Common Questions and Answers about What does spotting between periods look like

period

I sometimes get dark blood discharge in between periods it last a few days to a week and ranges from a little smear to sometimes a clump. It does not hurt and does not flow like my period. It's more like dark (almost black)discharge. I notice I get it a day or two after exercising and thought I might be aggravating something. This has been happening sporadically over 5 years.. I am 31 years old.
then about 12 days later after that i had dark read discharge that only lasted about 2 hours but was very lite. then today i got a lite pink discharge. what is the difference between the three and what am i having. Please help.
What is the main difference between spotting and light bleeding? I don't know what it is that I'm experiencing, and for me to define the difference would help. I don't have insurance so I can't go to the OB, and it costs $125 for bloodwork. The pink and brown stuff is only there when I wipe. This has been going on for 8 out of the last 9 days. It comes and goes. My period isn't due at least until this friday, and this started last monday. Light cramping, high temps. Coverline is 96.
i'm no pro on implantation bleeding, but i agree it does sound like it would be too early. i also agree with npd if your dr. is being proactive it may be time to look for another one. i remember after your m/c "talking" to you i think about testing and such, although i don't recall exactly. what ended up happening with that? did you test? did you get any answers?
So far mine have been 25-30 pound weight gain since having last child ( had almost lost it all, but then started packing it on suddenly) , the gross hair growth thing, inner thigh pain, back pain like beginning labor, cramps off and on all the time, constipation sometimes, irregular periods, and in between spotting and gross brown spotting, sometimes painful intercourse (usually painful the next day), bloating at different times during the month, unexplained severe fatigue sometimes.
If you have a corpus luteum cyst, you may be experiencing menstrual changes such as late periods or bleeding between periods. Because this set of symptoms is also associated with the dangerous condition known as tubal or ectopic pregnancy, you should be sure to go to a doctor.
I get so aggravated when i go to the bathroom. THe sad thing is my husband and i want a child so deperatly and it does not look like it will happen!!!! My Dr. doesnt seem to want to help us get pregnant either. If something doesnt happen soon i am switching Dr.s... I DO NOT RECOMMEND THE DEPO TO ANYONE... I DO NOT RECOMMEND THE DEPO TO ANYONE THAT WOULD POSSIBLY WANT ANOTHER CHILD...
Yesterday though I had some brown spotting in my underwear. It was kind of creamy looking and didn't exactly smell like blood. It smelled more awful than anything else. Since I have been to the bathroom many times and only once since has it been there. I am curious has this happened to anyone else? Should I worry? Also, I dont know if this means anything but I have been SERIOUSLY constipated and haven't moved my bowels in almost a week.
this was found on a web-site. What does implantation bleeding look like? Implantation bleeding is vaginal discharge which usually contains a small amount of pinkish or brownish blood. Only about a third of pregnant women experience implantation bleeding. When does implantation bleeding usually occur? It can happen at the time the fertilized egg implants in the uterus, on average between 6 to 12 days past ovulation. Should I worry about implantation bleeding occurring?
When I had my early m/c (5 weeks) I bled for about 7-8 days, mostly spotting like yours towards the end. I also had very irregular periods before I had my daughter ( usually 2 a year - was told I prob. would never get preg.) and after my m/c I waited 14 weeks before AF came back, which just happened. Hopefully I will not go back to only 2 a year, as am ttc again, but only time will tell. I hope your cycles become more regulated after your body heals from the loss.
I am underweight (I know some with PCOS who are), and have always had irregular periods - I get them each month but never on the same date. I recently went to a doctor because I had spotting between periods and multiple mini "periods" in a short space of time, which is a first for me, even with ovarian cysts. I've also been having gas and indigestion for months, which is unlike me, so was concerned about more serious things.
My spotting varies in color, like yours. Light Brown, Dark Brown/Red, Light Pink, you name it. It just depends on the month!
@ I never know whats going on lol Hmm Ive read spotting can happen more than once....see what you are like by morning...if nothing maybe see Doc ! I get so worried about strange things going on with my body, so I always ask questions...but this time I though id ask online and see if anyone had same experience. No mine are never spotting to start with...it usually starts of light and flows...but at the wkend when I wiped (TMI) it was watery and light the 1st day and was gone by 12pm.
17, pretty sure conception took place somewhere between Feb 29th and March 2nd., which would put me at two weeks. On cycle day 25, or what i think was the 12th day of my luteal phase, i tested positive on home pregnancy test. Positive again at doctor's office on cycle day 27. I went in to urgent care that day because I was bleeding, not a lot, but more than just brown spotting. It is the day I would have gotten my period. Had brown spotting for a 1.5 days more, now none.
As your spotting is mid cycle, this could to due to mittel schmertz. Look it up on google. Its basically when you release your egg (ovulate). You can expect normal period like cramps etc during this time. Spotting should only be brief. How long does the spotting last? Mittel schmertz is normal, I suffer with it badly, I know which ovary is releasing the egg and for a few hours after it has been released, I can barely walk. Most women don't get it, and ones that do only get it mildly.
She is still having 3 periods in a months time, with just a couple days break in between. She has all the tests like you but we have been told by a family friend taht it is most likely a problem with either the ovaries or the Hypothalamus in the brain. He is a Gyno from another ountry and haven't been able to get very far with our doctors in that direction yet but are still pushing. I have no idea how to find out if it is a Hypothalamus problem.
I'm hoping that it's either healthy or if not, I miscarry very quickly. What does this sound like to you?
What happened girl? Any news on it? Did you take any more HPT??? LET US KNOW!!!
Do you mean you don't know why you're doing IVF?? I mean, granted, it's 'cause ya been having all this fun but there's no end product but I assumed that everyone doing this knew what their "problem" was. I mean, it's not like you go around asking "So what's WRONG with YOU?" but I assumed everyone knew what their specific reason was. Mine is that DH did a very stupid thing 23 years ago and so there's a bit of a physical barrier preventing us from producing results.
Just relax and enjoy the change. I know what it's like to have heavy periods, by the way. You might look into birth control as it will lighten your flow and make periods far more bearable. I went from a very similar flow you describe as your normal (7 days, heavy with clots, unable to function because of that and nausea, fatigue, etc.) to 2-3 days light to moderate flow. Besides, if you're having sex, it wouldn't hurt.
My doctor has put me on bedrest until my follow up ultrasound/prenatal appointment in 5 days. Does anyone know what this could be? I'm a nervous wreck. I don't want to loose another baby. But, I'm baffled as to how it could have survived my ordeal last night.
Hi, it sounds like implantation bleeding to me, wait a few days and take a test.

I have been TTC for 4 months. I monitor my BBT, CM and cervical position. My periods have been abnormal lately. My usual cycle is 28 days but they have been 30-31 days the last 2 months. My BBT has remained above the coverline this cycle. And my "period" this month was only 2 days of light bleeding and 3 days of spotting (NOT requiring a pad or liner). Here's my concern~for the last several days my uterus has felt "swelled".
i had a missed miscarriage 5 weeks ago, i was 6 weeks along and everthing came away naturally and i stopped bleeding after 7 days. i decided not to wait untill i got my next period so i started ttc straight away. i have just taken 2 hpt which have shown me a positive result, could these be false readings because my body could still have the hcg hormone still in my system from my miscarriage? any replies would be of great help, thanks.
The little bit of spotting you had does not sound like a period to me, I mean that is nowhere near enough to get rid of the womb lining surely? Are your periods usually light? You are right not to give up trying and the advice your husband gave you sounds like the best I have ever heard! He is truly in touch with his feminine side.
hi there, I have also been trying for baby #2 and have very irregular periods so they put me on hormone therapy just to get my periods regular. After that I still was spotting so it was hard to tell if it was implantation or just spotting, doc told me wait and take a pregnancy test. as for anxiety meds, I am on anti anx meds and while I was preg with my son they changed my meds to a c level[ranked a-d for safety durring pregnancy and nursing]med.
Is there a difference between spotting brown discharge and implantation bleeding? it sounds like the same thing to me. i have been having brown, mucus-like discharge am i likely to be pregnant?
Well I had two periods in one month and to find out I was pregnant! So its possible.
