Common Questions and Answers about What is a knee brace good for

knee

Avatar f tn This is likely to occur due to injury and instability of some of the major supports of the knee joint, while reconstruction of the ligaments may just be possible in a few cases. You could try using a knee brace for additional support and avoiding exercise. It would be best to discuss the situation, the management plan and the expected, prognosis in detail with your treating orthopedician. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar n tn Hello. I am not a doctor, but an athletic trainer. As an athletic trainer, I specialize in orthopedic injuries. I help prevent, diagnosis and rehabilitate injuries. I like to think there is always hope. Have you gone to another surgeon for another opinion? Do you know what is limiting your ability to straighten your leg? Is it scar tissue? If so, they can remove that. You will have to go to physical therapy again, but it should help you regain your motion.
701160 tn?1228413523 Pre-patella bursitis or "housemaid's knee" is quite common in laborers who work on their knees such as carpet installers or tile men. It is also common in wrestlers, as you've already found out. This ailment is an irritation of the bursa in front of the kneecap (patella) and results in a collection of fluid within the bursa, and thickening of the bursal tissue itself. These are often treated with ice and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication.
Avatar m tn I bought a knee brace for work, and sports. It is like elastaprene, or something. It works well keeping my knee stable (ACL injury). But it makes my skin have a rash. Is there another style material brace I could buy that would not make my skin have a rash?

Avatar m tn Because of the atrophy in my leg, I will have to wear a brace for the rest of my life and this brace seems to be the one that gives me the most support. I hope your knee is better and you do not have to wear a brace indefinitely but if you do, I recommend the Donjoy Defiance III. It is a custom fitted brace. Your doctor should be able to help. Best wishes to you and stay positive. You'll be fine...
Avatar f tn Needless to say before leaving PT I could not use the crutches with the stiff brace so offered a walker and a smaller brace that went above the knee and below the knee with a cut out for the knee. I wore that and stayed off of it as much as possible. Constant pain, heavy Naproxen. 3 wks I went back...primary doctor ordered an xray/mri which I had to wait 2 wks before but did prescribe me Vicotone instead of Naproxen. In 2 wks I walked stiffly in with brace to the xray/mri and had that done.
645800 tn?1466860955 I would love to figure out how they've set up both for you. I have to wear a knee brace on my weak leg 24/7 -- the foot drop assist afos that were approved by my insurance wouldn't work with the knee brace. The one that does work with knee brace? Insurance has denied it twice now. They won't cover it. I'm incredibly frustrated and not sure what to do next. What sort of afos are you using? I am so glad that the set up is working for you though!!! Must feel pretty good!
645800 tn?1466860955 Ever since getting home I have been trying to find some knee high socks for men without much luck. What I have found so far consist of what are called knee high compression socks @ $35/pair and lots of women's knee high socks, and few men's knee high dress socks @ $15/ pair. Now I can't afford those prices and don't think I could handle a compression sock so I am looking for ideas for an alternative to the socks that will do the same thing. Any ideas?
Avatar m tn Recently he dove for a ball and his knee swelled up over the weekend. From what I can gather it sounds like a contusion to the same knee. Is this type of swelling unusual and to be expected? He doesn't where any type of brace at the advise of the surgeon. What advise can you provide?
405614 tn?1329144114 Hi there. It's been a long while since I visited this community. Life has been pretty good, despite several issues I deal with . I've been totally in love with Zumba, and am in pretty darn good shape from it. Unfortunately, my left knee has given up on me. Both knees are in bad shape; I've had 5 surgeries, 3 of them ACL reconstructions. I tore the lateral meniscus in my left knee in September.
Avatar f tn Is it o.k. to wear a knee brace that also covers the vaiacose vein in my shin. without the brace I have pain in my knee cap & not sure if any pain is from the varicose vein. it does feel better with the brace on But will it do harm to the varicose vein?
Avatar f tn You have to follow up with an orthopedician and discuss all options for conservative therapy and for this you would need rest and complete abstinence from all physical activities for 6-8 weeks. You have to wear a below knee cast, followed up by a knee brace. If it does not work in 8-10 weeks then you have to consider surgery for your ligaments rupture. Till then apply ice packs and do not flex your knee, which is not desirable. Start wearing a knee brace. Take care!
Avatar f tn so, i've been a little under 2 months now and it was my good leg. my right leg's knee is giving me fits even before the foot drop. so far, i've had the eeg test which determined there's a problem in my leg. just don't know why and hoping the mri will show something. in another couple weeks, i'll get my brace. ortho doesn't seem to have a lot of hope because they ordered the high-dollar pivoting brace.
Avatar m tn The consultant recommended a knee brace that locks at 0 degrees and 90 degrees while I undergo some physio and rehab. I have ordered a knee brace from DonJoy that is suitable, and just had my first physio session yesterday. The physio actually advised that I can move my knee through more than 90 degrees of flexion when exercising / stretching / in rehab, since I was able to do so without too much effort and no real discomfort when she was treating me.
Avatar f tn The foot and ankle are made up of many small bones. In between these bones, like any other joint like your knee or hip, there are small pads of cartilage that cushion the space between them. Over time, these pads can wear away (osteoarthritis), and when the bones grind together it causes pain. I'm not saying this is what's happening, but it's one possible cause.
Avatar f tn I was just cleared to get off the brace and crutches one month after ACL reconstruction (patellar autograft) and a meniscus repair. I was able to walk ok with a bit of a limp for the last 2 days. The physical therapist had me go on a stationary bike today for the first time, and I definitely could not do a full revolution, it’s still a bit swollen and I’ve only been able to bend my knee about 98 degrees so far.
Avatar f tn Decided on my own to just take when needed for knee pain. Stoped 6 days ago Oh my gosh I am so sick!!!! What can I do, and should I seek medical advice???
Avatar f tn I'm sorry to hear about your knee pain. It does sound quite challenging to deal with, especially given its persistence. Although I'm not a doctor and cannot diagnose your condition, a knee brace might be a suitable solution for you. Knee braces can provide support, stability, and pain relief for various knee issues, including meniscus tears. By wearing a knee brace, you can alleviate some of the stress on your knee and promote healing.
Avatar f tn hello, i am a 15 year old girl who just underwent a meniscus repair for a bucket handle tear. The surgery was about a month and a half ago and my knee was feeling great until about two weeks ago. Two weeks ago i feel and kind of fell amd twisted on my injured knee. The knee became very hot and swollen almost instantly after it happened. I have not gone back to my ortho doc yet but my therapist thinks i might have re-torn my meniscus. Does any one know what they would do to fix this?
Avatar m tn The knee started feeling around 80% better about 3 days ago. I wore knee brace every day even to sleep, 2 days ago I changed to a more comfortable brace with those metal hinges on sides, also slept with it. My current issue/question, is 2 days ago I woke up with a swollen ankle and pain when putting leg down to walk. I don't remember any sprain in ankle at all, I had just walked a theme park the night before with no ankle issue or even the knee felt great.
