Welchol for colitis

Common Questions and Answers about Welchol for colitis

welchol

401016 tn?1201451802 I would assume they're giving you welchol for diarrhea and the Ami for GI spasms. This is a combination that is given to many (or combinations like it) when someone is experiencing unexplained abdominal pain (perhaps due to spasms) and diarrhea. Ami is used fairly frequently in GI problems, so don't consider it a 'head med.' It is, but in this case it's probably being used to work on the receptors in your GI tract - not your head, although it will do that, too.
Avatar n tn I did not have any problems until then. I suffered with IBS for years until my Gastro doctor put me on Welchol and it is wonderful I take 3 pills a day and I can get anything I want and I don't have any IBS episodes anymore. I am not afraid to go out anywhere anymore. But I have another problem.
Avatar m tn Thanks for your reply. She is already taking Ciproflaxin, plus Flagyl, Pentasa and Welchol. In assition, She was presecribed the steroid enemas to combat ulcers which fomed between the pouch and her anus; which is so contracted (possibly from the lack of solid stool for 20 years?) that with the constant irritation of liquid stool, cleansing and shrinkage she says it too painful to insert the tip of the enema bottle.
Avatar f tn ve been on Welchol for lose to twenty years now, but now (after having thyroid gland removed due to follicular cancer at the end of last year), I'm having the exact same symptoms taking the Welchol tablets as you described (I thought it might have been dyspagia brought on by the Levothyroxine I'm forced to take now). Has anyone ever figured out what might be causing this?
Avatar f tn I have been sick off and on for the last few years. This last year the flare ups have increased and have been house bound the last 3 months. I can make it to Dr. visits, tests and the occasional outing, but never far from a restroom. I am distended, I vomit up any food that isn't bland and soft, the diarrhea will not stop. I am sore, exhausted and not sure I can wait anymore for the answers.
Avatar m tn Will keep her on, cause her numbers are VERY bad and I will probably go back to Welchol and zetia, for what it is worth.
Avatar f tn I have an answer for you. I too had my GB out, and soon after had the same symptoms. I DIAGNOSED IT myself....not much initial help from the gastro MD. It is called "biliary diarrhea". It's fairly common, surprisingly. Apparantly has no reflection on the quality of the surgery (I had the short cut method). However, good news: I've beern able to control it, for which I do give gastro MD credit....The cholesterol drug Welchol. Without it I'd be housebound!
Avatar f tn Why does your doctor prescribe Welchol for increased cholesterol? What about statins-Lipitor, Crestor? They are not advisable for people with ongoing hepatitis, but if you are SVR there should be no problem. They are much better tolerated than Wellchol.
Avatar n tn Ask your doctor about Welchol; it's a cholesterol medicine that binds bile salts. I had mine taken out in February of last year and tried to "tough it out," but after a doctor put me on Welchol, I rarely ever get sick after eating.
Avatar f tn I'm thinking that he probably had malabsorption, but this is common only for chron's disease
Avatar n tn 'I've battled high cholesterol for a number of years and can't find the right medicine...Lipitor caused severe muscle weakness, Zetia caused all kind of digestive problems and Pravachol zapped my energy...my count actually went up 30 points while taking WelChol! My doctor is telling me that I have no other choices of medicine to lower my count (total 285, HDL 106 VLDL 21, LDL 188, Triglycerids 106.) My sister is having the same problem so I guess this problem is a family thing.
Avatar n tn I take (2) 500mg of metformin at breakfast and supper. I also take powder welchol at supper. I would like to take my 1000mg of Januvia at bedtime to help lower my morning blood sugar readings that usually run in the 150's to 160, Any cons to taking the Januvia without food at bedtime?
Avatar f tn I am curious if you tried cholestramine or welchol pills for detox? I use the welchol because I can't drink liquid meds.
Avatar m tn the first two times, there were a few blockages - 10, 18 and 20% The last time was in December 2013 with a different cardiologist (I moved across the state) and he said I had NO blockages at all. HUH??? My lipid profiles are still horrible even with medications. Pravacol, Tricor and Welchol. His answer for this question was: "Those medications took the blockages away." Of course, I am no doctor but this seems funny to me.
Avatar m tn Hi, I had a colonoscopy last year for some stomach pain I was having after taking Clidamycin and Amoxicillin. I was told I had active proctitis. When searching the web, I saw it was a form of Ulcerative Colitis or Crohns Disease. I asked my doctor about these and he says that I have neither. Is it possible to have proctitis without having IBD. These are the results.
Avatar n tn Thanks for the response. To answer your questions, not that I am aware of. She has had countless blood tests over the past few months, and nothing has shown up. We are looking for the 5th doctor to try and help. We have seen an internist, dermatologist, allergist, and an ent. Thanks for the post.

1139187 tn?1355706647 I have about 600 welchol tablets that my insurance company accidently over-sold me. I cant take this medication any longer. It was prescribed to me because of gallbladder removal. Can I do anything with this medication since I will not be taking it? Its in 3 huge , sealed bottles.
Avatar n tn You may want to ask the doc if he can try a bile binding resin like questran or somehting like Welchol. There's also the possibility that calcium could help. But it has to be in a specific form and take ant specific times of the day. Google 'lnape and calcium,' and look at the information provided. The contraindication would be if he has a history of kidney stones or parathyroid problems.
Avatar n tn my husband had c-diff colitis on and off for the past 3 months, he was given vancomycin for 14 days then after 2 weeks it flare up again. He was given metronidazole for 7 days, but after 2 weeks the diarrhea starts again, what is the treatment for this? Is taken so much antibiotics good for him, it seems it kills the good bacteria. What can you tell me about this.
Avatar f tn Well I have Crohns disease which is inflammation of the stomach/colon lining. My Crohns disease actually does a lot better during prehnancy. I nvr had a flare up during pregnancy and do not take meds during pregnancy for it. After my 2nd baby, I no longer had flare ups and i do not take medicine anymore period. I had a colonoscopy and it showed no signs of the disease. I truly believe pregnancy can do positive things for certain problems. Im now pregnant with my 3rd and still no flare ups.
Avatar n tn Most of what I find is the symtems for colitis has much to do with diarrhea, but our son get severly constipated, is this normal with colitis?
Avatar n tn In 2003, I was in the hospital for a stomach infection. A month later I joined the military and a two weeks into my training I felt ill. I was discharged with colitis. Now this Feb. of 2009 I tried to reenlists, but I need a medical waiver. I have done the research for symptoms in colitis and I don't fall into this category. For example loss of weight, fatigue, bleeding in the stool, reflux, etc.
Avatar f tn I am a sufferer of Ulcerative Colitis and your symptoms sound exactly the same as what mine were before I was diagnosed 5 years ago at the age of 15. there are also many other symptoms to look out for but not everyone suffers from them all! Look out for inflammation of the skin, eyes and joints. Iron deficient anaemia, so eat lots of red meat! Try not to take too many painkillers though as they can sometimes make other symptoms worse!
Avatar m tn ps. i am almost back down to my ideal weight. 150 lbs.
Avatar m tn Hi, I have chronic colitis, but my bowel is perfect because I did a colonoscopy in january and I know about colitis because of the biopsy. I have diarrhea almost 1 year, and never stop. I get worst now, because I have so much pain and I can not sleep, my gut contracts all the time... I'm feel weak and also have nausea. I saw blood only tree times. I feel shortness of breath and fainting also. I already take a lot of remedy and it didn't work.
