Common Questions and Answers about Wellbutrin and phentermine for weight loss

phentermine

I am taking citalopram, wellbutrin and phentermine My weight is going up and I am sweating all the time. is it because of this combo of meds? What can I take for weight loss?.
I have been taking wellbutrin for depression and also quit smoking . but I still would like to help myself with some extra weight that I carry and I'm afraid to keep gaining. could you let me know if it's possible to have the two pills together?
For example, paxil tends to cause the most weight gain. Wellbutrin tends to cause the most weight loss. The ssri's like paxil, zoloft, celexa and lexapro tend to negatively affect libido and ability to perform sexually in males and females. Wellbutrin tends to be neutral in regards to sexual issues, and tends to improve sexual drive.
I was having much difficulty losing weight so I went to a Weight Loss Clinic, where they perscribed phentermine, hydrochlorthiazide and a fiber pill with calcium. I was wondering how dangerous this is and if I could/should stop my antidressant/anxiety medications abruptly or ween myself of them while I am on the weight loss pills.
I take topamax to control seizures and I must say that I am surprised doctors prescribe it for weight loss alone, and that you are willing to put up with the side effects of it just for weight loss when there are other weight loss drugs out there. The "goofiness and loss of words" bothers me tremendously. I have been taking it since April and that hasn't abated any. Unfortunately I did not experience any weight loss or loss of appetite from it like everyone says. I take 200 mg a day.
But, I am seriously contemplating asking my MD to prescribe Topamax for me for weight loss. I think maybe my blood pressure will also decrease, and I am sure my feet and joints won't hurt anymore if I can get this extra 60 lbs off me. As I said, I am 66 years young, and am interested if any other young seniors are in my shoes. Any comments for the older group will be greatly appreciated.
I am on 500 mg and it has done nothing for weight loss. It actually constipated me for the first few days and gave me heartburn and chest pain. I don't know if that is normal or not. My doctor says I am insulin resistant and he thinks this will help me loss weight. Should I ask to increase it? Or is it to soon?
(reminds me of the phen-fen clinics) I need to put the weight loss to good use, and take control of my life and GET TO THE GYM. I want to be more tone now. But, it did work to get the weight off. I need to loose 10 more lbs to be at my goal. Using the internet, you could do this yourself, but it would be VERY,very expensive. Take in mind Phentermine on the net is over $120 for 30 pills and less then $30.00 with a script. With a clinic you do have to weigh in and that helps too.
This is my story. Last February (2006) I started taking phentermine for weight loss. I went from 175lbs to 150 lbs in a few short months. Unfortunately, I have always had some struggles with depression but had never been on medication for it before. Summer of 2006, I was having some major job stressors, family stressors, etc. and was still trying to lose weight and taking pehntermine off & on.
I started going to a Dr. for weight loss. I get B12 shot, B6 shot and a Lipo shot every week. I also take adipex. I have been doing this for 3 weeks and have lost 2 pounds. I have been really watching what i eat. I take Prozac and Wellbutrin also. Im wondering if that may have some reason thats keeping my weight on. Any suggestons. I have noticed im aliitle on the edgey.
I went today for my first week weight check and my second shot.....my weight loss for my first week is 9.5 pounds!!!! Anyone else using Phentermine and B12? I would love to hear how other people have done on these meds. Good Luck to everyone trying...I want to hear your story!
Phentermine is a dangerous choice for weight loss. Also, it doesnt work for a lot of people. Id like to suggest the HCG weight loss program. I joined the program through Body Solutions RX in Colorado Springs,CO. They help people in the US 50 states, no matter what the distance. This can all be done by not even going in to their clinic. This clinic is a member of the Better Business Bureau and is well known.
Wellbutrin definetly affects weight loss. For me I was on it than stopped (not advised) and I gained weight in few days.? Since this drug was initially for smokers I believe it has enough affect to brain, similar to thyroid medication. Many years ago you couldnt get wellburtin unless the drs office called it in stating it wasnt for smoking. Since it went generic, insurance begain to cover. Sadly, it does make you a bit paranoid for some reason.
wellbutrin helps with weight loss, depression, anxiety, and I have also quit smoking. It is definitely worth trying.
I prescribed60 mg of adderall but one week I had to take left over phentermine and 10mg adderall and my focusing was great and energy and I still do take 1/3 of phentermine a day.
...and I was utterly miserable. I had been on Wellbutrin back in 2005 for about 3 years. Then the anxiety started to get to me. But I have gained weight due to spending a whole two years on Lexapro...2007-2009. I am miserable when overweight. So, I remembered that during my time with Effexor XR, I did not gain. However, I still have the appetite of a horse on it, I am menopausal, and it is harder, even with calorie counting and exercise to take off the last 15 lbs.
I weighed 119 the day I started taking tofranil (one of the worst for weight gain). I've taken it for many years and am now close to 200 and look like hell. My doctor gave me a scrip for welbutrin which is supposed to not make weight gain, but I have panic disorder and, from all I read, wb doesn't work for that and I've been afraid to taper off the tofranil (I am down from 150 to 100 m a day) and start with the wb.
Natura, if you have the stomach enough to read through this website [and it is gross] you will find that you could possibly be carrying around up to 20lbs of impacted fecal matter in your intestines and that this must be released from your body for obvious reasons - if you take vitamins and supplements to nourish your body, you may, inadvertently be nourishing some other things inside you [told you it was gross] so a thorough cleansing is necessary in order for the body to lose weight.
Do you know of a good doctor that I could go to that would prescribe good medication to help me loose weight. I have tried everything and failed. I am on Wellbutrin and Effexor for depression. Please help. I am extremely overweight.
I was on for 2 years and gained 15 pounds (but of course, I didn't care since I was on a drug) Now, I've been off for SIX MONTHS and I can not lose the weight. I know I ate more and drank (like a fish) more on Lexapro, but I also kept going to the gym. I am hoping that it re-calibrates, but I'm 48 years old, so I'm worried. I feel like a dumpy old lady. Right now, I'm taking 5HTP for depression, and it's not as powerful as a drug but it does work. And it helps with food cravings.
Phenteramine is a stimulant used for short-term period as a weight loss medication. It is not indicated for long term use. Medications for weight loss should be used only in combination with exercise and diet modification. In general weight gain associated with Prozac and the other SSRI's is minimal (5-7#s). Wellbutrin is one of the antidepressants that has no weight gain associated with it and may be an option that you could discuss further with your psychiatrist.
I was on Depo for about four years along with zoloft and gained 15 lbs... a lot of weight for me I am short. I am off the depo and switched to a different med, but still no weight loss.
Im on so many medications..xanax for anxxiety.hormones, thyroid meds and most recently phentermine for weight loss.....plus some herbs.I want to quit the vicodin.Oh Im also on wellbutrin sr but am tapering off. Some days its like I just dont care about anything.I dont want to lose my husband and home. Please any ideas of how i can kick these pills out of my life> Thanks so Much!
I forgot to get a copy of my results from my last couple of visits and will try to do that tomorrow and post the results. As for weight loss, I'm on Phentermine 37.5MG. Not sure it really has helped.....weight loss is extremely difficult for me, regardless of what I do. Since starting Phentermine in Feb 2010 I have lost 20 lbs, which I am glad about, but it's been almost a year and a ton of work!
Thanks for all your replies. I hate feeling like this, it's spring out and I just want to hide in the house. No energy, my weight gain makes me miserable and sad because I can't wear cute clothes. I don't know what I can do.
About this same time I had decided to start weaning myself off of Effexor for several different reasons. I was taking both Wellbutrin XL and Effexor XR and was just tired of taking so many medications ( I am also on hormone replacement therapy). The side effects I had from Effexor were not that totally bad; sweating and being hot when nobody else was, decreased sexual feelings, not as intense orgasms. I had quit about a year ago but don't remember feeling like this at all.
Not that I drank them much anyhow. I won't stop drinking my coffee for nothing though!!! Does the weight loss and diareaha eventually stop and when? and When should I increase my dosage?
I just started on Topomax for weight loss. I have been on Paxil for about 8 years for anxiety and panic attacks. I am hoping the mood stabilization will help, but the last thing I need is to feel more tired or less energetic or memory loss, I'm a first grade teacher AND have a 2 year old and 4 year old. Can someone give me some reassurance here? Do these things go away? Does anyone feel BETTER taking this?
First of all I am not a nurse ot doctor but I wanted to comment on the hair loss. I have also been prescribed topamax for pain, mood stabilizer and weight loss so I have been looking a lot on the net. I have seen a few things about hair loss. I wanted to comment on that. I have been a hairstylist for 24 years and one thing that I have noticed without doubt is that when one of my customers loses a significant amount of weight (25 lbs or more) they always have a loss of hair.
