I have treated twice for Hep C once for 15 mo standard Interferon and Rib, second time for 7 mo with addition of Alinia stopping Jan of 09. I have severe loss of finger joint movement in both hands. started 3 or 4 months after final treatment. My ortho guy doesn't see any structural damage or signs of arthritis .Could there be tie to the Hep C or treatment??
The joint is tight, painful, and has a good amount of fluid over the knuckle. It is a sausage-like finger now. Warming it and slowly working it get some movement back for the day. There seems no rhyme or reason for what flares it up.
Primary Doctor did tests for Lyme,Antibodies, and gout....all came back negative.

You've probably developed a bone spur on that joint - I had the same thing on my ring finger. There's another one like it on my pinkie but it's not bad enough to do anything about yet.
At some point, the tendon starts snapping back and forth across that bone protrusion and it's EXTREMELY painful. An orthopedic surgeon can do outpatient surgery to shave off the bone spur and relieve the pain. In the mean time you can splint the finger to keep the pain to a minimum.

Hi, I have a question. For months and months I've been having minor pain in the smallest joint on my fourth finger on my right hand. Because I work seven days a week during the school year, I never saw the doctor. But it started getting worse. It hurts, if my fist is closed, to bump the knuckle from above. When there is a capsular injury to a joint in finger, it is best to give the RICE treatment for a few days such as rest, ice application, compression bandage (you can strap the injured finger with the neighboring finger) and elevation (keep hands elevated on a pillow at bed time).
