Common Questions and Answers about What is advair used for

advair

Avatar f tn Yes..Advair is horrible for you. It brings your immune system way down. If you can go without it, I suggest you do so. I have meneire's diseases and I believe it was caused by the advair. My sister is on the Advair and has a constant sore throat but she can't breath very well without it. She could breath better before she was on advair. At first, you feel great on Advair. After a few months, for a lot of people, your health is worse.
Avatar n tn COPD is the umbrella term that includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema. The symbicort is good for reducing the inflammation (therefore narrows the breathing tubes) in the lung pathways. It should help your bronchitis.
Avatar f tn Spriva which is the same type drug as Advair I believe. What Spiriva is a a capsule that you place in the device for delivery of the medicine. You place the capsule in a hole inside then when you close the top and press a button a little nail shaped metal piece stabs a hole in the capsule. You blow all of your breath out slowly then suck in slowly while it delivers a little at a time to your lungs.
1425157 tn?1311651679 the last 4 colds i have had have been followed by bronchitis and then a dry hacky cough that is quite bad and lasts for months-1 month ago i had a bad cold now i am hacking all the time and feel tight in chest and back-- clinic doc said it is reactive airway issue due to the cold??
Avatar f tn if you don't need both medications, pulmicort was the cheapest that me and my doctor found. Advair diskus 250 was lasting two weeks for (4 puffs a day) and pulmicort for $15 more, had 200 doses and I was only using 2 a day because it was 400ug instead of 250. The best is to go and ask a pharmicist to look up the prices for you.
Avatar n tn A careful nasal examination, Allergen-specific testing includes Skin testing, Serum tests for allergy, Allergen challenge and as well as Evaluation for concurrent conditions like Sinusitis and Asthma is necessary and it directs further steps for management. Also you are on various medications, some of these are known to reduce the blood potassium levels (like thiazides) and can cause weakness known as hypokalemic periodic paralysis.
Avatar n tn after that my weezing was worst than ever and i started noticing that after i used advair my weezing was much worse. i saw this thread yesterday and now for a day and a half i havent used it and i feel alot better. i just started using sinus rinse today but i dont know if that had something to do with it also. other than sinus rinse, can you all recommend some other type of medications that i can use instead of advair that gets rid of inflamation?
Avatar n tn WHAT IS THE INGREDIENT IN ADVAIR THAT CAUSES THRUSH AND WHY CAN'T IT BE ILLIMITED?
Avatar m tn I currently take advair and Spiriva medication.. is this the one and only mediacation, since there are no genericand here in the united states unlike the rest of the world which has a free market, we are controlled by the drug industry.
Avatar f tn And in Februrary the FDA came out with a warning about Advair. They said it should only be used when nothing else worked and, even then, it should only be used short term. Maybe you need another doctor.
Avatar n tn I was put on Advair 250 twice a day for acid reflux-related asthma. I used it for about four weeks before I decided to quit it cold turkey, as I gained a lot of weight from the steroids and have never weighed so much in my life. The day after I quit it I got really bad withdrawal symptoms--particularly, my asthma became the WORST it's ever been in my life. My chest felt as if it had concrete poured into it.
Avatar n tn The FDA issued a warning last February concerning Advair. It should only be used when nothing else works, and even then, for only short periods of time. There are many serious side effects, including death (a pretty serious side effect). I have not heard of Advair causing bruising. How are you on vitamins? Lack of vitamin C, or any others?
Avatar f tn sinus CT scan is normal too. Is this viral is it okay to take several months for cough to go away. I have no wheezing or asthma history. could this be lung infection? Please help.
1679876 tn?1304743615 I have been given Advair to take for my copd, but one side effect is fast and irregular heart beat, chest pain and increased BP----I take Metoprolol succ er for my PSVT--- -Will the Advair Diskus work against my metoprolol meds? I am alllergic to Penasylin, tetrocycoline, decadron, dyphahidromine, and benedril. My other meds I take are: zolof, welbrutrin, seroquel xr, gabapentine, tizanidine hcl and pravastatin sodium----will there be any adverse reactions to any of these meds?
Avatar f tn Now, however, it has been two days post-extraction, and I wonder whether it is safe to use Advair without risk of dislodging the clots. I am also taking oral contraceptives (I have been informed that this medication may increase the risk for clotting problems). I am feeling more respiratory congestion with each additional day off Advair and would like to know if it's safe to use Advair so soon after wisdom teeth extraction. Thanks!
Avatar n tn I have an expired Advair Diskus. Has anyone used theirs past the expiration date? If so, how far past the date, and what was the result?
335728 tn?1331414412 How the heck was I to know that this drug can cause LEG CRAMPS!!! She said that I have COPD and that this Advair is what is used to control COPD! When I was finally referred to the Lung Specialist 7 MONTHS LATER and the Lung Specialist diagnosed me with Asthma, not COPD, he immediately took me off of the Advair and put me on Spireva and Symbicort and Ventolin (as required). Of course when I went to the lung dr.
Avatar n tn I have used Advair 250/50 for some years now and do OK on it. I was using the diskus, but I always had thrush. My nurse practitioner changed me to the newer Advair which is in the more typical inhaler form. The thrush has only been back once! Fall is always hard for me, and right on schedule I am congested and wheezy!
Avatar m tn I was given Advair and Singulair for an allergy problem that was causing asthma symptoms. I had used Advair in the past with no side effects. I lost my sense of smell and taste almost immediately. I could only taste sweet and salty, and could not smell at all. I stopped taking both of the new drugs and got on the internet to find answers. When I saw that others had lost smell and taste with Advair I contacted my doctor and pharmacist.
Avatar n tn I believe it also involved salmeterol, which is a component of Advair. It was recommended that they be used when nothing else worked, and then only for short periods. I do know from talking to people that inhaled steroids are often prescribed willy nilly for minor complaints. My brother told me he had a little mucus (very minor chronic bronchitis which didn't bother him much) and his doctor gave him Advair. I hit the roof, and suggested he take B5.
Avatar n tn Oximetry with a saturation of 86 to 87% is on the borderline of indications for the continuous oxygen. You will need further information, for example what are your saturations while asleep, before making any decisions concerning the use of oxygen. You are correct in wanting to wait until you have achieved optimum benefit from the AdvairĀ® HFA (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) Inhalation Aerosol, before any consideration of oxygen use.
Avatar m tn I got in to see my doctor and he said it was probably asthma and gave me an Advair inhaler to use if this ever happens again. A month later I had a similar episode and I used the inhaler and it didnt seem to help. At least not soon enough. My symptoms eventually subsided. I went back to the doc and he ordered a chest xray, blood tests and heart tests which all came back ok.
757137 tn?1347196453 Oh, what sort of side effects do you get from asthma inhalers? Personally I find that they don't bother me at all. I'm currently using Symbicort 400ug x 4puffs/day along with oxeze 12ug x 3puffs/day (long acting bronchodilator). They work well in controlling my asthma symptoms. The only symptom that doesn't go away is a chronic cough due to excess lung mucous. The long lasting bronchodilator should only be used together with a steroid inhaler.
Avatar n tn My husband has battled asthma now for over 20 years. 2 years ago he was put on Advair disk inhaler, Singulair, and Allegra D as his regimen. After about a month he started having a problem with his legs and groin itching. He took himself off the Singulair as that is what he decided was the problem. He has gotten by with just the Advair inhaler. In the past month he's really been struggling with breathing problems.
Avatar f tn Long acting forms are not recommend for use by asthmatics unless they are also being used with a corticosteroid as in Advair (Symbicort and Dulera as well). Short acting forms are a form of albuterol. They last about four hours and are considered the rescue inhaler. Advair and Spiriva is a common combination of meds for COPD patients. However, you should also have a rescue inhlaer containing some form of albuterol. Combivent is another option used by many COPD patients.
Avatar f tn My physician has prescribed both Advair 50/250 and Spiriva, along with Pro Air p4-6h prn and nebulizer treatment (Albuterol) q4-6h prn. I am still having problems breathing. Is it okay to take these all at the same time? Will there be any side effects?
Avatar f tn Several things. First you need a rescue inhaler - some form of albuterol. Advair is for maintenance not rescue. Advair takes 15 minutes to act which is too long if you are in distress. Second, 4 times a day? The meds in Advari are 12 hour meds and they should only be taken twice a day. What strength are you on? Also, are you on the discus or the Hfa? Dry powder inhalers like the discus can cause more irritation because of the size of the particles and they contain milk.
