Welchol to treat diarrhea

Common Questions and Answers about Welchol to treat diarrhea

welchol

Avatar f tn I also regulate how much Welchol I take to control diarrhea vs. constipation.
Avatar n tn I new that after the surgery it would take some time to get back to normal (being able to eat and not have diarrhea). However, this is not my case-my diarrhea is if anything worse and more frequent. No certain foods cause it- one day I can eat something and have diarrhea, the next day eat the same thing and nothing. Sometimes it occurs immediately after I eat (before I've even finished my meal) and then other times it occurs the following morning.
401016 tn?1201451802 I would assume they're giving you welchol for diarrhea and the Ami for GI spasms. This is a combination that is given to many (or combinations like it) when someone is experiencing unexplained abdominal pain (perhaps due to spasms) and diarrhea. Ami is used fairly frequently in GI problems, so don't consider it a 'head med.' It is, but in this case it's probably being used to work on the receptors in your GI tract - not your head, although it will do that, too.
Avatar n tn I want to know why so many people develop IBS after Gallbladder removal? I did not have any problems until then. I suffered with IBS for years until my Gastro doctor put me on Welchol and it is wonderful I take 3 pills a day and I can get anything I want and I don't have any IBS episodes anymore. I am not afraid to go out anywhere anymore. But I have another problem.
Avatar n tn My husband had his gall bladder removed three months ago and he still has almost daily diarrhea. He is careful with his diet and does not comsume too much fat. Does any one have any ideas on why and diet .
Avatar n tn Londres is certainly correct that there are a few other options available to treat what could be assumed to be familial hypercholesterolaemia, even though your doctor has obviously tried those that would be most obvious. Generally, if you experience muscle weakness as a side effect of Lipitor (atorvastatin), other statins will produce similar effects, so that eliminates the use of Zocor (simvastatin), Crestor (rosuvastatin) etc.
Avatar f tn ve been on Welchol for lose to twenty years now, but now (after having thyroid gland removed due to follicular cancer at the end of last year), I'm having the exact same symptoms taking the Welchol tablets as you described (I thought it might have been dyspagia brought on by the Levothyroxine I'm forced to take now). Has anyone ever figured out what might be causing this?
Avatar f tn Do not be fobbed off with pain relief medications and the Welchol. You require urgent medical investigation to find out the cause of your symptoms so that you can receive the appropriate treatment. Best of luck. Let me know how you get on.
Avatar n tn There is about a 5% incidence of watery diarrhea immediately following removal of the gallbladder that is thought to result from bile salt irritation in an empty GI tract. It usually responds well to resins that bind these bile salts (cholestyramine) so they can't irritate the intestine. Most commonly the intestine adapts such that these agents can be weaned off over several weeks.
Avatar f tn I also suffered horribly with diarrhea for about a year after, and eventually was put on Welchol to help. It also helped me to reduce the fried and fatty foods from my system.
Avatar f tn Barb, trade whatever you're eating for very low fat and stick to it. It's not going to change anything immediately, but it should help with the diarrhea. In the meantime do a couple of things. Online, google 'lnape and calcium' and see if you can help retard the bile by using calcium as described by lnape. Make sure you use the right type of calcium and take it at the time specified.
Avatar m tn Will keep her on, cause her numbers are VERY bad and I will probably go back to Welchol and zetia, for what it is worth.
Avatar n tn It can take up to a year for the digestive system to get back to normal after the gall bladder is removed. Severe diarrhea, especially after meals, is common, but eventually that part will level out. A medication called cholestyramine was prescribed to me for this. It might help. I had to take less than the recommended dose - it can cause constipation. It's a powder you mix with a drink or with food.
Avatar n tn I'm @ 8 mos post j-pouch takedown and am still having problems with nausea, diarrhea, cramps etc.. I ,m taking lomotil and metamucil and still go 16x's /day. I had a recent bout with pouchitis and took Cipro and Flagyl (and yogurt) . The Cipro made me feel normal again and reduced frequency to 5-7 x's a day- I felt good! When I came off the Cipro the high frequency diarrhea problem returned. I go every 6 hrs at about 4 trips per.
268356 tn?1236002604 Gall Bladder was removed over 10 years ago and cholestyramine (Questran) every day, has been the only thing that worked to stop the diarrhea...UNTIL..4 months ago, when my son convinced me to go on a low fat, low added oil, Vegan Diet. I have since found that I no longer need the cholestyramine packets. I have gone weeks without them...unless i have food with added oil. A few weeks ago, I had a salad that was drenched Italian dressing. Rather than sending it back, I ate it and guess what...
Avatar f tn Hi, I didn't realize you were in Australia, but I imagine they might have some form of liquid narcotic that could help you. (forgive the graphic nature of this but it might help) Also the "kitty litter" effect is basically when you have very liquid diarrhea, the Welchol absorbs it in your intestines (like kitty litter) so it doesn't come out that way. You do have to be careful not to get constipated so you would want to drink plenty of water, but it did wonders for me.
Avatar f tn I do not have control of my bowels with or without anti diarrhea meds. I have tried immodium and the dr. prescribed me welchol. I also have anti nausea meds he prescribed, anti spasmotic meds he prescribed, prevacid and he wants me to take align daily. I sometimes have to wear an adult diaper because I cannot get to the restroom in time. I soil myself at night. I know this is gross - but is there anyone else out there going through this? Do you think my Dr. is doing the right things?
Avatar n tn I also take powder welchol at supper. I would like to take my 1000mg of Januvia at bedtime to help lower my morning blood sugar readings that usually run in the 150's to 160, Any cons to taking the Januvia without food at bedtime?
Avatar f tn You might want to ask your doc if you could try some questran, a bile-binding resin. It's also possible that following a low fat diet may be of help since 'bile-dumping' can be a consequence of having a GB removed in some people.
Avatar n tn Are your cats allowed to go outside? You need to find out what is casuing this diarrhea. To me, once you get to the bottom of it you will find it easier to restore things back to normal. You need to take the cats to the vet to be examined. Are they all fixed? Do they ALL have diarrhea? If they do it could be a bacteria or a parasite. Treat the illness...
Avatar f tn I called the LLMDs office and they said to stop all my abx and related drugs but to stick with my supplements. They said I needed two more detoxing supplements that can only be ordered from a doctor, so there is another 90 bucks. They're going to retest in a week. Anybody else had kidney trouble with Lyme? I have not had any UTIs or bladder problems, but my eGFR was a bit low even before I got diagnosed. Now, with all my abx, it is really low and the Creatinine is too high.
Avatar f tn Can Welchol be mixed with something else besides water ? Today was my first dose and it was horrid. I am a juicer and was hoping to mix the water/Welchol mixture in my juice, would that work or somehow disturb it's efficiency. Maybe it would detract from the nutrients I would normally absorb from the juicing. My liver function is too high so my Dr. wants me to avoid statins. I just can't get this stuff down without some help. Suggestions ???
Avatar m tn the first two times, there were a few blockages - 10, 18 and 20% The last time was in December 2013 with a different cardiologist (I moved across the state) and he said I had NO blockages at all. HUH??? My lipid profiles are still horrible even with medications. Pravacol, Tricor and Welchol. His answer for this question was: "Those medications took the blockages away." Of course, I am no doctor but this seems funny to me.
Avatar f tn Eating or drinking red or orange colored stuff can cause this. Certain medications like one used to treat urinary tract infections can cause this too. Retrace your steps and what you ate/drank.
