I was prescribed Wellbutrin (buproprion) for smoking cessation and have been on it for roughly 3 weeks. It is the SR, 150mg in the AM and 150mg in the PM. I have also been on methadone for roughly five years and have been at the same dosage of 25mgs for over a year.
Once starting buproprion (i got the generic), the side affects were pretty bad. I felt like I was on amphetamines.
If I am not mistaken Wellbutrin was used to treat anxiety long before it became a drug used for smoking cessation. As with any new med give it time to reach a therapeutic level and watch your symptoms. If you feel it isn't working do what you did before...see your dr. Hang in there sooner or later you will hit on the med that is right for you.
i'm on wellbutrin to STOP smoking weed, does it really works for that?....and if i smoke what would happen?....or if i get drunk?......my dose is 150, twice a day so in a day i take 300 mg's...and i also take clonazepam for sleeping disorder....
Wellbutrin is the version of bupropion often prescribed and intended to treat depression, while Zyban is used for smoking cessation. (Though some Docs prescribe Wellbutrin to help stop smoking too..)"
Actually...zyban is wellbutrin...but in a smaller dosage, wellbutrin is for depression & they discovered it supposedly had an effect on addictive tendencies. I can't take wellbutrin, it gives me panic attacks....sigh....

Wellbutrin 150 mg xl worked great for me while quitting smoking. Today I am tapering off the wellbutrin and I have 60 quit days from the cigs. I also lost 8 lbs in 2 months, however not sure if it was the xl or sr or even the current 75 mg hcl that I'm currently on now.
5mg Ativan for 30 days and I have been on Wellbutrin for 4 months for cessation of smoking 1 month 150 mg xl then 100 mg sr for 60 days to 75 mg 1x d for 30 days and now 1/2 75mg once a day for 1 week. Then I will be on 1/2 75mg wellbutrin every other day for 1 week and finally 1/2 pill twice a week for 1 week then no pills at all.
How long will my Valium withdrawals last? Will the Wellbutrin tapering effect or delay the Valium wd symptoms?
If you recently quit smoking and started taking a psychotropic medication and the stopped taking it your brain chemistry could be all over the place. I wouldn't expect the blackouts to keep happening, and I would expect weird symptoms for the next couple of months. In a few months you should stabilize though. I would really recommend seeing a real doctor as I am just some guy who sees a real doctor.
I know Zyban is another smoking cessation aide but that is another name for the anti-depressent Wellbutrin and an anti-depressent alone in bipolar can often worsen mania. Those are the two that are clinically approved and in standard use. Others are in experimental use.

I used to take Wellbutrin and for me it was great for depression but totally aggravated my anxiety. I took xanax with it to take the edge off. I felt the side effects right away, and felt better within about a week or two of starting it. I liked Wellbutrin because I didn't gain weight. In fact it decreased my appetite and it didn't make me feel sluggish or zoned out like other meds I had tried. It also had the lowest side effects for me.
I was very recently prescribed Wellbutrin XL, after trying several medications that have not helped [including Wellbutrin SR]. When I saw my doctor, she simply said 'I'm putting you on Wellbutrin twice daily' and I assumed it would be the SR. But what I was given was XL, with the instructions to take it twice a day [morning and around noon]. My doctor's office is closed today, or I would have asked her. I did ask the pharmacist, and he said that yes, this is okay.
I kept having tingling in my body the last few days so dr stopped the ritalin and put me back on 30 mg of prozac along with the wellbutrin sr and my xaanx..
If you indeed have a substantial drinking problem, you may need to be safely, medically detoxed before starting on the Wellbutrin. The abrupt cessation of alcohol after heavy use over an extended period of time (several months or more, daily) can be dangerous, even deadly in certain circumstances. Don't mess with it.
My husband was taking Wellbutrin sr 150 the doctor upped him to 200 sr and they gave him buprion 200 sr(on the bottle it says just Bupr). He had lots of energy on the Wellbutrin sr150 and was a pleasure to be arounds, but on this 200 buprionsr he goes to sleep and is like snappen at me all the time. After reading some of these questions I am worried that things are going to go back to the way they were before he started taking his meds.

Is anyone getting ringing in the ears from taking Generic Wellbutrin(Bupropion sr ) 150 mg. Here is my situation I have been on amitriptiline 25 mg 4 years then went up to 50 mg for 3 years. I started taking only one 150 mg of bupropion sr this is my 5 day. Can I stop taking the amitriptiline with no withdrawls after only 5 days of Bupropion? or has it not been long enough. I hoping that I can stop the amitriptiline by taking the bupropion sr in place of the amitriptiline.
Can you tell me which is the better answer? I was taking Wellbutrin SR 300 mg for a number of years and then within the past couple of years it was inadvertently changed to XI. Could this be the reason for my anger changes a couple of years ago and is Lexapro really the solution?

Wellbutrin seems to be an antidepressant and for helping with smoking cessation, not for helping people ejaculate sooner when having sex. In your shoes I'd talk to the doctor about its undesired effect on the results of the Viagra, and unless you need it as an antidepressant (or to quit smoking), stop taking it. Give it a while to get out of your system, and see if the Viagra works again.
