Avatar f tn "...nurse earlier told me that if my tests were normal..." What test? Did you have a fasting glucose test, blood sugar, urine glucose, glucose tolerance (GTT)? A hemoglobin A1c (HgbA1c) that most doctors use to determine whether the patient is pre-diabetic, a diabetic, or not at all. Answers to these question will help. Your correction to diet and exercise will play a large part in staying healthy. Keep it up, you'll like yourself more and feel a whole lot better too.

Avatar f tn I just received a call from the OB/GYN nurse that said the doctor wants to put me on 750mg of Metformin because my (I think) blood glucose levels was too high. I asked her what was the normal range and she said 0.0 - 24 and mine was a 27.8. What does that mean? She also said that my Vitamin D levels was low and that I needed to take a supplement that contains 5,000IU's daily in it. I was pretty much left like that. Not a whole lot of explanation or nothing!
Avatar n tn If the reading drops below that then he would feel unwell and have what is called hypoglycaemia and he would need to have something sugary or glucose tablets straight away. In the UK readings of If his readings of 125 mg/dl are considered as being Type 2 Diabetes and would either be controlled by diet or diet and medication. Sugar levels that are very high and can make the person very unwell need medical attention and this is called hyperglycaemia.

I have read type 2 diabetes can be avoided by correct diet & exercise. I am 62 years old , a bit overweight , & genetically disposed to late onset type 2 dibetes!
9138366 tn?1410253633 You failed the 1 hour one. Your sugar level was too high.
Avatar f tn Those levels were normal(normal c-peptide and normal glucose levels), although a glucose challenge may also provide some information regarding more subtle issues with glucose handling. Based on those test results and his family history etc I think he will need close monitoring and repeat testing at regular intervals to get a handle on any abnormalities before they start affecting his growth. You seem to be on top of everything, so I am sure you will ensure he gets the best care. Take care.
Avatar f tn So I have my 3 hour glucose test tomorrow morning is there anything I should do before my test???

1503643 tn?1311518238 Hi, Tammy. To over simplify things: if a person has cancer which has spread throughout their midsection, deep inside, then the PET scan would be the way to see that. It's like a full body scan all at once. But when spots "light up" on a PET, that might alternatively be inflamed lymph nodes. A PET scan works like this: they inject a radioactive glucose, then wait to see where it goes to and take the scan picture.
