I am trying to come off my meds (wellbutrin xl 150 and effexor xr 75) as I would like to become pregnant this year. All my Dr.s say I need to come off the meds. My DR. has me taking my wellbutrin 150 mg once every 3 days and had me take 1 37.5 mg of the effexor for 5 days and no more effexor just wellbutrin. I am feeling tired, nausea and headaches I asume due to no effexor. Should I have been prescribed the effexor diffrently?
My doctor has suggested that I come off effexor (which i have been on for over 2 years) and start taking Wellbutrin XL. I was to take both of them for 1 week and then stop the effexor and take Wellbutrin only. I have not been feeling very good very tense, anxious, lightheaded and chest pains. I spoke to a pharmasist who suggested stopping the effexor straight away and continuing with the Wellbutrin.
I suppose it would be best to add that I have taken Effexor XR on and off for the last 5 years, went up and down from 75 to 150. I have a love/hate relationship with this medication. It works better than anything else but coming off makes me a crazy person. Recently I have tappered it as my doctor requested, started the Wellbutrin and Metformin just as I was supposed to..
This 2nd doctor looked it up, and said there was little difference in the cost, and would I like to go back on Effexor XL? I said yes. That was a year ago, and I am still on 150mg Effexor XL.
I feel really well. All my anxieties and panics have gone, along with the depression. I know not everybody gets the same benefit as me from Effexor. I also do not know if there is much difference in the original, and the generic form. I may have felt just as well on the generic.
Hi, I live in England and my doctor gave me no choice but put me on to generic Venlafaxine. Now reading Hensley's reply, I am worried it will not help me. I was told it was exactly the same as Effexor XR. I was on Effexor XL before. I don't know what the difference is. Hensley knows so much about drugs. I know nothing, just trust my doctor to put me on one he thinks will help me. Didn't know I could ask him to put me on the proper drug not the generic.
I then took Effexor and later ther Effexor XR. Effexor XR allowed me to live a reasonably normal life raising a child and having a career. For at least 3 years my depression has slowly gotten progressively worse. My counselor and I believe it is time to add an additional medication, possibly welbutrin or change to a different antidepressant. Currently I take 300mg of effexor XR. This is the same level I have taken for the entire time I've used effexor. I would like input and advice.
I was on effexor xr 75mg for about 4 years until it quit on me, I added wellbutrin XL 150mg and stayed on the effex. for another year and weaned off just the effex. I've been on the wellbutrin fro another 4 years and I was great until I had to take methylprednisone (steriod) and I went off the deep end. But if I hadn't taken the steriod, I would be fine.
I have been on Effexor XR 150 mg for 4 years and due to the cost and effect on my libido, I have started withdrawal, first tapered to 75 mg for 30 days, now on 37.5 for 15 days, then everyother day, and to continue till I'm done. Well in talking to my pharmacist she said she has seen violent reactions when people stop suddenly.
My mood swings are terrible and I'm suprised my husband hasn't locked me up. I get angry, moody, incredibally sad.
I didn't take Effexor XL, but I did take Effexor XR. I experienced side effects while I was on it and withdrawal symptoms that lasted for 6 months. My side effects/withdrawal symptoms included: brain zaps, extreme sweating, dizziness, dry mouth, fatigue, major headaches, nervousness, vertigo, and confusion. When I started taking it, I lost 20 pounds in 2 weeks! I was wanting to lose weight, but in a healthy way. My advice to you is get off of it asap.
I can comment on this. I was on 75 mg of Effexor XR and 200 mg of Wellbutrin. BUT, I stopped the FX 75. I was taken off gradually and I can tell you it is NOT a fun ride at ALL.
First, I would not suggest the FX/WB combo. If you have anxiety, I would get off the FX(But do not do this at all without your Dr) and add in Buspar. I am on a WB/Buspar combo and it works well.(I think anyways since I am still having sime residual w/d from the Effexor)
Get off that FX.
I switched to Effexor XR about a year ago because Zoloft was not doing enough for my depression. I was and still am taking Wellbutrin XL to combat the sexual side effects. Shortly after I started Effexor my doctor also put me on Seroquel. So I have been on these 3 drugs for the past year. Last month my doctor suggested I up my dosage of Effexor from 150mg to 225 mg.
Wellbutrin XL is an excellent antidepressant for people suffering from lethargy and low libido.
Mixed with all the items I suggested to you, you should feel like a new person.
I'm taking Wellbutrin XL 300mg. I have been told that it is a wimpy drug and that I sither need to up the dosage or find a stronger anti-depressant. What about effexor?
I have taken wellbutrin XL 150 for about four years, but recently it stopped helping. My doctor added effexor XR 75 and trazodone 50mg to try to settle my horrible anxiety and pick me up from the dark depression I started experiencing about 2 months ago. Two weeks ago I was hospitalized for medication adjustment. I was awesome (except for jitters and high pulse rate 102-140 daily) until 3 days ago I started having anxiety every morning and cry all day for no good reason.
You may not need anything but the Wellbutrin to be honest with you. I have OCD which leads to anxiety and then to depression. I was on Prozac many years ago and I tried those other drugs over the past year when it reared its ugly head again but I choose Wellbutrin. I was initially on 150 XL like you but I needed a boost when my OCD kicked into overdrive so I went to 300 XL. It did make me more jittery at first but after about 4-6 weeks, it went away and I feel GREAT!
I've been on 150mg of Effexor XR and 300mg of Wellbutrin for maybe 9 months now. I suddenly started feeling sick after taking the two together. 2-3 hours after taking the two I get the "zapping" feeling some people describe, my heart rate increases (as high as 120), sometimes I feel nauseous, I have trouble focusing, and I generally feel sick. This has been getting worse over the last 2 months. I went to the ER the other day because I felt so bad and my heart rate was scaring me.
Not the doctor, but never do this cold turkey! Especially not Effexor. But it probably will go away. I also wouldn't have started wellbutrin until I'd finished withdrawing from Effexor. Wellbutrin is a stimulating antidepressant and can cause anxiety all on its own if anxiety is a problem, not just depression -- not what I'd take when withdrawing from Effexor! Try taking a healthy amount of fish oil, it's said to help with some of the head stuff that's driving you nuts.
Hi, Venlafaxine hydrochloride is Viepax. Viepax is the generic form of Effexor. I take 150mg Effexor at breakfast, and it releases during the day.
When I was given Viepax, I did not find it as effextive as Effexor, and asked to be put back on Effexor. Feel much better now.
You are taking a lot of Venlafaxine over a day, unlike some, who take a daily dose. Perhaps there was a reason for this in your case. There are XP versions, and XL versions. The difference is in the release time.
ve been on Effexor XR (300 mg) for about fifteen years and recently decided with my psychiatrist that I would go off it and start Wellbutrin XL. I got on the Wellbutrin (150 mg) and started tapering off the Effexor, and I was surprised at how smoothly it was going. Then I went from 75 mg of the Effexor to nothing, and within two days I felt like I was going to die. I felt nauseous, drunk and hung over at the same time, shaky, dizzy, etc.
