Three days ago I went to a new doctor to get the hormones adjusted and she said she does not prescribe bioidenticals and gave me a prescription for Prempro. I do not want to take this and I told her so. She said she does not believe bioidenticals are any safer than Prempro and if I needed to have an adjustment in my Rx due to break through symptoms of hot flashes and severe brain fog along with zero energy then I needed to try something different than what I had been doing.
I am age 66. At age 50 my GYN put me on Prempro. I had no symptoms of menopause. He said that it will happen and I can prevent the discomfort of it by starting estrogen therapy. He was right, I have never had any of the things people talk about. What I am wondering, would I maybe not even had the symptoms anyway? I have been on it for 16 years now. My GYN has now prescribed a low dose, but how do I know if I even need it? I am basically healthy.
I am 56 years old and have been on prempro for 10 years. My gyno started weining me off last winter. On July 3 I had a mini stroke and was taken off of prempro immediately. I don't smoke or drink. I had 1 more step to go before I would have been off of it all together. Now my pcp wants to put me on anxiety med and I'm not OK with that. Other Dr's have said don't do that. but I do not take any medication, just nasal steroid sprays and nasal rinses and it does not do anything. I even had sinus surgery - total ethmoidectomy, opening the ostia of the maxillary sinuses and partial turbinectomy. along with a steroid Kenalog IM injection - still did not help. But maybe your's could be the Prempro. Ask your doctor, make sure it's your ENT doctor.
The latest is the inability to have an orgasm. That made me go see my doctor who prescribed Prempro. My maternal grandmother died with breast cancer. I thought the jury was out once again on whether Prempro (HRT) actually does increase the risk of breast cancer beause the study is believed by some to be flawed. The study was composed of mostly older women, who are at a higher risk. Also, I thought over the counter natural hormone remedies are not regulated by the FDA, thus they dont know if linked to breast cancer. This information might become outdated as I am writing this.
Oncologist opinion that since I am 62, and have been on Prempro for 11 yrs that HRT may have contributed to LCIS, because although LCIS is found in women my age, it is usually found in younger women. Just finished weaninf off the Prempro. Having sweats and flashes, but not as bad as I thought it would be. I am supposed to start Raloxifene. This may cause hot flashes. If severe enough, dr will rx Effexor to treat flashes.

I was told not to eat or drink for an hour after taking my medication. The info sheet that came with the drug does say not to eat for 30-60 minutes. My question is about coffee with NO cream & sugar. Do I have to wait 30-60 minutes to drink that. It is what I crave when I wake up. The food can wait!

I am personally not a big fan of supplemental estrogen. The information on it also very clearly states to tell your doctor if you are having unusual vaginal bleeding! As in, if it was not time for your period or you are bleeding more than usual, call your doctor back. Depression and anxiety are also side effects for some women who take it. Unless you have unmanageable hot flashes, I'm not sure it is necessary to put yourself through this!
5 mg I think, and it does help. I sleep much better and most of the hot flashes are eliminated, I do however still have some night sweats and occasionally the numb hand. I want to try to step down one more level but I don't know if I will ever get off completely. I started menopause very suddenly at 42 and I am now 57. It has been a struggle for me.
PS: I tried wearing a wrist support at night for a while and it seemed to help some. You might want to try that. I hope this helps.
I have burning and itching in vaginal area and horrible dry skin that also itches. I have been told to go on Prempro by my Dr. Does it help? I still have a uterus and I am afraid of HRT after all the hype i have heard. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated that worked for all of you that have suffered with this! Thank you!!!
I think I need an added progesterone, but I have been told PREMPRO has some hard side affects. Do any of you have suggestions? I noticed someone was on Climera and another was on the Vivelle w/ Prometrium. What dose of prometrium do you take?
While I still feel better than I did before my hyst. (pain wise anyway) there has to be some way to control these hot flashes!
