Welchol for weight loss

Common Questions and Answers about Welchol for weight loss

welchol

401016 tn?1201451802 I would assume they're giving you welchol for diarrhea and the Ami for GI spasms. This is a combination that is given to many (or combinations like it) when someone is experiencing unexplained abdominal pain (perhaps due to spasms) and diarrhea. Ami is used fairly frequently in GI problems, so don't consider it a 'head med.' It is, but in this case it's probably being used to work on the receptors in your GI tract - not your head, although it will do that, too.
Avatar f tn ve been on Welchol for lose to twenty years now, but now (after having thyroid gland removed due to follicular cancer at the end of last year), I'm having the exact same symptoms taking the Welchol tablets as you described (I thought it might have been dyspagia brought on by the Levothyroxine I'm forced to take now). Has anyone ever figured out what might be causing this?
Avatar m tn Will keep her on, cause her numbers are VERY bad and I will probably go back to Welchol and zetia, for what it is worth.
Avatar n tn I did not have any problems until then. I suffered with IBS for years until my Gastro doctor put me on Welchol and it is wonderful I take 3 pills a day and I can get anything I want and I don't have any IBS episodes anymore. I am not afraid to go out anywhere anymore. But I have another problem.
Avatar f tn I have an answer for you. I too had my GB out, and soon after had the same symptoms. I DIAGNOSED IT myself....not much initial help from the gastro MD. It is called "biliary diarrhea". It's fairly common, surprisingly. Apparantly has no reflection on the quality of the surgery (I had the short cut method). However, good news: I've beern able to control it, for which I do give gastro MD credit....The cholesterol drug Welchol. Without it I'd be housebound!
Avatar f tn Why does your doctor prescribe Welchol for increased cholesterol? What about statins-Lipitor, Crestor? They are not advisable for people with ongoing hepatitis, but if you are SVR there should be no problem. They are much better tolerated than Wellchol.
Avatar n tn Ask your doctor about Welchol; it's a cholesterol medicine that binds bile salts. I had mine taken out in February of last year and tried to "tough it out," but after a doctor put me on Welchol, I rarely ever get sick after eating.
Avatar f tn You sound like me. Except I am gaining weight instead of lossing weight, which does not make sence to me. If you read my comments we sound the same. These doctors just keep sending me for more test and they keep telling me what is not wrong with me. I am getting to the point I want to hear bad news just so I have some answers and can start fixing this problem.
Avatar f tn In the UK the doctor can order xrays and other imaging like ultrasound scans, barium meal xrays, and would refer you to a specialist for a colonoscopy and any other tests to check for problems in the digestive system. The doctor should also consider doing blood tests to check your kidney and liver function. A stool test can also be done to look for any bacteria (especially Helicobacter Pylori), parasites and any more serious problems.
Avatar f tn Attempting to update information following latest appointment in hopes the information will be of benefit to others experiencing similar problems pre and post surgery for gall bladder removal. Apparently, I have neither of the conditions mentioned above, as verified following previous testing. I have been placed on Xifiaxin (an anitibiotic specifically for "the gut"), and another medication called Welchol, that I am to adjust according to my diarhhead symptoms.
Avatar n tn 'I've battled high cholesterol for a number of years and can't find the right medicine...Lipitor caused severe muscle weakness, Zetia caused all kind of digestive problems and Pravachol zapped my energy...my count actually went up 30 points while taking WelChol! My doctor is telling me that I have no other choices of medicine to lower my count (total 285, HDL 106 VLDL 21, LDL 188, Triglycerids 106.) My sister is having the same problem so I guess this problem is a family thing.
Avatar n tn I take (2) 500mg of metformin at breakfast and supper. I also take powder welchol at supper. I would like to take my 1000mg of Januvia at bedtime to help lower my morning blood sugar readings that usually run in the 150's to 160, Any cons to taking the Januvia without food at bedtime?
Avatar f tn Easier said than done, I know, but stress is terrible for weight loss. I too have PCOS and understand your struggle. Because of the PCOS you should adopt a diet free of white carbs and lower your intake of sugar. I understand your financial situation, too. I recently had to get an EBT card to pay for food. Since you go to college do you have access to athletic areas like the track? Our local outdoor high school track is open to the public.
Avatar m tn Now many of you thought how controlling your mind can help you in weight losing. Yoga for weight loss, It is a sufficient for everyone.
Avatar f tn Thanks for your comment! I have scrutinized every weight loss quick fix out there as part of my research for The Flex Diet - and I don't believe eating honey is a great solution. Jaquta makes some great points about small changes in diet, activity, and lifestyle. Think about it in the longer term. Take care!
Avatar f tn What I can, most respectfully, share with you is that weight loss is attainable but there is not shot that is going to fix it for us. If there were, everyone would have taken it and obesity would not be so prevalent in our society. Portion control, counting calories/points/carbs, journaling your food intake and implementing moderate exercise works; I am a testament to that. So are the other members of the Weight Loss & Dieting community.
Avatar n tn Theoretically, there are a lot of natural remedies for weight loss, though I have my doubts as to effectiveness. The only true weight loss program is to eat what you digest well (which is beyond the mere cutting of calories), don't eat what you don't, and exercise more. However, there are categories of weight loss aids: Heat: hot herbs increase metabolism some, and also help everything move through thre system more efficiently. Some, like cinnamon, also help with blood sugar.
Avatar f tn I am curious if you tried cholestramine or welchol pills for detox? I use the welchol because I can't drink liquid meds.
Avatar m tn the first two times, there were a few blockages - 10, 18 and 20% The last time was in December 2013 with a different cardiologist (I moved across the state) and he said I had NO blockages at all. HUH??? My lipid profiles are still horrible even with medications. Pravacol, Tricor and Welchol. His answer for this question was: "Those medications took the blockages away." Of course, I am no doctor but this seems funny to me.
Avatar f tn No, I don't say don't try anything, but I also don't presume to be able to tell someone what's best for them because I've seen so many "proven" routines fail over time. I've come to believe that we all just do the best we can and hopefully what we choose won't come around to haunt us a few years down the road. I'm always, therefore, suspicious of the latest fads, but suspicious isn't the same as saying don't try them.
