Wellbutrin xl brand name vs generic

Common Questions and Answers about Wellbutrin xl brand name vs generic

wellbutrin

Avatar n tn Buproprion is just the chemical name for the brand name Wellbutrin. Buproprion SR means Substained Released. Indeed the generic could be not working, I've seen this happen in some people. Better check this out with his doctor.
Avatar n tn Many patients also reported a loss of antidepressive effect. Patients who thereafter switched back to Wellbutrin XL or an alternative generic (such as Bupropion XL manufactured by Watson Pharmaceuticals) saw a return of the antidepressive effect and lessening of side effects.
656309 tn?1224489859 I went from brands name Wellbutrin SR 150 mg once a day, which made me energized and active, to brand name Wellbutrin XL 300 mg once a day. Now I am sleepy, lethargic and there is no buzz or energy at all. What's up??
Avatar n tn Can you please tell me if Wellbutrin XL will help with anxiety issues. Or can the medication Cymbalta be of better use?
Avatar f tn Hello, i was taking Wellbutrin Xl 300mg for 2 yrs. the last 6 months i was taking a generic brand. However, i became very depressed i the last 2 months. i was hospilized 3 weeks ago. They took me off of Wellbutrin and now i take Celexa and Remeron. However, i dont like their side effects. So today i switched back to Wellbutrin. Can i do this? i took it around 9:20am this morning, then 20 min later i began to feel lightheaded and my heart was racing. Is this normal?
Avatar m tn TEVA is currently under its second investigation by the FDA after reports of their generic for Wellbutrin XL "not working properly." I didn't know Effexor had a generic already. I was taking this until December 2009, and I was getting the brand name only- for 37.5, 75, and 150 mg capsules. You really would have to try both to see if one truly works best for you.
Avatar f tn There are some medications that have a recognized difference between brand name and generic, and there are some brand name drugs that do not have generics because they were too difficult to produce. The medication will be out of your system in less than 5 days. As far as lasting effects, it is difficult to say. Like I mentioned, I have not heard of this happening before and have no personal experience with it.
Avatar n tn What was the explanation? Read up on the med and what the company advises. Are you on name brand or generic? There IS A DIFFERENCE!!!! Taken at night it could affect your sleep. Read up on other forums and what individuals have found out about using WB.
Avatar n tn Yes, I know that Toprol XL is the brand name extended release version of metoprolol. However, there is a generic equivalent called metoprolol er, which I assume his doctor gave him. I have read many posts on this forum where users indicate that switching from Toprol XL to metoprolol er still report having problems. The generics are not always as good as the brand name ones.
Avatar f tn Hi everyone----So I began taking generic Wellbutrin 150 xl trend by the manufacture Par Pharm nine days ago. Until yesterday I had zero symptoms or side effects from the new med. I am a 30-year-old overall healthy female who was prescribed this medication for migraines, occipital neuralgia, and moderate depression due to the prior mentioned. Wow, do headaches and migraines hurt, ugh...no wonder I was mild/moderately depressed.
Avatar f tn I have one more question are one on the generic brand or name brand? Does it make a difference? Thanks for all your help.
4951398 tn?1365456743 I have been on wellbutrin xl (generic) 300mg for a couple of months and in october i started bleeding 7 days before I was supposed to start my period. In November it was 12 days earlier andni had bleeding for 17 days. Now its December and cycle is supposed to start on the 13th....well guess what spotting started on the 5th and getting heavier. Im 34 yrs old been regular for ever, not on birth control pills and not pregnant.
1110049 tn?1409402144 This is one of those never ending debates (generic vs brand). Doctors are pretty resistant to believe that there is ANY difference and are quick to say "it's in your head", and that simply isn't ALWAYS the case. The truth is, there ARE differences. They are complicated and hard to explain, but they are there.
Avatar f tn Four-hundred mg is generally as high as most doctors will go (as per the PDR, I believe), but I've known people who were prescribed on as much as 450 mg. Going higher than this recommended limit increases risk of seizures. Your doctor also needs to assess your general medical condition, any other meds that you may be on, etc. My personal experience is there's no difference between generic and brand-name, aside from cost (and co-pay).
Avatar n tn Let me clairify. Venlafaxine is the exact same active chemical that is in Effexor XR. The difference is (and this is a huge difference when were talking Venlafaxine) that Effexor XR is an extended release formula. This is where the "XR" terminology comes from. Meaning Extended Release. The Generic Venlafaxine has no Extended release properties to it such as Effexor XR.
Avatar m tn In fact, my plan pays for brand name drugs, so I ask for brand for everything - xanax, ambien...I returned the unused amount back to my drug store the next day and made them apply my co-pay to the brand. Funny about the dexedrine - I'm assuming that a psychiatrist is writing this script for you? My psych. asked if I wanted dexedrine when I was gaining too much weight on mirtazepine...and we're only talking about gaining 10 - 15 lbs.!!!
Avatar n tn I do not think I am the one to answer this question. On one hand, I understand why you want to continue with the medication, on the other hand, allergic reactions can be serious. Sorting out whether the reaction is dose related, or related to some ingredient of the extended release package, is something for you and your doctor to do together, and carefully. Please don't experiment on your own, or simply react to something you have read about the product.
Avatar m tn Hi, I was put on generic form of Effexor, but when I saw a second doctor, he asked why I had been changed from Effexor to the generic form (forget its name). I said the doctor I usually see had put me on it, and I presumed it was cheaper. This 2nd doctor looked it up, and said there was little difference in the cost, and would I like to go back on Effexor XL? I said yes. That was a year ago, and I am still on 150mg Effexor XL. I feel really well.
Avatar n tn I take synthroid and was wondering if the generic is just as good? Someone told me to never take the generic so I pay extra for the name brand. TIA!
Avatar f tn s a tad more complicated than is appropriate for this forum) There has been a VERY long lived debate about the efficacy of generic vs brand name meds. For most people, they seem to be able to use either interchangeably with little or no difference in the effectiveness. For other people, they report a BIG difference in the effectiveness of the generic and have to stick with a brand name, sometimes even a specific brand name. Some meds have more of a reputation for this than others.
