what is anastrozole used for

Now endo is suggesting that in order to give him more time to grow, we give him Anastrozole. I have seen lot of posts and spent hours on the forums wherever I found mention of advanced bone age/Anastrozole/Letrozole. It seems there are quite a few posts under Pediatric Endo forum but not able to find any answers if any parents tried Anastrozole/Letrozole and what has been their experience regarding delaying bone age and side effects.

I know this is used in breast cancer pts but what is it used for in ovca pts? My recent PET/CT scan did not show any recurrent disease.

m not exactly sure what it is. I had an elderly aunt who was on Anastrozle for breast cancer and her TSH became elevated as well. I could never get them to test Free T4 and Free T3, though so I don't know what her actual thyroid function was. She was not on any thyroid medication. I don't know of a connection between Anastrozole and hypothyroidism, but that doesn't mean there isn't one.

My son is on GH for GHD. Also did 2.25 yrs anastrozole since bone age was slightly ahead. Now only on GH. Age 15.5, bone age 13.5-14. Has all the puberty markers for tanner 4: pubic hair now starting a line to navel. Has to shave a couple times per week but only few hairs in beard area, voice deeper but no prominent adams apple yet. A year ago at endo appt we were told he didnt have to endure anymore testicle size checks. I assume that means they are near adult in size.

My understanding is that oopherectomy is recommended for women who carry BRCA1 or BRCA2 or related gene mutations, because they have increased risk for ovarian as well as breast cancer. Have any first degree relatives had BC and or the genetic testing? Has your oncologist discussed whether it might be a good idea for you to consider genetic testing? I hope you are doing well 2 years post-dx, and that you continue to do so!

this is known as off labeling...where a drug is intended for one purpose but used for another....in this case insomnia......

I have been taking Anastrozole for about two and half years for stage 1 ER/PR positive breast cancer. About a year after I started taking the drug, I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes that is not particularly well controlled, even though I take two different prescriptions.
