Avatar n tn Londres is certainly correct that there are a few other options available to treat what could be assumed to be familial hypercholesterolaemia, even though your doctor has obviously tried those that would be most obvious. Generally, if you experience muscle weakness as a side effect of Lipitor (atorvastatin), other statins will produce similar effects, so that eliminates the use of Zocor (simvastatin), Crestor (rosuvastatin) etc.
Avatar m tn Can anyone explain to me why I still had a heart attack even while taking the following meds atenenol 50mg bid, HCTZ 25mg daily, zetia 40mg daily, plavix 25mg daily, welchol 625mg bid. Also what is the chance of a second heart attack My Aortic Valve, Tricuspid Valve, and my Mitral Valve are failing because they are stenotic and regurgitative. The Aortic valve is in the worst shape of the three they tell me. I have psoriatic arthritis and ankolosing spondylitis. all joints are involved.
1139187 tn?1355706647 I have about 600 welchol tablets that my insurance company accidently over-sold me. I cant take this medication any longer. It was prescribed to me because of gallbladder removal. Can I do anything with this medication since I will not be taking it? Its in 3 huge , sealed bottles.
Avatar f tn It turned out to be the welchol I had started on to decrease my cholesterol. I felt bloated, constipated, a little dizzy and a fast heart rate every late afternoon and evening. I was very fatigued and just felt lousy all over. I have to admit that the pressure feeling in the esophagus was the scarriest.
Avatar f tn I am in college now and it is difficult having to live with chemo head and also catching ever cold that anyone I come in contact with has. I would just like to hear from anyone that has been on this medication to hear there thoughts on the treatment and possible alternatives. I am also into atlernative medicine so Im open to suggestions. But really Im open to anything I have been suffering for a year and a half and Im just ready to get better and move on with my life.
401016 tn?1201451802 I would assume they're giving you welchol for diarrhea and the Ami for GI spasms. This is a combination that is given to many (or combinations like it) when someone is experiencing unexplained abdominal pain (perhaps due to spasms) and diarrhea. Ami is used fairly frequently in GI problems, so don't consider it a 'head med.' It is, but in this case it's probably being used to work on the receptors in your GI tract - not your head, although it will do that, too.
Avatar n tn I have had so much dental work because of that medication. For all of you out there with IBS ask your Gastro dr about Welchol it is wonderful. This discussion is related to Why does so many have problems after gallbladder surgery?.
Avatar f tn I have an answer for you. I too had my GB out, and soon after had the same symptoms. I DIAGNOSED IT myself....not much initial help from the gastro MD. It is called "biliary diarrhea". It's fairly common, surprisingly. Apparantly has no reflection on the quality of the surgery (I had the short cut method). However, good news: I've beern able to control it, for which I do give gastro MD credit....The cholesterol drug Welchol. Without it I'd be housebound!
Avatar n tn Ask your doctor about Welchol; it's a cholesterol medicine that binds bile salts. I had mine taken out in February of last year and tried to "tough it out," but after a doctor put me on Welchol, I rarely ever get sick after eating.
Avatar f tn I do have to urinate a lot too. I was taking cholesterol medication (Welchol) and Cosamine DS for back pain. I stopped taking it last week but I still have the pain. It subsides for a while and then starts again almost like contractions. What is wrong with me? I have been trying to eat the right things like salads, veggies, chicken , turkey, no mayo or fats, only whole grain products.
Avatar n tn I take (2) 500mg of metformin at breakfast and supper. I also take powder welchol at supper. I would like to take my 1000mg of Januvia at bedtime to help lower my morning blood sugar readings that usually run in the 150's to 160, Any cons to taking the Januvia without food at bedtime?
Avatar f tn I am curious if you tried cholestramine or welchol pills for detox? I use the welchol because I can't drink liquid meds.
Avatar m tn the first two times, there were a few blockages - 10, 18 and 20% The last time was in December 2013 with a different cardiologist (I moved across the state) and he said I had NO blockages at all. HUH??? My lipid profiles are still horrible even with medications. Pravacol, Tricor and Welchol. His answer for this question was: "Those medications took the blockages away." Of course, I am no doctor but this seems funny to me.
1543146 tn?1293661166 After the GB surgery, the bile flow may be unregulated as it flows from the liver to the duodenum. You can ask your doc if you can try something like a bile-binding resin (possibly Questran or Welchol). If you have gastritis, about the only thing your doc is going to say your stomach will be able to handle will be tylenol. It's not suggested that you take any of the NSAIDs like advil since they can also cause stomach issues. Also consider following a GERD friendly diet.
Avatar n tn You may want to ask the doc if he can try a bile binding resin like questran or somehting like Welchol. There's also the possibility that calcium could help. But it has to be in a specific form and take ant specific times of the day. Google 'lnape and calcium,' and look at the information provided. The contraindication would be if he has a history of kidney stones or parathyroid problems.
Avatar m tn s been undergoing a Welchol treatment for the last 5 to 6 months and has only been able to take 1/2 pack every second day due to the pain but she feels she's on the right path. I, of course, am doubtful, been that route before. Again, thank you for taking so much time for us and for the others you help.
1510649 tn?1301575339 m on a host of different medications because of different medical problems I have, including some cholesterol-lowering medication. But the cholesterol-lowering medication I'm on is not a statin and the doctor's office told me that because the drug I'm on isn't a statin that it wouldn't cause my liver enzyme levels to become elevated.
Avatar n tn I had my gallbladder removed over a year ago. I have the same problem. I have found that a old cure for this type of problem that a Aunt has used for years is simple flour and water. I mix 2 tsps of plain flour in a little warm water stir till no lumps and drink it down in a gulp. Has worked wonders for me no more problem.
Avatar f tn Is he eating a healthy diet? Is he on the right medication? Usually after bypass surgery you would attend rehab, where they hold education classes and run exercise groups. In these classes the patients are made fully aware of heart disease, causes and how to lower your risk factors.
255722 tn?1452546541 Now I am following Burascanos protocol for Barts, which is levaquin and welchol for detox, I am having problems with the welchol so had to cut back. My idea is so many LLMD's try so many different protocols it is just a matter of luck. What works for some may not work for others.
Avatar f tn I had my gb out 3 weeks ago and have the identical same syptoms. Went back to surgeon today who lectured me that I must be not following a low fat plan. I had Grape Nuts with skim milk and a peach hardly high fat breakfast and start getting quezzy after about an hour. Pain snd cramps have caused me to clamp my teeth together causing my jaw joint to ache. Dr. says it will get better. Has your syptoms improved any? If so what did you do or have done?
Avatar n tn I have the same problem, been 3 years now. Imodium helps tremendously as does Welchol. I also have to avoid fried foods. Meals high in protein and fiber are easier on my stomach.
Avatar f tn and he prescribe welchol. This is the first medicine I have tried that I have taken more then two weeks, I started taking the meds in Oct. of 2008 and stop taking it of Feb. 2008.When the doctor told me to increase the doseage from 2 tables twice a day to 2 tablets 3 times a day each 650mg I believe. I started to get sharp pains through out my head and also like a burning sensation and also I feel like a coldness on my right side.
Avatar f tn Have you tried Welchol? Its actually a cholesterol drug but my doctor prescribed it for the side effects, he said it acts as "kitty litter". So it might be worth checking into. Also, for pain, I'm surprised your doctor hasn't mentioned the Fentnyl patch, which will not be affected by your issues because its absorbed through your skin, not your stomach. Good luck!
Avatar n tn Severe diarrhea, especially after meals, is common, but eventually that part will level out. A medication called cholestyramine was prescribed to me for this. It might help. I had to take less than the recommended dose - it can cause constipation. It's a powder you mix with a drink or with food. I liked to mix it with "Instant Breakfast" drink mix - made it much more palatable.
