Welchol questran

Common Questions and Answers about Welchol questran

welchol

Avatar n tn Ask your doctor about Welchol; it's a cholesterol medicine that binds bile salts. I had mine taken out in February of last year and tried to "tough it out," but after a doctor put me on Welchol, I rarely ever get sick after eating.
Avatar n tn You may want to ask the doc if he can try a bile binding resin like questran or somehting like Welchol. There's also the possibility that calcium could help. But it has to be in a specific form and take ant specific times of the day. Google 'lnape and calcium,' and look at the information provided. The contraindication would be if he has a history of kidney stones or parathyroid problems.
Avatar n tn One is to decrease the amount of fat you take in. In addition, you could ask your doc if you could try some questran, or another form of bile-binding resin. Another thing to try might be Welchol.
268356 tn?1236002604 I took my vitamins while trying to become pregnant at opposite ends of the day from the Questran. Questran has been my lifesaver! However, my Ob-Gyn does not want me to take the drug while pregnant, but my family physician and fertility doctors okayed it. So, to be safe, I stopped taking the Questran the day after I found out I was pregnant. I have not completely conquered the situation, but I found a "diet" from the University of Pittsburgh Hospital.
Avatar f tn t get the diarreha under control, you may want to talk to your doc about using a bile-binding resin like questran or a product like Welchol.
1374371 tn?1279332622 I had mine out at 23% and had bad diarrheah for 6 months. They can give you welchol or questran to help bind the stool if that happens. I also found out that sphincter of oddi was my problem that made the gallbladder go bad. If I would have known I had SOD then I would have waited a little while longer to get it out since now the SOD attacks are worse than the GB pain.
Avatar n tn Surely this is a bad dream and I will wake up soon but I know it is not. I found out that Welchol and another drug called Colestipol may work better than Questran but neither are avaialable in Australia. I am going to start Creone next week and see if that changes the status qou, maybe it might help being a digestive enzyme. Anyway if anyone out there can offer me any advice, please do. I am desperate, very desperate, the clock is ticking as far as time goes, and I am in the toilet, as usual.
Avatar f tn It turned out to be the welchol I had started on to decrease my cholesterol. I felt bloated, constipated, a little dizzy and a fast heart rate every late afternoon and evening. I was very fatigued and just felt lousy all over. I have to admit that the pressure feeling in the esophagus was the scarriest.
Avatar f tn If you do have the neurotxins, they use a med called Questran which is used to really detoxify your body and makes you feel a lot better. Anyone ever use this med? Questran has been used to treat cholsteral for years in the US.
401016 tn?1201451802 I would assume they're giving you welchol for diarrhea and the Ami for GI spasms. This is a combination that is given to many (or combinations like it) when someone is experiencing unexplained abdominal pain (perhaps due to spasms) and diarrhea. Ami is used fairly frequently in GI problems, so don't consider it a 'head med.' It is, but in this case it's probably being used to work on the receptors in your GI tract - not your head, although it will do that, too.
Avatar m tn Can anyone explain to me why I still had a heart attack even while taking the following meds atenenol 50mg bid, HCTZ 25mg daily, zetia 40mg daily, plavix 25mg daily, welchol 625mg bid. Also what is the chance of a second heart attack My Aortic Valve, Tricuspid Valve, and my Mitral Valve are failing because they are stenotic and regurgitative. The Aortic valve is in the worst shape of the three they tell me. I have psoriatic arthritis and ankolosing spondylitis. all joints are involved.
Avatar f tn I have an answer for you. I too had my GB out, and soon after had the same symptoms. I DIAGNOSED IT myself....not much initial help from the gastro MD. It is called "biliary diarrhea". It's fairly common, surprisingly. Apparantly has no reflection on the quality of the surgery (I had the short cut method). However, good news: I've beern able to control it, for which I do give gastro MD credit....The cholesterol drug Welchol. Without it I'd be housebound!
Avatar n tn Is there a pain killer that works for pain caused by Questran in the legs? Had gall bladder removed and now have constant diarrhea. I was given Questran to stop the diarrhea. (pain now is permament and I have stopped taking Questran) I was taking codeine between 120 and 180 mg a day. (pure codeine) It stopped the diarhea and leg pain quite well. Now after some years, doctor is shy about giving more.
Avatar f tn I answered your post about Questran first. After reading this, I think you'd be a good candidate for trying Questran. Secondly, you asked for any ideas. I have one. Don't go back to that second doctor!!!!! "Normal, just ignore it"!! LOL What a quacky thing to say to someone that is suffering with these symptoms!!!!!!
Avatar n tn My reg family doc wanted me to go to see the gastro doctor to have an endo done back like 3 or 4 months ago when he had to switch me from protonix (which is my 2nd or 3rd med to try for acid reflux) to Nexium , the strongest dose 40 mgs I think. Well at the time I didn't have time to go see the gastro doc. But I had to go see a ENT because of an ear infection and he said my throat looked really irriated and I had better get my acid reflux checked out.
Avatar n tn Hello, I am starting a new medicine for severe diarrhea. Has anyone taken Questran (cholestyramine)? Has it helped or cause worse problems. Does it actually stop the diarrhea? I am taking also Lomotil which has not helped much at all. I started it 2 days ago and have not noticed any change. If this med doesn't help than I will have to start on TPN. Thank you for any information you can give.
Avatar f tn To Whom It May Concern- I am a 30 y/o female with a history of GI disturbance, mainly chronic diarrhea and abdominal spasms. I have been through the workups of both a full colonoscopy and sigmoidoscopy. I've had my stool tested for parasites/infections. I've had the workup for bacterial overgrowth in the my small intesting as well. All workups are negative minus some mild nondescript inflammation on sigmoidoscopy.
270554 tn?1289511647 I read into a med called Questran is their any possibility this could help? I know its for the intestinal track, but can it help in reducing acid as well? Or maybe a bile duct block?
Avatar f tn You might want to ask your doc if you could try some questran, a bile-binding resin. It's also possible that following a low fat diet may be of help since 'bile-dumping' can be a consequence of having a GB removed in some people.
Avatar f tn I too have had my gallbladder out and have had a whole myriad of problems including the diarrhea. You both need to ask your doctors for Questran. It binds with the bile that is being dumped into the intestines by the liver and carries it out of the body. I have been one of the unlucky ones to still have problems afterwards but the Questran stopped the diarrhea almost instantly.
Avatar n tn Lipitor caused severe muscle weakness, Zetia caused all kind of digestive problems and Pravachol zapped my energy...my count actually went up 30 points while taking WelChol! My doctor is telling me that I have no other choices of medicine to lower my count (total 285, HDL 106 VLDL 21, LDL 188, Triglycerids 106.) My sister is having the same problem so I guess this problem is a family thing. I am really troubled by my doctor's lack of concern.
Avatar n tn I take (2) 500mg of metformin at breakfast and supper. I also take powder welchol at supper. I would like to take my 1000mg of Januvia at bedtime to help lower my morning blood sugar readings that usually run in the 150's to 160, Any cons to taking the Januvia without food at bedtime?
Avatar f tn Ask your doctor for Questran, its a bile binding resin you mix up and drink before every meal. It will stop the diarrhea and allow you alittle more freedom but you still need to watch what you eat.
Avatar n tn I did not have any problems until then. I suffered with IBS for years until my Gastro doctor put me on Welchol and it is wonderful I take 3 pills a day and I can get anything I want and I don't have any IBS episodes anymore. I am not afraid to go out anywhere anymore. But I have another problem.
Avatar f tn I am curious if you tried cholestramine or welchol pills for detox? I use the welchol because I can't drink liquid meds.
