Common Questions and Answers about What does biaxin treat

biaxin

Avatar m tn Biaxin (clarithromycin) is an antibiotic related to azithromycin which is widely used to treat STIs however biaxin is not well studies for STI treatment or prevention. As a result, while it is likely that biaxin may be effective against common bacterial STIs, there are not good data to say this with confidence. Most women do not have STIS and it is unlikely that your partner had and STI or if she did, you may not have acquired one.
Avatar f tn The doctor took blood and did a throat culture, in case I had strep or mono. Neither was present. BUT he gave me a different antibiotic for the sinus infection called Biaxin, for acute sinusitis, which has been working wonders after one day on it. But I just read that Biaxin is given to HIV/AIDS patients for Mycobacterium avium complex!!!! Is it possible that he did an HIV test without my knowledge and is now trying to treat me for it????
723952 tn?1231857532 they are cyst-busters. I was on biaxin for that purpose (along with another med to kill the bugs after they came out of the cyst), but had a reaction to it after several months; so the dr switched me to flagyl and a different antibiotic. It's a fair question why the dr would give you two cyst busters. Sounds like a lot. Good luck with the new job!! Sounds like a good one.
Avatar f tn I want to quit the doxy but im told to just ride it out. I am wondering what exactly Doxy helps with? I kno biaxin helps with Bartonella for example. But what does Doxy do exactly for someone with late stage chronic lyme?
Avatar f tn Hi all, wondering if you have come across information indicating that flagyl can treat babesia at the same time it's treating Lyme. I understand it's also a antiparasitic, so not sure if that counts. If anyone knows or has heard their LLMD mention this please let me know. I just took my first dose of Flagyl, keeping my fingers crossed that I see some fantastic results!
90270 tn?1199334469 s asthma doctor requesting an appointment and describing what I wanted to do which was treat my son long-term with antibiotics. My son has now been on Biaxin 500 mg. twice daily for two weeks, and will take one more week of this dose and then go to 250 mg. Biaxin for 30 days with two refills. I bought Biaxin, no generic. My son played racquetball with my husband last night and for the first time did not have to stop to recover his breathing.
4939681 tn?1361299299 I started taking Biaxin 2 days ago for a horrible throat infection. Since then my muscles have been weak and crampy (especially my calves with restless leg syndrome as well). I also am having horrible stomach cramps and nausea and I get an overwhelming metallic taste in my mouth (almost like bile actually). And the insomnia last night was unbearable. I haven't had insomnia in over a year. Has anyone else experienced this with Biaxin?
Avatar m tn I am a man. Next day, having been prescribed Biaxin for bronchitis, I took four 500 mg pills at once. I know this was foolish, but I had panicked. 5 days later I developed an infected ingrown hair at the base of my penis. I am over forty, and I believe I know an ingrown hair when I see one - when I take Biaxin I get them all over my legs. Next day, the bump had not opened up into an ulcer. I saw a hair growing out of the middle of it, and squeezed the bump.
Avatar f tn What does your doctor say about it? Is it a neurological issue (where Lyme mimics diabetes insipidus) or an actual bladder problem? I had a couple rounds of excessive urination, but I haven't had incontinence so I don't know if I can be of much help. I wonder if you tried different meds if it would make any difference. I had a couple symptoms that started after I started treatment and my herxing has varied with different meds.
Avatar n tn On 05/05/08, I took Z-pak, 500Mg of Azithromacin first day, and 250MG for following 4 days for an unrelated sore throte. On 05/20/2008, I started taking Biaxin and Flagyl for 14 days to treat stomach issue. On 05/30/2008, I retested for only Genital herpes and it came back negative. Here are my questions.. 1. How accurate was the test done @ about a week and a half after exposure 2. If i did acquire one of the STI's, would the amount of antibiotic I took treat all of them? 3.
Avatar n tn I hope if you had/have infection, they tried to determine what kind of infection it was when they prescribed the Biaxin? Are you feeling any better?
Avatar m tn As I understand Methadone is broken down by an enzyme which is greatly retarded by Clairithromycin, this ay cause an overdose to occur in the user. I have been taking Methadone for 5 years now (was at 180mg/day now at 10mg/day) can I safely take the Clairithromycin? This discussion is related to Methadone and Biaxin.
Avatar f tn My LLMD prescribed it for me along with Biaxin, which is used to treat intracellular Lyme and Bartonella. He said that the Plaquenil makes the body more alkaline, which allows the Biaxin to more easily penetrate infected cells. He said P makes Biaxin up to 40% more effective. And so, that might explain why P helped your fingers, but not permanently. P eases inflammation, but does nothing against an infection.
Avatar m tn Oral gonorrhea is actually pharyngeal, i.e. the back of the throat. It is unlikely you would acquire it just by getting a little semen in the mouth, although I can't say it would be impossible. However, pharyngeal gonorrhea is usually (over 90% of cases) asymptomatic, with no pain or anything else. Here too there are exceptions, and once in a while it causes severe pharyngitis like yours. So the direct answer is yes, this could possibly be what you have. But it is very unlikely.
4939681 tn?1361299299 Plaquenil is often perceived as an anti-arthritis drug used to treat connective tissue disorders. What it does is make the body more alkaline. My doc explained that he prescribes it with Biaxin (Clarithromycin-an intracellular abx) because by making the body more alkaline, the Biaxin can more easily penetrate the body's cells, which makes it up to 40% more effective. There is the common belief that inflammation causes pain.
Avatar n tn I have read lots of your post concerning biaxin and azithromycin and whether they cure syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia and NGU. I have found that biaxin is chemically different than azithromycin but biologically same at killing bacteria as azithromycin. On some post you say that azithromycin or clarithromycin(biaxin) would cure all the bacterial stds then in others you state that there could be some problems. by H. Hunter Handsfield, M.D.
