Common Questions and Answers about What is abilify used to treat

abilify

Avatar n tn Well, you should NEVER stop medication on your own without notifying your doctor. Do you have a mood disorder or bipolar? That is really important to treat. Talk to your doctor. Seroquel works well instead of Abilify as you know (why did you change?) but there are others in the same class of drugs as well that are good medications. There are several to choose from. Seroquel is one and if it worked before, no reason to change. But that is between you and your doctor.
Avatar n tn If you can find an alternative school system for him (some days homeschool, others at school), then it may may help him be able to have less tics. This is what worked for my daughter! Best of luck to you!
Avatar m tn Who knows? All three of these drugs target at least in part the way the brain processes serotonin. The Zoloft is an ssri, and solely targets serotonin. The other two target other neurotransmitters along with serotonin. The possible danger is getting serotonin syndrome, which is an overdose basically of serotonin.
Avatar n tn Hi, can you tell me why are you taking that medicine? I have a daughter ,14 years old, and the doctor is changing her respirdol for abilify, what is your health problem and how this medicine had worked for you?...
Avatar f tn Venlafaxine is used to treat general anxiety and abilify(aripiprazole) is used to treat depression. Good luck!!!!
Avatar f tn t bother me, but my body is used to the meds already. So maybe you should wait till your body is used to the meds before adding caffeine back in.
Avatar m tn Abilify is an anti-psychotic med commonly used to treat psychotic illnesses such as bipolar disorder, schitzophrenia, etc. It is sometimes used as an adjunct treatment (in addition to another antidepressant) to treat clinical depression, alrthough I've honestly never heard of it being Rx'ed alone for depression. That doesn't mean it isn't done or that it won't help, I'm just telling you the common uses.
899491 tn?1243773627 I know Abilify like all antipsychotics can cause anti-cholinergic side effects (although less so then other antipsychotics) which include dry mouth and urinary retention. Sometimes some of the side effect pills used to treat the motor restlessness from it such as the anti-cholinergics (Cogentin, Artane, etc.) can make that worse. That might be one cause but generally its not so severe. Your psychiatrist should be able to explain what happened though.
Avatar f tn I am also diagnosed with both ADHD and BP. I have been on Abilify which did nothing for my ADHD and only moderately affected my BP. Abilify isn't prescribed for ADHD. It's whole purpose (as far as I am aware) is to treat BP. I had a very rare side effect of blurred vision as well with it which is why I eventually went off of it.

Avatar f tn That is why I said, she should ask him. It is up to him whether or not he wants her to know what is going on with him.
Avatar f tn Abilify was just proven to treat the aggressiveness/irritability associated with autism spectrum disorders. ABA has been a Godsend for my son (he was dx as severely autistic at 26 months old, and boy oh boy have we had behavioral/aggression issues). That being said, when my son is on medication, he has weird reactions. Ibuprofen makes him crazy hyper (my daughter too). Steroids he is an absolute nightmare.
Avatar f tn I think you are on the wrong combination, Abilify and many other drugs risk weight gain, BUT you have the ability to watch what you eat and take control of that. I'm on Seroquel for the anxiety, Depakote sorta for both MS -including hypomania and Lamctil for Depression, it's a good combo. I haven't gained any weight, since going off LIthium. At first I was hungry all the time, but one day I just stopped, I have no idea why, but I'm not complaining.
Avatar m tn ALL anyipsychotics has very rare risk of TD. Problem is... TD is incutable and virtually untreatable. Abilify is known to cause much less TD then other drugs but antipyschotic is antipyschotic. Well, if you decide not to treat pyschosis due to risk of TD, that isn't smart choice as pyschosis will get worsen and get incurable and untreatable... with even worse symptoms that is just a torment.
Avatar m tn Some of the one I am familiar with are Abilify, Geodon, Depakote, Lamictal, Lithium, Remeron, Aoloft, Prozac, and many many more. You may want to post and ask for a website link to get more info. I know one site www. NAMI.org is very good and has links. I think it boils down to good old fashion research. Usually it's a combination of 2 or 3 meds to treat the different symtoms of Bipolar. Most people are not on just one med.
Avatar m tn Yes the use of antipsychotics is clinically complex in people with developmental disabilities but they are sometimes needed to treat a secondary psychiatric disability which is what you are describing. Clozaril is not used as often (although it is highly effective) as it would be because of the potential of blood dyscreias.
Avatar f tn I really need to know what she has tried to be more helpful. So here is a link to the most commonly used meds..... http://healthlifeandstuff.com/adhd/the-ten-most-important-adhd-meds/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+healthlifeandstuff%2FVLsa+%28Health+and+Life%29 Let me know what she has tried and knowing the doses she has tried would also be helpful. But, I really am wondering due to your question about weight gain (Resperdal?
Avatar f tn to make sure that he didnt have an ulcer from the stimulants right now my son is on no meds cuz Abilify is marketed to adults probably never studied in children and its very new I wont use my ten year old as a test dummy.
Avatar f tn t think that is fully restricted and most jobs would not be effected. And Abilify is like Prozac used to treat diagnosed mental health disorders. Taking them is good, means you are treating mental health. Most drug tests are looking for elicit drug use. I doubt every med you take would be looked for or trigger a positive test. As long s you have a prescription, you should be good. What type of job is it?
447130 tn?1225470866 Namaste, I've been diagnoised with Bipolar I and sometimes experience the same symptoms you describe, even though I/m on medication. I find however, that after a period of time(usually 1-2 weeks) the symptoms go away and I'm back to my old self. If you feel that Abilify is not the proper medication for you, I take 400 mg. of Lamictal, 30 mg. of Remeron and 10 mg. of Valium 4 times a day.
