Avatar f tn CoQ10 is a amino acid that aids absorption for some. I do not take it - but considering your mineral lab work a good well absorbed Zinc/Mag/ and Copper supplement would be helpful to you. I would consider a citrate form of the supplement though and my thought is to skip the CoQ10 for a while. Your Iron is pretty low too which I would assume if you had a ferretin test that would be off also. Do you have previous thyroid lab tests ? What are they?
393685 tn?1425812522 Vitamin C Vitamin C supports the immune system, increases the absorption of iron, aids in protein metabolism and acts as an anti-oxidant. An anti-oxidant protects cells from damage caused by free radicals --compounds formed in the body through reactions with oxygen.
Avatar m tn Too much zinc is toxic, which is why the supplements you're seeing have so little. I assume the one she has she's supposed to suck on or chew -- this is done to get zinc into the system quickly, for example when you have a cold or flu. Warts are caused by a virus. I also assume this is only for a very short period of time.

988694 tn?1332359479 Since you are not taking anything other than thyroid meds, I have no idea what may be causing the drop in FT4 and FT3 levels. In view of what the good thyroid doctor suggested, I would not be hesitant to increase dosage to relieve symptoms. It's not the dosage that is important but, instead, getting the FT3 and FT4 levels high enough to relieve symptoms.
Avatar f tn ...even though I'm low on zinc too. Once my iron gets to normal levels (if it ever does) I can lower my doses of iron and then I'll be able to take iron in morning and zinc at night. Just so you know not to load up on zinc if your iron is low!

Avatar m tn You may need to increase stomach acid with betaine HCI (hydrochloric acid) with pepsin supplements for better absorption. Vitamin C also helps with absorption which i found interesting. From the Endo Society: "Absorption of thyroid drug levothyroxine improves with vitamin C" "Certain medications and digestive diseases interfere with the absorption of levothyroxine, but often malabsorption occurs for unknown reasons, Licht said.
4274823 tn?1388529098 I have read on this forum that Vitamin C aids iron absorption. The liquid iron I take has Vitamin C in it as as a B vitamins. When consuming foods with iron how does one know what to consume that contains enough vitamin C to help the body absorb the iron? I am a vegetarian with hypothyroidism. I am not on thyroid medication. I understand iron is important to thyroid function. I'm trying to support my thyroid by increasing my ferretin (iron). My iron stores are reduced.

464790 tn?1255369345 Some vitamins and minerals prevent proper absorption of thyroid meds, as do some foods - I know calcium does for sure, so I always make sure I separate any vitamins and/or minerals from my thyroid med by at least 4 hours because I'm not sure which ones do prevent absorption and which don't - I don't want to take any chances. .... also avoid foods with a lot of calcium (milk, yogurt, etc) for at least 4 hours.
Avatar f tn Zinc is a mineral and as such is water soluable (your body takes what it needs and excretes the rest), and it is also good for your baby, so if you're not feeling well, go ahead and use those lozenges. Hope you feel better soon.

Avatar m tn There are many causes of inability to gain weight like worms in stool, depression, anorexia nervosa, AIDS, cancers especially colon cancers, drug abuse, infections and loss of appetite. Loss of appetite can again be due to certain medications, drug abuse, depression, AIDS, acute and chronic infections, cancers and hypothyroidism. Either you do not eat well or there is increased metabolism as in hyperthyroid states, HIV, cancer etc.

Avatar m tn it looks like vitamin E can both boost immune system more than what we have seen on vitamin d, of course this will not make a big difference but both vitamin e and d have no sides http://www.annals.org/content/128/2/156.2.full Pietro Andreone, who made this trial, is a very expert immunologist and liver specialist, i ve seen he made all drugs trials on hbv and he is now making this trial http://www.cytheris.com/Clinical_Trials/hbv.
