What does angiogram mean

Common Questions and Answers about What does angiogram mean

angiogram

Avatar n tn The only TVD I am aware of is Tricuspid Valve Dysplasia which is typically a congenital defect of the tricuspid valve which allows severe regurgitation back into the right side of the heart causing a fluid overload which can cause the right atrium and ventricle to become enlarged. Basically, the leaflets of the valve are thickened and can not close properly allowing blood to get pushed back in with each beat.

Avatar m tn Some people confuse the term 'groin' to mean the actual genitals. Is this what you are thinking? The catheter goes into the inside of your leg, near the top, to enter the femoral artery. If this is offtrack I apologist. The area is numbed of course and you are given medication to keep you relaxed. If I'm offtrack, some cardiologists can go through the wrist.
Avatar n tn What do you mean by a cardiac cath? aren't angiogram and cardiac cath the same thing?
Avatar m tn I totally agree. However, ask them to do FFR on the arteries which is a sensor that records blood flow. At first glance it looks as though the 80% blockage is causing all the issues, but it could be the 20%. If you mention FFR to the cardiologist he will know what you mean. If they give the excuse they don't have it, ask for a medical centre which does.
Avatar n tn is away for the holidays.... what does that score mean? I have chest pain frequently but they thought it was all in my head....
Avatar m tn The numbers you have posted are not really relevant to a blockage in all cases. For example, my LVEF is always 70% but it doesn't mean there is no ischemia. What is often observed as a giveaway is how slow the heart muscles is at relaxing each time it has pumped. I assume you have had some sort of symptom to prompt the tests?
Avatar f tn Sometimes the arteries become thin or weak, which increases the risk of an artery tearing during an angiogram. Does he have diabetes? If so, this would increase his risk. His LVEF is great! Left main artery is normal, which is the most important artery. Ask his doctor why they are recommending an angiogram and what they are looking for and intending to do.
Avatar n tn I would ask your husband's doctor WHY he does not want to remove the blockage. Because they don't address the cartoid artery does not mean you can't do it. Ask WHY they don't address the cartoid artery. Ask what the prognosis will be with surgery. Ask what your husband's prognosis will be withOUT surgery. You may have already posed these questions by now.
1145423 tn?1261404857 Thank you for your response and i appreciate, it gave a litlle because i understand better. but what does Only 4% of the cases has involvement of the "Callosomarginal Artery" bifurcation mean...does it mean its inoperable or just rare. Just needed you to clariffy that. And I meet with my neurosurgen and neuroradiologist 30dec so i will be asking for your help in determing the right questions to ask. They then plan to do the angiogram 4 days later tentivly.
Avatar n tn I had an ultrasound that showed a nodule on my thyroid. What does this mean? My doctor has ordered further blood tests and is sending me to a nose, throat and ear specialist who he said would use a needle to take fluid from the nodule to see what is going on there.
Avatar n tn Here is an excert from a site dealing with calcium scans, explaining to a patient what it does and what to expect.... "A cardiac CT scan for coronary calcium is a non-invasive way of obtaining information about the presence, location and extent of calcified plaque in the coronary arteries" So, it senses the calcium in 'calcified plaque'. "This material can calcify which signals the presence of atherosclerosis" The magic word here is 'can'.
Avatar f tn I had an echocardiogram a few weeks ago. The results (tests) made me a little uncomfortable and I couldn't quite understand them "perfectly". I wanted to know exactly what I had. I scheduled another appointment with the dr. and got there with my specific answers written down. Needless to say, it got me more relaxed and calm to have cleared everything out. Do not wait for someone on the internet to describe the meaning of this to you. The heart is important. Talk to your doctor.
Avatar n tn hey my dad is suppose to go in for an angiogram but he fears what might happen to him if he does. i was wondering if there was possible any alternative procedure or something else he could possibly do.
Avatar f tn the test was stoped i then had an angiogram which showed plaque disease and a few ventriclar ectopics i have high cholestral 6.
Avatar m tn A nuclear scan is pretty much useless on its own. What it does is aim at the heart muscle rather than the arteries. An area of heart muscle can look great but may be fed by collaterals with your native arteries being a real mess. I have a nuclear scan which showed the heart of an athlete. I had 2 blocked native arteries and lots of collaterals, but my angina was awful. I'm just wondering if you've ever had a lung function test?
Avatar f tn Mild ischemia (reduced blood flow) to the area stated. When one excercises (or under stressful conditions) the heart requires more blood oxygen, and almost always the problem is due to narrow coronary vessels caused by some blockage causing chest pain (angina). Your heart is pumping a normal output so that isn't contributing to the ischemia. Normal EF is 55-75% and that is the amount of blood pumped out with heartbeat.
Avatar n tn It does not mean it will show what the problem is, but it will show if you have any significent blockages in your arteries. My catherization didn't show any significent blockages, so I had a Echocardiogram and I won't know the results of that untill next week. The cath test is very good, no more pain except the insertion of the IV, and with the meds they give you, you do not really remember much. Even though I was awake, I still do not remember much and it was over before I knew it.
Avatar f tn I am scheduled for an Angiogram next week. My question is what does this all mean? Also had mild regurgitation in valves. Should I be concerned.
Avatar n tn It looks like your heart has been suffering from hypertension. This would explain the hypertrophy and the diastolic dysfunction. Once your blood pressure is under control, the hypertrophy and LV diastolic dysfunction could improve to normal values again. Your aortic valve leaflets are degenerated although nothing is said about leakage. Therefore I assume that the valve still opens and closes well. Your aortic valve's condition is most likely not caused by the high blood pressure.
