Common Questions and Answers about What antibiotics to use for sinus infection

antibiotics

Avatar f tn Sinusitis is really very easy to deal with if you understand a couple of basic points. First, you don't want to kill only SOME of the bacteria. Different antibiotics kill different bacteria. When you take one, you kill only some and the others take over their space leaving a fauna that is more difficult to kill. Second, all sinuses have fungus. These guys insulate the bacteria from your immune system and keep them out of reach of the antibiotics. Antibiotics won't kill fungus.
Avatar f tn Have any of u had a sinus infection during pregnancy? What over the counter meds did the doc tell u that was safe?
Avatar f tn What you have described fits sinus infection which has to be treated with nasal decongestants and antibiotics usually. You have to visit your doctor for a prescription for an antibiotic. Amoxycillin seems safe, provided you are not allergic to it. Depending on your age and weight the dosage can vary. But it is given 8 hrly for a week or so. Don't you have a free government hospital around to visit?
Avatar n tn Try to get in to see the doc. No use feeling lousy all weekend. I had one sinus infection with no real congestion but really bad head pain and headaches, which got worse if I bent over.

Avatar f tn s time to see your family doctor as you may have a sinus infection and they may need to give you antibiotics. Like somebody else said above you can use a humidifer to help keep your nasal passages draining. I know you don't want to do this either but drink lots and lots of water. The water will help your "secretions" thin out and drain. Unfortunately it's going to take a little for your sinus' to dry up. So sorry you are sick and hope you feel better soon.
1348686 tn?1310654243 I did post a question about alternative treatments for sinus infections in the sinus forum and I heard about the neti pot. I was just wondering if anyone has tried anything else to help clear up a sinus infection? I have had one for over a month now and 2 courses of antibiotics didn't help. I know that my allergies play a huge part in me getting these infections but this one doesn't seem to want to leave.
Avatar f tn Was your wife told that she was allergic to the antibiotics or is she drug-resistant? There is a huge difference. Pseudomonas is typically a very hard bacteria to kill and becomes drug resistant when antibiotics are used very often. My daughter had pseudomonas several months ago and had to have her ear swabbed and cultured. The pseudomonas was resistant to all the drug classses but the newest cyclosporin. She has had chronic ear infections since she was a baby (she's 13).
242516 tn?1368223905 The flu has passed epidemic rates in much of the country, and if you don't have a cold, I'm sure you have a friend who has the sniffles, fever, chills, aches and pains of a viral upper respiratory infection. This is different from a bacterial infection such as sinusitis, bronchitis, or pneumonia. A viral infection doesn't improve with antibiotics as these infections do. A virus hijacks your own body's healthy cells and uses it to reproduce and spread.
3185867 tn?1348434443 What is safe to use with a yeast infection? I herd nothing that goes in ur vagina is that true? Please let me know i need to grt ridd of this.asap its killin me!!
Avatar f tn If the doctor gave you an antibiotic without running any tests, they were negligent. You are not supposed to give antibiotics for viruses, because they won't work on them. And if you possibly have spinal meningitis, they should be testing you for that and seeing if it is viral or bacterial in nature. I believe it is typically accompanied with high fever. Meningitis can be life threatening, so if you still think you might have that get to the doctor ASAP!
11970398 tn?1443134602 I went to the doc today for a sinus infection, bronchitis and ear infection :/ they gave me antibiotics for the infections and mucinex for the bronchitis. How far are you? They said because I was in third trimester that it was safer to take antibiotics.
Avatar f tn I've been dealing with what I thought was a sinus infection for the past week. Today was the first day I had relief from unrelenting facial pain without the need of painkillers. I was blowing out of lot of bloody mucus throughout the week, and today I blew out something from my nose that had the same feel of latex skin (link to a picture of it is provided below).
Avatar m tn There can be fistulas also sometimes. Treatment involves use of antibiotics, sinus washings to cleanse the sinus from infection and other specific management depending on the situation. A dental examination is absolutely necessary. If you are not satisfied with your dentist’s opinion seek another opinion. I hope it helps. Best luck and regards!
Avatar f tn Has anyone had a sinus infection while pregnant? If so, were you able to take anything? Im 11 weeks pregnant and beginning to feel miserable.
Avatar f tn They did diagnose her with a sinus infection (which is probably true) but they only continue putting her on different antibiotics which make her sick but she takes because does not know what else to do. These symptoms have been bothering her now of and on for several month and I am concerned she may need an operation or something. Medical treatment is hard to come by and not without traveling far. So I was hoping I could get some info from you.

Avatar f tn I went to the ENT to be treated for a bad sinus infection, not my worse ever, but bad enough. The doc took a nasal swab culture to be tested for hflu bacteria. (He says these infections are common after a hurricane blows through.) My test results came back negative this morning. It said “no significant isolate”. I have felt bad for six days now. I was put to on prednisone and Ceftin antibiotic. The meds are working.
Avatar m tn sinusitis, firstly because I have been through all of this for many years and have taken courses of antibiotics in the past for up to 3 months without success, and secondly you sound like you have a sinus infection which is different to sinusitis which is inflammation of the lining of the sinus cavities, and is not treated by antibiotics at all.
436973 tn?1217947089 t work in the upper sinuses, because gravity is more powerful than the force you can safely use to squirt it up to your upper sinuses. By now, the bacteria are close to being drug-resistant.
5915949 tn?1396188227 They say its a class B which means there arent any studies whether its safe or not. 16wks and have a sinus infection and I'm wondering has anyone taken a Z-pack for antibiotics and had any complications?
1418362 tn?1282203044 Can penicillin based antibiotics (Amoxicillain) worsen a sinus infection caused by allergies toPpennicilium, Cladasporium and Asperilligus molds? I am allergic to several molds, and have recently been prescribed Amoxicillin for a sinus infection caused by allergies. The mucus has cleared up from green to white, but my allergy symptoms are also worse and I am having severe diarhea which has left me weak, faint and exhausted.
