Common Questions and Answers about What does chest tightness mean

chest

It feels like a band around my tummy sometimes. Does it get better with exercise. If so, more likely to be bad breathing. Of course chest tightness should be mentioned to a doctor. Must remember to take my own advice sometimes. Good luck.
I'm taking my 4th shot tomorrow. For the past three days I've had a tightness in the middle of my chest right under my breast bone/above my stomach. It doesn't hurt but it's uncomfortable and it comes and go throughout the day but I notice it more at night when I'm laying down. Has anyone experienced this feeling? The best way I can describe it is a feeling like someone is squeezing the inside of my chest. I have don't have any breathing problems.
it could be that you are more aware of your heart then most people, being this aware might make you more sensitive to feeling palputations or PACS. but because you feel this pulse does not mean there is something wrong with your heart. I do understand what you are going through but the way I look at it when i feel this pulse is at least i know it is beating and when it is steady i take comfort from it.
I have been having these spasm feelings in the chest area, mainly around the colarbone but sometimes in the center of my chest, plus periods that last about an hour where I feel like my chest is really tight. I have been to the ER twice with this and all was normal. I had a heart stress test and all that done about 2 months ago. In between these periods, my chest muscles, collarbone, under arms, sides of breasts, breasts, between shoulder blades are all sore to the touch.
VaBreeze - My symptoms began with cold/flu like symptoms - little bit of a fever and sore throat, etc. What does this mean? I've tried ibuprofen for the past week with no change so I'm now looking for a rheumatologist. The first one I called wasn't available until February! Durvis - have you had any luck or feel any better?
Micheal, I got the butterfly feeling in my chest, it follow with few beats, big dumps and tightness. My tightness in the chest can last half a day long. I discovered it could be a LBBB. Just my discovery. As everyone has LBBB is being told it is harmful and the Drs "DON'T CARE". I learn to live with it. Have a run, power walk or strong coffee. You may have luck!
I took antibiotic for two weeks and the pain on my chest go but right now i'm feeling shortness of breath, tightness on my chest, and chest burn with mild cough. Can someone help me what this might be now.
I had an ultrasound that showed a nodule on my thyroid. What does this mean? My doctor has ordered further blood tests and is sending me to a nose, throat and ear specialist who he said would use a needle to take fluid from the nodule to see what is going on there.

I thank you so much for your answer it has helped a great deal. The symptoms I experience are greatly intensified under "load" what I mean by this is that if I do a barbell overhead lift with 50lb weight for ten reps no problems are felt. If I do 15, even though it is not difficult to do my left side chest tightens considerably and I have difficulty breathing, it almost feels that I could go either way, recover or collapse.
Hx of anxiety/palpitations,sinus tachy up to 130-140,recorded on event monitors and in office ekg. Last year while on trip chest felt tight, around whole chest. No chest pain associated with these episodes. Started to panic, hr up to 130s. Upon seeing Dr. had echo/stress, ekg, chest x-ray, blood etc, repeated. EF% normal, no ischemia, all sizes wnl. All good, no changes. Possible allery or anxiety related was the thought. No asthma. Sinuses are swollen/congested.
My head hurt like it does constantly and I was dizzy, but this time I got hot and my chest was extremely tight. I was struggling to get a deep breath and was very weak. I went back downstairs and told my husband what was going on and he just told me to go to bed. So, I did. Today, I have been extremely dizzy and light headed - with some weird type of pressure in my head. It's the hardest thing in the world for me to try and explain. It's the weirdest feeling.
I did have a chest X-ray and EKG for what turned out to be a pulled chest muscle about 3 years ago. Both were fine. The one thing that seems to snap me out of it last time was just trying to really believe it was "nothing to worry about", and really relax and breath through my stomach. Which I did initially when lying down watching T.V. The next day I felt better, but of course it came back.
It hurts occasionally usually a stabbing or sore pain. and my chest feels tight. I currently am expereincing this as im writing this question. it feels as though when i inhale it's shallow, or as if when i breathe a breathe will just disappear. i feel like theres alot of things moving around getting tangled in my chest. i occasionally feel pops or clicks.
So where does that leave my constant cough, gagging sensation, tight chest, shortness of breath, ear pressure, and occasionally dizzy spells? I have experience some lost to my right ear. I have seen an ear doctor, an allergy doctor, a pulmonary doctor, and yet with all their test and studies none of them have been able to properly diagnose me or given me any effective medication. I need help understanding what is going on or what I need to do. This cough is coming between me and my family.
knock out caffeine and that does not just mean coffee..it means iced tea, sodas with coloring in them, hot chocolate, this means the big no no is no energy drinks, no drinks w.
you may have exercise-induced asthma; only thing i can think of. my boyfriend has it. the pain could be just generally from working your muscles, however i do feel the jaw pain could be a little odd. try to see a doctor. best of luck.
I have the same tightness in my throat- a full feeling. I also have tightness in the chest. I also get a flutter ffeeling in my heart when the tightness gets bad..had all heart test done on several occasions and all hearts tests were normal. I get shortness of breadth daily..it's like that same comment about breathing through a straw with a hole..! I have had thryoid level checked and that was normal. Chest xrays were normal..not sure what they look for when they read chest xrays.
and it seemed to lessen the diahorrea problem (along with the bran flakes that I was eating daily) I think my body has adapted to the codeine over the years and isn't contributing to the constipation, but I'm unable to taper off them as the chronic pain I experience without codeine means that I can't function on a daily basis. Can I ask what made you think it could be thryoid-related?
if I take the pulmonary function tests while my chest is tight and breath is short, and my results are normal, that means I dont have asthma right? Under the above circumstances, with shortness of breath, tight chest, etc. would an echo still show normal results even if i am unable to exercise? Lastly, Other than bloating I dont seem to notice other symtpoms from GERD.
i just took a cat scan and my dr. said i have mild lung scaring on top of one of my lungs. i am not sure what that means? what can cause that and should i be concerned about cancer?
I was told to live with the feeling in my neck. I CAN'T DO THIS ANYMORE!!!! Right now the neck is too tight, I have keep taking Advil which is not good to relieve this tightness. I feel like no doctor cares to help and that I'm the only person in the area with this problem. It all started around the time I was experiencing symptoms of mono before I was diagnosed. I see another endo in November.
Does your tightness in your chest come on all of a sudden at rest and if you do activity? My ribs and sternum do not really hurt though I do get a cramping, dull ache type of pain below my ribs and sternum. I notice if I sit down at the computer, chest tightening comes on and if I put my feet up on the coffee table, I get chest tightening and need to change position. Even get chest tightening just lying in bed or on the sofa. Activity makes the chest tightening worse.
and has happened here and there usually in the evening. But my upper back and chest get super tight and achy. Could this be b/c organs pushing up? I took an aspirin but not helping - just super uncomfy. I know they sometimes associate low back pain with pre-term labor - but what is up with the upper back (shoulder blade area) and chest?
