Common Questions and Answers about What is a concussion and what causes it

concussion

Avatar f tn It is abundantly clear that in some cases concussions may result in seizures. That is not a "theory". It is a medical fact. It doesn't require "discussion". But not all concussions result in a seizure. There can be varying degrees of damage depending on the severity off the blow, where the impact takes place, and from resultant swelling, and if there is a delay in seeking medical attention. A "concussion" is not a "concussion".
Avatar f tn Myoclonus is brief, involuntary twitching of a muscle or a group of muscles. It describes a symptom (as opposed to medical sign) and, generally, is not a diagnosis of a disease. ' 'Myoclonus may develop in response to infection, head or spinal cord injury, stroke, brain tumors, kidney or liver failure, lipid storage disease, chemical or drug poisoning, or other disorders.

Avatar m tn What if you had a concussion? What if eating doesn't help?Is it different if you can't barley speak and move?
Avatar f tn The impact of the ball caused the concussion, and the shape of his pupil is now oval. I took him to a pediatric opthamologist who did a thorough exam. He said there is no lasting damage other than the shape of the pupil, but he needed glasses. When he "recovered" from the concussion three weeks later, he tried to go back to baseball but could no longer judge the speed and distance of the ball. He had to quit. He has been moody and pesting ever since the concussion.
Avatar f tn Hey, I'm 20 years old and healthy. I hit my head on a dent in the celling 2 weeks ago and it hurt but i didn't think much of it, only to have a killer headache/almost passing out episode 3 days later. -I've been nausous since, went to the hospital a bunch of times and was diagnosed with a concussion. Avatar f tn I think the other person is correct in it being caused by you simply dreaming. It could also be what RobertPanini said. I certainly hope that's not the case!!!
Avatar n tn What you've described is honestly unlikely to be something serious or life altering so if you can try not to let your anxiety run you off the rails... If you have a history of multiple concussions, head, neck or spinal injuries from playing a contact sport it might be related but it's just as likely to not be and until you've had a spinal MRI, nerve conductor tests etc you won't have a true idea of if this is actually neurological caused or not.
Avatar m tn I suggest you google pituitary and trauma and see if any of the symptoms fit you. A friend of mine had a car accident and then gained a lot of weight afterward, became severely growth hormone deficient and developed Cushing's. You need a new GP, and find a good endocrinologist.
Avatar m tn Is the diagnosis similar between a concussion and intoxication? If so, in what ways? i.e., with the pupils, when doctor shines light in eyes, motor skills, etc. In what ways are they different? What if you have/are both at the same time? Can they be possibly confused or synonymous?

Avatar f tn About a week later, I had a facial droop. It looked like I was having a stroke. I went to the ER and via CT it was determined that it wasn't a stroke nor was there a bleed. Since then I have had 10 more sporadic, recurrent, facial droops each lasting between 40 minutes to an hour and a half. Can anyone shed some light? Thanks!
Avatar f tn I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced severe light sensitivity this long after a concussion and what their diagnosis was or what they did to stop it.
Avatar m tn Is the urine tests and culture pretty accurate for gon/chlamydia?
426977 tn?1258371328 lasted about 4-5 weeks with me hardly going anywhere or doing much in order to recover as I discovered activity hindered my progress. My own Dr thought it might be something that was a one-off event and no need to worry as by the time I saw him I was near normal. But December 19 after a bout of housework I became incapacitated again. I rested.I describe my walking as sluggish, waddling or wooden legs. I would get an unbelievable inability to walk any further after going uphill about 20 yards.
Avatar n tn His diagnosis is ALS. I was curious to see if that would be a first choice for you. He has done an EMG, spinal tap and standard blood tests. Since other diagnosis could be ruled out, ALS was what was left. A bit of its not this or this, therefore it must be ALS. Honestly I do not know what the results of those were, I just know the diagnosis. I probably should ask for copies of those results. The neuro is the director of the ALS clinic here in Hershey, PA.
Avatar n tn my husbands face also turns red, almost looks like an allergic reaction, the doctor has told him it was due to him having a high blood pressure. his BP is usualy okay once in a while it will go up.
Avatar f tn I have a mild headache with sudden pain in various parts of my head, my stomach is upset and I am exhausted. I was told it was a mild concussion and symptoms could last for weeks, months. Although I never had a seizure I was put on preventative seizure meds. The bottom line is the brain is extremely fragile and complex. No one knows how long it will take for your's to heal. But, rest and I mean a lot of rest, will help immensely.
