will the new regimen be for you?
I was on Biaxin, which is brand name for clarithromycin. Why did your MD not check the box for generic, which is generally a lot cheaper but is technically the same drug? It's a fairly common drug. If you order online from a reputable/well-known website, you may be able to get a better price than at the corner pharmacy. If you belong to WalMart or perhaps Target or similar stores, I understand their pharmacy charges are quite reasonable.
