Does anyone know what non stress testing is and when it should start in a twin pregnancy? I'm going on 28 weeks and my doctor mentioned it way back at 22 weeks but I have not had any yet....hmm..

They haven't done a stress test on me at all. Are your sugars always high with diet and walking? I know stress will shoot your sugars up.

However diabetics (both gestational and non) have a higher rate of stillborn babies (still rare, but better to be safe) so its common practice to keep a closer eye as the pregnancy nears the end.

ve heard of playing with your nipples to bring on labor supposedly but not for the non-stress test. =) I have to start going when I hit 32 weeks but basically what it is they put a belt around your waist to monitor the baby's heart rate and you have to sit there for like 1/2 an hour. Hello All, I had my 30 week office visit today. Everything looked real good and the doctor is really pleased with how the pregnancy is progressing. She did state that she wants me to have a non-stress test for the baby in two weeks and then again 2 weeks after that. She said it's just a precaution b/c of my age (39) and my history of m/c's (3 of them). Has anybody else had the non-stress tests done??

No. NST's are normal at this point. They just want to make sure they baby isn't having any issues. With my first I went 5 days passed due and had NSTs weekly from 38 weeks on. With #2 same thing only they didn't like what they saw the day before the due date and induced labor due to erratic fetal heart beat. She was and is totally fine and healthy though.

They basically put a heart and movement monitor on your belly and count for a specific amount of movement and appropriate acceleration of baby's heart rate. Then they do appropriate ultrasound to measure fluid around baby and to make appropriate baby is doing breathing exercises.

During pregnancy they give you a non stress test and they only do so if they have probably cause that something is wrong with your health our the baby's. Do you have any medical issues like diabetes or something?
