I have been experiencing short term memory loss and having a hard time concentrating, can't stay focused? Anyone else having that?

Hi - I have a pretty extensive background, but will try to make this as short & easy to comprehend as possible. I'm a 33 year old single mom who has struggled with "mental issues" for many years. At the age of 15 I was placed on Prozac for depression. Over the next 15 years I tried Zoloft, Paxil, Lexapro, and several others.

Anyway, Ive been dealing with depression/anxiety symptoms for months now (since before september) and finally just swallowed my pride and went to the doctor this past friday, she put me on Wellbutrin XL, 150 mg, I was just wondering if anyone has had side effects...ive also been told that most people lose weight on it?? I just wanted some feedback about Wellbutrin, and if its worked for you??

If you did have a decrease in cravings and noticed weight loss, do you recall how long after starting WELLBUTRIN XL you experienced this? Was it within the first week or first month, first couple of months? Best of luck to all of you. It is so fantastic to find blogs discussing real and serious issues and questions. Unfortunately, so much of what we report doesn't match what the drug companies release so that we end up knowing more than our doctors and pharmacists.... serious problem!

I just discovered this after 3 months of total misery, 7 different doctors, multiple tests, 1 hospitalization, 16 pound weight loss, almost lost my job, etc., etc., etc.. I want to know if this will have permanent effects on my body and heart and will I ever be the same again. I still don't feel 100% and have been back on the brand TOPROL XL for 9 days now.

I feel he is verbally, emotionally, and mentally abusive himself. I am having short term memory loss and also feel like I am having deja vu. I now question everything wondering if it did happen or not but I do not hear voices and am not suicidal. I KNOW FOR CERTAINTY that he had been harrassing me wanting me to question my stability and he has the assistance of a friend and relative.

The other symptoms I have are definite loss of hair, dry hair, some memory loss, and depression. I'm taking Wellbutrin XL, but that's to help me focus on handling the affairs of my Mom who has dementia and also the affairs of my handicapped brother. A little overwhelming. I'm 65 yrs old, working full time and went through a nasty divorce at 60, so I don't think the depression has anything to do with the thyroid problem. I'm due to have blood work at the end of March to check my TSH again.

You may want to read some of the thing written on using low levels of wellbutrin xl for the ADHD. It helps with anxietey, depression and focus. Downside is that no one knows how or why welbutrin works. Regarding the dyslexia experiment with the different collors of clear plastic that you can use as a cover sheet? What type of dyslexia do you have? I can read really well but I mix some letters and numbers up when writing.

Hi to all you Topamaxers! ;) I am new to this forum and thought I would share my story. I am on Wellbutrin XL 300 mg and Topamax 25 mg (going up to 50 next week) once a day for depression/anxiety. I was on Wellbutrin and Lexapro for two months, but that combination made me GAIN 10 pounds in a month! I felt like eating all the time, and it didn't make sense to me since Wellbutrin is supposed to cause weight loss!

But I just have a meter, and can regulate that myself and am not insulin dependant. I have short term memory loss, and often can't focus on a particular thing someone is asking. Eg. If it's a Wednesday, and my manager asks me what I worked on Monday, I won't know. It will take me a long time to figure it out......It's so embarrasing! Is this normal? Often my headaches can be so bad I want to scream, and I just want the pain to stop. I've been given medication for Major Depression Disorder.

Many, many, many people take Wellbutrin and have never had that type of reaction and are very happy. In fact you may see a little loss of weight not gain. Wellbutrin is one of the better antidepressents out there.

Sorry it's been so long!!! I came to post and realized the last thread was full, so found that you made a new one..thank goodness! Glad to see many more of you have joined to talk about your successes w/ Topamax...isn't it great? I've now been bumped from 75mg (from the last post...about a month ago) to 200. I was on a combo of Wellbutrin XL and Topo but for me the combo was not working (Wellbutrin would make me really "witchy" and irritated).

My doc put me on Wellbutrin XL 150 mg once a day but it's not really helping. I still get very distracted and can't focus on just one thing. Are there any adults that have experienced success with other medications? I already take Omega-3 fish oils, B-complex, etc. and exercise 30 min./day Thanks!

I do know that when I first started taking Wellbutrin XL it made me so sick to my stomache that I'd lose my breakfast 3 times a week for 3 months and I lost 40 lbs that way; but I really would not recommend that.lol. Good Luck.

Mental consequences: Increased addiction (ciggerettes, caffeine), increased anxiety when not on drug, agitation with extremely hyper people, losing sight of the "big picture" and often times spending too much time hyper-focusing on the little tasks...I miss alot of my old flaws...

Large nerve fiber tests are normal. The burning is sometimes unbearable, resulting in loss of job, and inability to do normal life activities. Opiates provide little to no relief and are not a desirable option. IV Lidocaine provided no relief and during treatment, made symptoms worse. Currently on 600 mg neurontin tid, 10 mg ambien for sleep, klonapin for anxiety. Anti-depressants make symptoms worse and add other unpleasant side affects.

I was taking both Wellbutrin XL and Effexor XR and was just tired of taking so many medications ( I am also on hormone replacement therapy). The side effects I had from Effexor were not that totally bad; sweating and being hot when nobody else was, decreased sexual feelings, not as intense orgasms. I had quit about a year ago but don't remember feeling like this at all. For the past two weeks I have just felt awful, like the flu never went away.

Each reduction has led to several days of dizziness, sickness, brain zaps, memory loss.....you name it, I had it. However I have found that ginger capsules have helped alot with the nausea and dizziness. I have tried to keep at least a month in between each reduction and just hope and pray that by the time I am done that I won't need anything else, but if I do then I plan on trying the naturapathic way before I go back on any more pharmacuetical options.

My doctor told me that I am going through a p/p depression and put me on Wellbutrin XL last month. Im doing o.k on it but I hate being on any kind of meds so I am anxious to get off of it asap. My advice to you is... if you notice that you are having crying spells all day long and you are feeling depressed then talk to your doc. I waited entirely too long to get help. Then I was switched to Wellbutrin XL. I used Clonazepam for sleep. I am currently weaning off of both. I am on a every other day on the Wellbutrin XL and cold turkey on the Clonazepam. I have constant headaches and starting yesterday dizziness. I have not taken clonazepam for over a week now. I am determined to get through this. Not one single DR, every mentioned the possiblility of seizure. I wish they would tell us EVERYTHING before they start us on medications.

There are meds for depression. You need to get thee to a dr. and get something. I swear by Wellbutrin xl and I have a friend who feels the same way about Lexapro. You don't have to feel this way- depession is a horrible way to live. BUT you don't need those evil opiates to combat it- in the long run you know in your heart of hearts that they will only make things worse.. You have been a rock here for many. YOU ARE A WOMAN! He decided all the tingles, numbness, memory loss, etc. was due to depression and anxiety with panic. I have a very long history of it. Thats why I decided to take this. In your case it could be rare s/e. But if it doesn't go away, don't let up on the doctors to find out why it's going on. If I begin to feel better mentally but yet the physical symptoms remain then I'm going to have them dig deeper. All of my physical symptoms began 8 months ago. My depression and anxiety began 15 years ago.
