avonex

1373852 tn?1307843048 In any case he wants me to start on avonex that is fine if I do have ms but if its some other disease the treatment might do me in because as of last week I have a high d dimer (blood clotting) so I am very worried
324913 tn?1302869517 There is really no right or wrong answer as to "when". It really does depend on what works out best for you, your life style, and how unmanageable the side effects are. Most Avonex users prefer just before going to bed to sleep off the side-effects but there are no requirements to remain awake, sitting, standing, etc that I was ever told about or experienced. It is only preferable to try to take each injection about the same time. It does get easier, Hang in there!
Avatar f tn I have tried Ampyra and it did not help me, it gave me really bad side effects such as shortness of breath. I don't take anything now and I am just hardly walking at all. I don't know what to do.
233622 tn?1279334905 I could still walk on my toes with both feet and go back on my heel on one foot. Now I can do none. Am I progressing? I am on Avonex and know it takes sometime to work but I am concerned because I have several new symptoms. I see my doctor in two weeks.
400099 tn?1282954864 Is anyone on avonex? My dr. wants to switch me to avonex, but with having lupus, I really don't want to go on an interferon. I'm on copaxone, now but because I have large welts on my arms he wants to switch me. I don't want to switch. Do I have the right to deny a new medication I feel would be detrimental to me?
1125401 tn?1262898927 re so right to not focus on what may or may not happen in your future. We have too much living to do today. As for the avonex, I can't answer your questions because I have only been on copaxone. I know Q and others who have been on Avonex talk about taking NASID's a hour or so before the injection and then heading to bed to sleep it off. From what I understand, your body will grow accustomed to the drug and the flu-like symptoms decrease over time.
1396846 tn?1332459510 I started Avonex 4 weeks ago yesterday. I have been doing ok with it. I do have the flu like symptoms but overall I am more tired than anything the day after taking it. My question is, can Avonex symptoms stick with you through the week. Since starting it I have had this head cold, congestion going on, not sure if it is just a coincidence or if it is possible that it is from the Avonex. I am not going to stop taking it or anything because it isn't that bad, it is just annoying me lol.
Avatar m tn I think I understand what you're asking. Avonex does not suppress (weaken) the immune system, it modifies it. That may sound like the same thing, but medically it is quite different. I see from your other forum questions that you are dealing with a lot of anxiety in the area of your sexual and immune system health. Your MS medication will not impact the accuracy of an HIV test. Neither will it (in the case of beta interferons like Avonex) compromise your immune system itself.
97654 tn?1214348650 The people here who have been dx with MS, and the ones who are still waiting to find out what they are dealing with all go through these emotional times and we do understand what your are experiencing and will do our best to help you to get through this difficult time!
233622 tn?1279334905 Hi, LA. I'm concerned about your doctor's statement that Avonex causes depression. It does in SOME people. Don't know the stats but I'm sure this is a relatively small minority. Lots of Avonex users do just fine. I'm one. MS itself causes depression, in SOME people. Certainly not all. I for one would not go on any med prophylatically unless I were sure I needed it. Look what happened with Prozac for you.
Avatar f tn 1) Has anyone taken a break from their medication for that long (and if so, any consequences) and 2) Has anyone switched from Avonex to Copaxone, and if so, how did you do? I still after all these years lose a day on the weekend due to the side effects of the Avonex and am hoping that will not be the result with Copaxone.
288459 tn?1201291329 I was dx in January & started Avonex in February. Prior to this I have always been known as very easy going. I work in a highly stressful job, but have for 15 years and I have always rolled with the punches. After my dx & starting Avonex I noticed myself becoming a bit testy. Now 8 months later I believe I am no longer able to roll with those punches. So my 2 parted question would be, does this sound remotely familiar to anyone and any suggestions to controlling emotions?
Avatar f tn Does anyone know of long-term side-effects of Avonex? I've had about 8 or 9 injections so far - was diagnosed a few mos. ago. I will see the (MS) dr. in 2 days, a 3 month follow-up visit. Does anyone know of any questions I should ask her? Thank you very much! I appreciate any feedback.
233622 tn?1279334905 It is good to know Avonex does not work in the same way.
Avatar n tn I have been on Avonex for 10 years. I am feeling pretty good. Very few ms problems. My gait is somewhat labored, I have intention tremor in my hands and some numbness on my left side. I am considering stopping my Avonex becausse of the cost. Have not seen my neurologist yet but want another persons opinion also.
