I have been to several doctors who blew it off as a yeast infection. Does anyone know of any alternatives that work?
I was not comfortable with the dr so i went to see another one, he prescribed me famvir and told me to come back in 6 weeks for testing for herpes, though he saw nothing he could culture or anything indicative of herpes. The famvir relieved my symptoms though every time i go off it i get about 5 days of relief before symptoms start to come back. I also have had general (and painful) adenopathy since early feb. but dr dismissed it as no big deal.

there is a small percentage of folks who report more ob's while on valtrex. Why, we don't really know but it does happen ( nothing officially listed on the prescribing info about this - just things folks have mentioned over the years on the various boards ).
Yes you can and sometimes it happens. treat this one like you usually do ( or consider the 1 day dosing of famvir even ). if it takes longer than a week to heal or you get another ob soon afterwards, follow up on things wtih your provider to make sure you don't have anything else going on and to discuss treatment options.

I am also on Valtrex and I continue to get outbreaks but they last for a few days and then go away for weeks, sometimes months before I get another. My spouse who also has herpes does not take an antiviral so that is why I believe I still get my outbreaks. Are you still engaging in intercourse while having outbreaks, maybe that is whey they aren't getting better. Also, I'm not sure what famvir is, but maybe it is stronger than Valtrex and will help you.
just to Add 1 Point, i made the blood test after i stop the zovirax cream for 3 weeks
I absolutely do NOT agree AT ALL. What you did is not considered low risk - it is considered zero risk. And I don't know what herpes expert you are talking about, but starting Famvir at day 14 after contact would have absolutely no impact on contracting herpes. If you had come in direct contact with herpes and had taken the Famvir within an hour or two for several days, then maybe, yes.
i know that valtrex and famvir are different family of anti-viral's. has anyone had poor results with valtrex and had to change to famvir? i don't seem to be responding to valtrex or acyclovir so i might change.

your provider is once again prescribing you the wrong dose of famvir too. It is 1gm twice a day for 1 day to treat herpes recurrences. They are prescribing you the shingles doses which aren't needed for genital herpes. There is no benefit to treating for 7 days - most recurrences are almost healed on their own during that time.
side effects are the same with all herpes antivirals actually - they aren't higher with acyclovir.
Did you tested for HHV 6 ??
It is know to cause neuropathic symtoms.

It should've been 2 500mg famvir tablets to take 2x/day for 1 day. Is that what you were given or just 1 500mg pill?
We assume the other 2 antivirals, acyclovir and famvir , have similar results. anything you do that reduces shedding of the virus reduces the amount of times a partner is likely to come into contact with active herpes and all 3 herpes antivirals reduce shedding similarly.
Meaning if ive had oral herpes since i was a child, and what i suspect is my first outbreak of genital herpes, why are they occuring at the same time?
If i really am having genital herpes, is it possible that the first symptoms are occuring 11/12 weeks after exposure. Symptoms are discharge, itching, red blister.

I was so healthy for a few months I was thinking of getting off the famvir, but then cold weather hit and I have been sick on and off for about two months now (Sept and Oct). But I still get lesions and they don't culture them all, just once every few years to be certain.
I was switched to Famvir and that has still not cleared it. I am wondering if I am maybe not respondinig to anti-virals and if my outbreak may improve if I go off of them. have been now 5 months outbreak free (leading a really healthy lifestyle). My doctor prescribed me for my outbreaks famvir, 125 mg twice a day during 5 days.
I have a girlfriend and we have talked about this and both of us would like to make sex without condoms. We have sex each 2/3 weeks. I wouldnt like to take suppresive therapy daily, if we are having sex each 2 / 3 weeks (wich is very little).
Taking this in mind what would be considered an effective suppresive therapy?
I hope someone can help. I've had horrible recurring pain in my right eye for over a year. Went to Optho. multiple times and was told it was an infected oil gland. I was put on low dose antibiotics for over 6 months and told to apply warm compresses and scrub eye with a baby shampoo/water solution.
