Wellbutrin xl and hair loss

Common Questions and Answers about Wellbutrin xl and hair loss

I have read a number of blogs including this one that indicate that hair loss is a side effect yet the Wellbutrin trials only listed hair loss as a side effect for less than 1% of patients. Given the U.S.
when i took wellbutrin, it made my hair fall out also.....i did 2 things; 1. stopped taking it, and 2. began taking Centrum Silver. the Centrum Silver has helped with my hair. i've talked to other ppl who have had a similar side effect of wellbutrin...something docs don't tell you about!
Hi - I have a pretty extensive background, but will try to make this as short & easy to comprehend as possible. I'm a 33 year old single mom who has struggled with "mental issues" for many years. At the age of 15 I was placed on Prozac for depression. Over the next 15 years I tried Zoloft, Paxil, Lexapro, and several others.
Shortly after my thyroid medication was adjusted, I stopped Wellbutrin completely, so did not connect the Wellbutrin and the hair, and just assumed it had been the thyroid. I did go to my primary doctor and he wants to chane me to Cymbalta, which I can't afford and my insurnace won't cover. It won't cover brand zoloft either, but that is cheaper and I can buy it out of pocket.
• Claiming that the time to peak plasma concentration (Tmax) of bupropion hydrochloride after ingesting Budeprion XL is identical to that in Wellbutrin XL, when studies have confirmed that the Tmax for Budeprion XL is less than one-half of that for Wellbutrin XL; • Claiming that Budeprion XL did not carry with it a risk of dose dumping when taken with food, though reports have indicated that food may increase chance for toxicity; • Claiming that human studies were done comparing Budeprion XL t
However, try to eat more vegetables and fruit, and wait the end of the autumn. If hair loss doesn't stop, see a dermatologist, or talk about it with the doctor who prescribes you the antidepressants.
- Wellbutrin XL 300mg (Switched from Effexor a year earlier) - Creatine Monohydrate (Started taking this regularly in mid-August 2011) - Omega-3 2000mg (High potency EPA/DHA) - Weight Gainer (has a plethora of amino-acids and vitamins) I know alopecia is a rare known side effect of Wellbutrin and Creatine Monohydrate has also been linked to hair loss. I can't really stop the Wellbutrin as I rely on this for my mental well-being so I immediately stopped consuming creatine.
I took wellbutrin XL 150 mg for several months. I gained 10 pounds and constantly craved sugar and sweets. Everything smelled very strong. It also greatly increased my sex drive. that was nice but I couldn't handle the weight gain. I just want to warn everyone that not everyone loses weight I didn't.
01 and I feel better) of course all the endos insisted my weight gain and agitation and hair loss and inability to think reflected a psychological problem. I went to a psychiatrist who put me on and off totally unnecessary anti-depressants. I must have taken every one when all I needed was T3. Of ALL the psychotropics I was given, Wellbutrin was the WORST and gave me exactly the same reaction that you're experiencing. I couldn't stop shaking or vomiting, etc.
Oh and it's funny you mention your hair. My hair was HORRIBLE while on wellbutrin, losing a lot and constantly breaking/split ends. But I also had NO appetite at all after awhile, which is one of my anxiety symptoms also, if I'm having a bad episode, but the wellbutrin made it so much worse. I just couldn't eat. So I thought it was lack of vitamins with the hair. I also had major teeth issues with the wellbutrin too.
But TSH is affected by so many things that it is only an indicator, to be considered along with more important indicators such as symptoms, and also the biologically active thyroid hormones, Free T3 and Free T4 (not the same as Total T3 and Total T4). In the future you should always get tested for Free T3 and Free T4 each time you go in for tests. Scientific studies have shown that Free T3 correlated best with hypo symptoms, while Free T4 and TSH did not correlate at all.
Plus I do suffer scalp issues and hair loss and it drives me nuts.
After i was switched from wellbutrin XL to Aplenzin, my hair has gotten very thin. has anyone else experienced this?
It's not funny but I'm so tired and just can't get pregnant due to work rules (military deployment) so I need some relief and some weight loss!!!!
a few instances of scalp hair loss. In children, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, weight loss during prolonged therapy, insomnia, and tachycardia may occur more frequently; however, any of the other adverse reactions listed above may also occur. Not so harmless is it? BTW despite what anyone tells you Ritalin is not approved for under 6 year olds, any doctor prescribing to this age group is taking a dangerous step as it has not been tested or monitored.
To sandratarium, keeponkeepingon, and kittykat3658 I was on Effexor (25mg/day) for 18 months, then successfully weaned myself off of it without pain, and after an 8-month slide back into depression while trying every natural remedy I had researched (none of which worked, contrary to all the glowing studies I had read about), I went back on it and have been using it without incident for the past 16 months.
heya, Glad I came across this community, enjoyed reading some of the posts, helpful info for sure. Currently I am taking Wellbutrin XL, topamax, Lamictal, and Xanax (for sleep) and have been feeling desperate on what to try next for my Bipolar. I started on meds over 10 years ago when I was "diagnosed" (although not told with that terminology", then put eventually on Seraquel, Zoloft, Prozac, Buspar, Celexa......
The other symptoms I have are definite loss of hair, dry hair, some memory loss, and depression. I'm taking Wellbutrin XL, but that's to help me focus on handling the affairs of my Mom who has dementia and also the affairs of my handicapped brother. A little overwhelming. I'm 65 yrs old, working full time and went through a nasty divorce at 60, so I don't think the depression has anything to do with the thyroid problem. I'm due to have blood work at the end of March to check my TSH again.
she was on her second week on it and had lost 16lbs so far so i was curious and down to try one more go at weight loss........i have tried everything under the sun with no valid results......:-( last monday i went to weight doctor for weight control......they took my blood, did a ekg, urine sample and i met with doc and she told me all my do's and dont's and i was given the shot in my hip along with 4 pills to take daily....oh yeah i was told i was anemic too and needed to purchase iron pills...
Not only do i have to have a gross period, now I have to feel as if someone is stabbing me in the crotch with a knife.. and then I get to have hot flashes and facial hair and dry crotch!!! Thanks scientists.. you're really doing a bang up job. No wonder men like younger women. No wonder lesbianism is becoming a growing trend! I'd like to NOT feel like my ***** is being held at knifepoint someday.. can you "doctors" do SOMETHING for us?!
muscle twitching eye floaters and eye pain difficulty swallowing extreme sweating underarms and palms, sometimes feet shaking sore jaw, teeth dry mouth hot and cold loss of appetite paranoia and irrational OCD sudden, intense pain at back of my head, like an axe just split it open, lasts 1-2 mins cant relax i have constant worry there is something wrong and the dr is too stupid to find it i had one ocular migraine but never had one since. im also a chronic marijuana user.. i live in aust.
I have been taking my Effexor dose down since beginning of June due to loss of insurance and no funds to stay on meds until September. I tried planning ahead with what meds I had left and gradually decreased my dose from 70+mg qd to 30+mg (lowest dose)qd, then over last month to 30+mg (lowest dose) every other day, and two weeks ago to 30+mg(lowest dose) every 3rd day (which was about as much as I could tolerate before withdrawal sxs really began to kick in).
I have had some tingling in my feet and fingers but as far as hair loss not any that I have noticed and other side effects not been bothered with... some weight loss at first because you don't have the appetite like before but that seems to have leveled off too and my weight has stayed the same the last year..but the best thing is it is controling my headaches! nothing like I used to have which I as thankful for....
These are often prescribed for runners, sports injuries to joints, and those suffering from arthritis. Syva labs has recently reworked its Cannabinoid test and claims to have eliminated this problem. But a Science magazine article (July 8, 1988) lists Ibuprofen as cross reactive. Under the new government guidelines THC testing levels will be reduced to 50 nanograms. Many more THC false positives can be expected in 1994. Dristan Nasal Spray, Neosynephren, Vicks Nasal Spray, Sudafed, etc.
celexa, lamictal, wellbutrin xl, cymbalta, restoril, seroquel, protonix and zelnorm. Also I was on Depo Provera for 17 months which really added to my weight gain. I've been off this drug since December 05, still haven't gotten my period back and am still gaining weight. I also take pain meds when my fibro acts up. I workout with a personal trainer and having been going to the gym 3-4 times a week for a month and really working out hard and i gained 10 more pounds.
) I am new to this forum and thought I would share my story. I am on Wellbutrin XL 300 mg and Topamax 25 mg (going up to 50 next week) once a day for depression/anxiety. I was on Wellbutrin and Lexapro for two months, but that combination made me GAIN 10 pounds in a month! I felt like eating all the time, and it didn't make sense to me since Wellbutrin is supposed to cause weight loss!
I have been on the drug for 2 years and I 47 and about to enter menopause and I haven't noticed a large amount of hair loss and believe I would notice since as I have aged my hair has thinned and it wasn't thick to begin with. I lost 16 lbs. and haven't continued as I didn't need to lose anymore. My daughter lost 12 and had to gain 6 back as she is small only 106. So I believe the hair loss is extreme weight loss and not the drug so much.
You are most definitely Hypothyroid with a goiter which means you may have hashimoto's disease. I have been diagnosed since 8 years ago. This can cause infertility and lack of energy, loss of hair, weight gain, etc. What your doctor should do is give you a TPO antibody test and immediately diagnose Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. Been there done that! The levothyroxine dose seems too low, but some doctor's like to start slow, (but we suffer). Also why are you taking baby aspirin??
I am on several medications, and I am wondering if one of those could be causing a problem. I take 300 MG of Wellbutrin XL, Loestrin 1.5/30 and 150 MG of Topamax. I started the Topamax last, about a year ago so I am wondering if it could have anything to do with that. I did lose 30 pounds when I started taking Wellbutrin in 2005, and then another 15 pounds when I started Topamax last year without trying.
