wellbutrin XL 150mg works really well for me for two weeks of the month, and then I drop into a really bad pre-menstrual cycle of hopelessness, moodiness, rage even. I'm planning to ask a doctor about upping my meds for those two weeks. The thing is, for the two weeks it's working, wellbutrin is really great. No side effects for me at all. No weight loss, unfortunately, but I didn't gain either (been on it for over a year now). and my libido is much stronger.
Can wellbutrin XL cause nightmares? I have noticed since I have been taking it since November 16th that I have nightmares every night.
I had a similar reaction when I went off of wellbutrin several years ago after losing some weight while taking it - I actually split my jeans I gained so fast when I went off it. I would do a very slow weaning from it this time. I am actually on it again to try and quit smoking. I have gained weight while on it and am afraid that I might gain more when I go off it again. I am older now, though, so I think that might be the difference. natural metabolism slowdown.
my doctor changed me from Lexapro to wellbutrin for the exact same reason, I have been on it a couple of months now.....no weight loss, extreme constipation...loss of sleep and I certainly don't feel as well as I did on Lexapro, but just like you, I was on Lexapro for eight months and I gained over 25 lbs, if it wasn't for the weight gain itself...I would go back on Lexapro. I go back to the doctor next month (October), I'll see what she suggests.
Has anyone switched from Lexapro (or like SSRI) to wellbutrin XL for Anxiety or more specifically, Social Anxiety? If so, what were the results? My Dr. wants me to try Effexor if this doesn't work, but I'm not excited about the reported side effects. If I gain any more weight I'll be even more depressed. Also, my Dr. won't give me Benzos since they're potentially addicitive. I tried Xanax in the past and it worked so well! Sigh... Thanks for any help!
After searching the internet and coming up with nothing time and time again about this mix... I am left in a slight dilemma. Firstly,I take wellbutrin XL 150 mg per day for depression. I find it is working well for me. It does not cause me to be agitated at all. In fact, I feel totally normal on it. It has had the opposite effect on me I find, making me more relaxed or sleepy at times. I take the wellbutrin XL at 8am everyday. By the time 5pm rolls around, I want to hit the gym.
) I've done a LOT of research on anti-depressants/anti-anxiety drugs and weight gain/weight loss. To answer your question, it can be both. weight gain only happens in about 25% of people taking antidepressant meds. This can be due to feeling better/enjoying food more and/or from changes in metabolism/appetite as a side effect of the meds.
the transition to wellbutrin was very smooth. I did not observe any sexual side effects with wellbutrin. for a period of time I took 150 mg thrice a day i.e. 450mg a day. It was great. In comparison to other meds I have taken before. I currently take 1 tab of 300mg XL in the morning have been on this dose for a year..its working for me. I would recommend that you try it a few days. It takes about 6-8 weeks to see results.
I have started taking Effexor a few months back and started a diet also (weight Watchers). I have managed to loss 19 lbs but did hit a plateau for about 3 weeks. The Effexor did wonders for me mentally and so far I have managed to stay on the diet. I hope that I can continue.
Please help me, I am taking well xl 150mg for a week now. I have been having balck sopts in my vision and my eyes are very blurry!!!! It is scaring me, my doctor says stay on it. I feel better except for not seeing well and that anxiety that it's causing. Of course that is huge. HI I just read your post. I was taking Toprol xl for over a year for sinus tach. My pharmacy switched me to the generic brand. 2 weeks later I started getting skipped beats (PVC I presume). I had never had them before. Went to the cardio and he didn't think it could be the generic brand, but switched me back to Toprol. It has been almost a month and I am still getting pvc's. I do believe it was the generic. If we don't complain, then no one will know.
I had no sex drive before the wellbutrin, now i do...I cant say enough for wellbutrin and how its worked for me, but just because its right for me..does not mean its right for you...
adds Welbutrin XL 300 mg to regulate my mood and help with the crying jags I guess ...now I am experiencing insomnia, trembling hands, ringing in the ears and instead of helping I am getting awfully agitated at times....someone please help!! I feel like I am on a roller coaster... I just started the 300 mg of Welbutrin XL maybe I should give it some time....what do you think! I am also on Vitamin D3 1000 a day and Calcium 1000 a day and multivitamin....
I have been on 100mg of Topamax since the end of April. I immediately experienced the loss of appetite. I seaked the advice of a naturopath to use it to my advantage because I had about 80 pounds to lose. I see him every Friday and since then, I have lost 43 pounds...:-) It has not been difficult. It seems like he weight is coming off on its own now. I don't crave anything. I'm hoping to reach my goal by January.
I have been on a cocktail of Topamax (from 50 to now 100 mg) a day, wellbutrin XL (450 mg) a day and now Busbar 15 mg a day for about a year. The Topamax has been to keep my weight down with the Anti-depressants, which has been difficult in the past. That has been quite successful, I'm the thinnest I've been in a long while. But I'm noticing that my thick curly blond hair has now become straw and thin. Does this has to do with the Topamax? Should I stop? Please advice.
i also am thinking of getting off welbutrin. i know that it is every other day to get off the med but how long to you go every other an also when do you start every 3rd day. how long does it actually take to eventually dose down to nothing.
I was told by my phys. that Lexapro would not cause a weight gain while taking it for slight depression. If it causes weight gain, I need to get off this stuff. Please provide feedback.
I tried Effexor and liked it except for the awful sexual side effects. Lost all want for sex! My DR then put me on wellbutrin XL 300mg/day. I am angry all the time and have gained probably 10 pounds in the last month. I am afraid to speak to anyone at work because all I can do is snap. I bark orders at my husband and have no idea WHY. I know it can take several tries before the perfect med is found, but I am tired of the roller coaster on the way there.
I see SO many people say they gained weight but I wonder what percentage of people that is overall. Of course wellbutrin is known for weight loss and it would have to be the one time I didn't get a side effect that I wanted! LOL!
I'm mainly worried about weight gain... I've read that Welbutrin XL causes weight loss.. Any feedback for that one will be good too. Thanks!
I went today for my first week weight check and my second shot.....my weight loss for my first week is 9.5 pounds!!!! Anyone else using Phentermine and B12? I would love to hear how other people have done on these meds. Good Luck to everyone trying...I want to hear your story!
Celexa is a good antidepressant, I am also on Celexa with 300mg of Effexor XL and have had good success. The valium 5 mg. is also a low dosage. Normally Valium is given for short term treatment of anxiety because it is addicting. My guess is he will eliminate the Valium eventually and increase her other meds. I am no doctor but this is my guess. It sounds like she has a p-doc that will attack her depression agressively and that is goodthing..get it out'a here!
I have been on Lexapro for a few years with no weight gain. You need to give it time to build up in your system and if after 4-6 weeks you're not feeling better, contact your doctor. They always start us out on a low dosage which usually has to be increased at some point to be therapeutic for us. Unfortunately, it is often trial and error as to what will work for eack of us as we all react differently to these types of medications. Once you find the right one, it is well worth it!
My doctor perscribed wellbutrin XL (150 mg)for now and after a week up the dosage to 2 pills per day. What kind of side affects can this medication have? The little sample bottles don't come with any of that information and when I asked my doctor, she said that their is no side affects that she knows of. I'm pretty healthy, other then the pain and aches you get when you are over 50. My father though had a heart attack and so did his father.
The other symptoms I have are definite loss of hair, dry hair, some memory loss, and depression. I'm taking wellbutrin XL, but that's to help me focus on handling the affairs of my Mom who has dementia and also the affairs of my handicapped brother. A little overwhelming. I'm 65 yrs old, working full time and went through a nasty divorce at 60, so I don't think the depression has anything to do with the thyroid problem. I'm due to have blood work at the end of March to check my TSH again.
oh, and just like you, i am not on it for weight loss, but would love to loose some weight. I am gonna not be so bashful and out loud hope for a loss of about 50lbs..... Take care......
thanks if you mean for headaches I can't help you much, I take it for seizures. But if you mean for weight loss, yes, I also take Bontril and weekly B-12/ Hcg injections. I have lost about 20 lbs since June 1.
Thanks everyone for putting my mind at rest. I had been on effexor xl since August last year, and my doctor changed me over to Zispin just 2 weeks ago. Effexor worked really well for a short-time (I was on prozac before that which were useless for me) but I just seemed to be taking a nose dive. Since then I've had really strange side effects, more lucid dreams, strange sensations when moving my eyes, cold type symptoms and tearfulness (I even cried when watching a holiday programme!!!
Im worried about the memory loss and inability to form sentences mostly!!! I am hoping for a weight loss but wont put too much hopes on it. I am like a diet coke addict! SO it would be shocking if it ends up making that taste bad if thats true?
The headaches have improved and I can't wait until the FDA officially approves it for weight loss. So what if the soda tastes bad. Who needs it.
